Kacey Musgraves, the esteemed Grammy-winning country singer, is celebrating her fifth studio album Deeper Wells with a tour by the same name, which commenced its journey on April 28 in Dublin, Ireland.
Hailing from the heartland of Texas and launching her career in Nashville in 2013, Musgraves made an indelible mark with her major-label debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, which garnered a Grammy Award for Best Country Album. What distinguishes Musgraves within the world of country music is her whimsical playfulness and tongue-in-cheek flamboyance.
When Musgraves burst onto the scene with her album Same Trailer, Different Park, she married a country tone with progressive lyrics, unafraid to delve into topics such as recreational drug use and casual encounters.
As Musgraves embarks on her Deeper Wells World Tour, she continues to redefine the boundaries of country music as an unapologetic trailblazer.

In a letter announcing her third album, Don’t Forget Me, singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers says she got inspired for her latest project by creating a “younger Thelma & Louise,” using that storytelling vessel to navigate difficult personal truths of her own. Such self-exploring wanderlust has been a common theme for Rogers, an artist who proclaimed “I found myself when I was going everywhere” on her first LP. This time out, she’s taking a metaphorical road trip through her own past as a means of escaping her disconcerting present.

Few country stars have been embraced by the Grammys like Kacey Musgraves has. The singer-songwriter rose to prominence with her mainstream debut, “Same Trailer Different Park,” which became one of the most acclaimed albums of 2013, earning an 89 score on Metacritic and establishing Musgraves as one to watch in the industry. She received four Grammy nominations that year and won Best Country Album in a major upset against Taylor Swift’s commercial blockbuster “Red.” Musgraves followed that with another Grammy-nominated record, “Pageant Material,” but her third try was the charm: “Golden Hour” won Album of the Year and swept its three other nominations in the country field. Then came the pop-leaning “Star-Crossed,” which nevertheless received two country nominations. This year Musgraves is back with “Deeper Well,” which many are considering a return to form and a folk-country masterpiece. She is for sure getting her usual country nominations. But can she crossover to the general field again?...

Is Kacey Musgraves‘s new album, “Deeper Well,” a return to form? Her “Golden Hour,” which reveled in wedded bliss, was critically hailed and won the Grammy for Album of the Year. But then her follow-up “Star-Crossed,” which chronicled her divorce, received somewhat less enthusiastic notices and only scored two noms. Now three years later comes her latest studio release, which dropped on March 15. What do music journalists think of this one?
“Deeper Well’s” reviews are currently more in line with “Star-Crossed” than “Golden Hour,” though “Golden Hour” would be a tough bar for any artist to clear. As of this writing “Well” has an impressive score of 79 on MetaCritic based on 11 reviews counted: nine of them positive, two somewhat mixed and none outright negative.
Roisin O’Connor (The Independent UK) is the most effusive, calling “Deeper Well” a “revelation” compared to “the somewhat limp results” of “Star-Crossed.” The album...

“The Voice” blind auditions for season 25 concluded on Tuesday night with each of the four coaches completing their teams by claiming their 10th initial artist of the season. Returning for his second season, Chance the Rapper became the newest “four-chair king” with four artists joining him in those competitive auditions. The 10 artists representing his team will next take stage for The Battles beginning March 18, but first we want to know who is your favorite artist on Team Chance? Vote in the poll below.
The most thrilling of Chance’s four-chair turn wins was Serenity Arce singing “This City,” and chose his team after John Legend “wasted” his one block to stop her from choosing Dan + Shay. He also successfully used his own block against Reba McEntire in another four-chair decision, winning over Dani Stacy with “I Will Survive.” Maddi Jane was another four-chair win with “Escapism” and then Val T.

On her sixth studio album, Deeper Well, Kacey Musgraves digs into both her psyche and the sounds of folk music, making for an affecting and mellow set of songs. The album kicks off with the crystalline, fingerpicked intro of “Cardinal,” an almost startling introduction given the pop-heavy sound of Musgraves’s last album, Star-Crossed, before giving way to a more contemporary acoustic-guitar passage as the singer muses about lost loved ones. It’s an intimate and effective tone-setter for the rest of the album, as many of the songs here revolve around memory and loss.
The title track establishes the thesis of Deeper Well: “I’m saying goodbye to the people/That I feel are real good at wasting my time/No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe/You go your way and I’ll go mine.” The gentle guitars and unobtrusive drumming create a soundscape that echoes the...

A barefoot Kacey Musgraves opened her third appearance as Saturday Night Live musical guest by singing the mellow title track of Deeper Well, her new album that comes out March 15.
The 14-track LP, recorded at New York’s storied Electric Lady Studios, is “a collection songs I hold very dear to my heart,” Musgraves wrote in an Instagram post last month announcing her latest work.
The multiple Grammy winner later returned to the stage, this time with a classical guitar, to perform “Too Good to be True,” which follows “Deeper Well” on the track listing.

Track by Track is a recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through every song on their latest release. Today, Sheer Mag take us into their new record, Playing Favorites. Sheer Mag have returned with their first album in five years, Playing Favorites. In addition to it being their first release since signing with Third Man Records last year, it’s a return to their classic, heavily-inspired rock sound while forging impressive new musical ground throughout.

The cock rock and 1970s power-pop touchstones that Sheer Mag’s members draw upon in their music are barely any hipper than Benny Goodman. Unlike the glossy revivalism of Greta Van Fleet, though, the Philly band recontextualizes decades-old influences by filtering its hooky songwriting through a layer of sonic grime—not to mention by putting Tina Halladay, an unconventional, throat-shredding frontwoman, on the mic.
Sheer Mag’s third studio album, Playing Favorites, is their first not to be self-released, but they haven’t abandoned their DIY aesthetic. The album sounds as raw as their early EPs, while lead guitarist Kyle Seely’s riffage hasn’t lost any of its bite. The sneering “Eat It and Beat It,” despite its spoofy title, makes an instant claim as one of the group’s most satisfying rockers to date.

The 2024 Grammys aired on February 4, and as usual, I have some thoughts. For passionate awards pundits, the Grammys are often best enjoyed afterwards, when you can analyze the results properly and theorize about what they might be telling us about the voting process, the Recording Academy and the music industry as a whole. Here are my five main takeaways.

Pop voters have refined taste
Listen, I don’t wanna dunk on any artist or song, but Taylor Swift’s remix of “Karma” featuring Ice Spice is just not that good, with some simply feeling like the added verse was out of place. Regardless, the track was predicted to win the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, mostly due to the fact that the original version topped pop radio and all the other nominees were deep cuts and/or album tracks.

Kacey Musgraves is either teasing a new album or the opening of a zoo. During the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, the country singer-songwriter debuted a 30-second video that showed her walking through a flock of ducks, petting horses, and sitting with a peregrine falcon perched on her shoulder.

Kacey Musgraves has released a studio version of the oft-covered Bob Marley and The Wailers classic “Three Little Birds.” Her rendition is for Reinaldo Marcus Green’s upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love.
Musgraves wisely didn’t try to replicate Marley’s roots reggae instrumentation here. Instead, she used his melodies and evergreen lyrics over a gentle acoustic guitar strum, some minimal drums, and a pedal steel. It’s all blanketed in heavy reverb, staying authentic to the comforting quality of the original song while making it her own.
“Three Little Birds” is just one of six Marley covers on an eponymous EP accompanying One Love. That’ll also feature Leon Bridges, Daniel Caesar, Bloody Civilian, Jessie Reyez, Wizkid, and Bob’s grandson Skip Marley. Stream Musgraves’ contribution and then see the full EP tracklist below.

Like most singers new in town, Brittney Spencer spent the bulk of her first decade in Nashville paying dues. She busked to passersby, sang backup for Carrie Underwood, and carved out a space for provocative songwriting in the city’s Christian worship-music community. Then, in 2020, in the wake of country music’s reckoning with its long history of racial exclusion, Spencer uploaded a viral acoustic cover of the Highwomen’s “Crowded Table.” Since then, she’s opened for Willie Nelson and Megan Thee Stallion, sang at the CMAs, and even...

Taylor Swift is heading into the 2023 Video Music Awards poised to break her own record. With the nomination of “Anti-Hero” for Video of the Year, Swift may be the first artist to ever win the honor four times, beating the record she set just last year.
To date, Swift is the only artist to win MTV’s Video of the Year on three separate occasions. In 2022, she took home the honor for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).” In 2015, she won for “Bad Blood (featuring Kendrick Lamar),” and in 2019 she won for “You Need to Calm Down.”
Video of the Year is far from the only nomination Swift received. The singer and songwriter was nominated in eight categories altogether, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing.

Kacey Musgraves is one of country music’s rising superstars. Her quirky style and haunting voice have ensured her the designation of a pop-culture icon, while her tendency to write hit songs has kept her name in the headlines, year after year. While Musgraves understands that she’s a topic of extreme interest amongst fans, she prefers to keep her personal life to herself, only rarely opening up about her romances. However, Musgraves has no problem raving about how much she loves her boyfriend and has dished several times about the unique way they met, and why she appreciates the fact that he doesn’t follow popular music.

Kacey Musgraves is the country artist behind ‘Somebody to Love,” saying that the creative process “brought tears to [her] eyes.” Here’s what we learned about Pageant Material’s original track.

She’s just a little kid looking for love. “Somebody to Love” was released by Musgraves on her 2015 album Pageant Material.
This song connects the narrator to others searching for love. The singer notes that everyone is “hopeless” — “We’re all flawed, and we’re all perfect.” More than anything, we’re all looking for somebody to love.
“We’re all good, but we ain’t angels,” Musgraves sings in the chorus. “We all sin, but we ain’t devils / We’re all pots and we’re all kettles / But we can’t see...

In the new doc’s first scene, she talks about the mix of relief and anxiety she feels about the LP, saying, “A lot of people are about to hear things that were very personal ruminations at one point. Yeah, it’s just a mindfuck.

Kacey Musgraves performed songs off her new album Star-Crossed on the 47th season premiere of Saturday Night Live.
Musgraves played a stripped-down version of “Justified” as her first number, seated on a stool and strumming a guitar that obscured any clothes she may have been wearing — creating the illusion that she was naked, a subtle homage to a scene in Forrest Gump. “If I need just a little/More time to deal with the fact/That you should have treated me right,” she sang, her legs crossed in cowboy boots.

The race is on for the Grammys’ best new artist with Lizzo and Billie Eilish positioned as frontrunners in an exceptionally exciting 2020 category. Survey the odds for all eight of the year’s contenders below.

Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada have been a duo only since 2017, but they sound as if they’ve been making music together for decades. Their debut album, “Black Moon Rising,” is the sort of accomplished bluesy, soulful gem that lesser acts spend years working up to and still rarely deliver. That might have a lot to do with the influence of Quesada, who has a bit of Grammy history as a member of Grupo Fantasma, a band that won a Grammy for its 2010 album “El Existential.” Duos don’t tend to do particularly well in the new artist category, with the Carpenters, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and, yes, Milli Vanilli being the only twosomes...
