This episode branched the show out.

Now from what I see it is the lowest rated episode, but by no means a bad episode. It gave the show some range, and after all Simone is a character in the show and needed her story told. It definitely gave insight into just how different culture was in different parts of the country in the 70s, especially the LGBTQ community. Simone was able to be much more open sexually in New York and the disco scene there. She still had to be careful, but it was a better situation than in LA at the time.

So then she received a telegram from Daisy that is very vague which makes it sound like Daisy is in some big trouble. She uproots her and her GF Bernie who is Simone's GF and DJ/business partner. The episode shows just how out of control and selfish Daisy is . Without getting into major spoilers the band gets back together but Daisy and Billy have major tension still. It shows Daisys downward spiral with drugs and men. Can the Six keep this crazy train going ?? Or will it ultimately fall off the tracks like so many tragic stories of great bands with major problems?? Just watch and see !!!

Loved this episode!

I wasn't sure where this episode was going but it really gets into the characters' pasts and motives. A bit of trivia about the Greek island of Hydra ... it's the same island where Leonard Cohen bought a house in 1960 for $1500 ! He inherited the money from his grandmother and used to retreat there to write. It was his happy place and he returned often over the years. Not sure if this was written into the story for that connection, but I definitely would like to visit it one day now.

We saw a very different and happier side of Daisy. Simone shines as well in this episode and of course the whole LGBTQ scene is explored.

Not that bad but Hydra deserved better

Warning: Spoilers
Well, as a person with Greek origins hearing Italian background music over Greek landscapes... not nice! The creators should have done their research and figure out how diverse Europe really is, even alongside the Mediteranean.

Otherwise, good plot but insufficiently developed. Would have loved to see more club culture in Simone' s evolution, some heart pumping dance and music would have been juuuust awesome.

What I really liked is how Daisy truthfully admits to her rather stranger husband the shadowy love story with Billy. Big up for putting into words what happens between artists sometimes.

In defense of this episode

This might be my favorite episode of the series so far. The change in scenery with NYC and Greece was great and I loved the shift in focus to Simone breaking into the disco scene and her complicated relationship with Bernie. This episode really showed how deeply flawed Daisy is as a person. Her decision to telegram Simone with a vague and concerning plea for help led to Simone and Bernie uprooting their lives and halting the momentum of their success. The episode did a great job introducing Nicky as a sleezeball with the way he treats Simone and how quick he is to minimize Daisy's career. The confrontation between Daisy and Simone over Daisy throwing away a career that others have to work their asses off for further highlighted Daisy's unhinged and reckless behavior. Best moment of the episode for me was when Simone put Daisy in her place by calling her out for being a selfish bitch. Excellent acting from Nabiyah Be and Riley Keough and a great chance to dive deeper into these characters.

That surprise

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was pretty good, about as good as some of the other episodes. I don't get the hate. At all.

Was this on the book? Some of it was, some of it wasn't. Things still begin and end where they did in the book though, so why the complaining?

No but this was actually pretty well written and really well acted. I for one am glad Simone got much more screen time in this show than book time she may have gotten in the novel. And what's so wrong with her being gay? As I recall, the book said she had a daughter. I don't recall Reid ever clarifying WHO was the other parent!

Holy crap, Nabiyah Be! What an exceptional performance she has put on in this show and especially this episode. I LOVED Simone and Bernie in this for one.

I especially loved seeing the underground scene in New York. Seems like the safest, most sincere place to be in the entire show.

And it does further the plot and Daisy's eventual trip back to the states. Having seen the next episode, I can say for certain this was necessary and not at all a waste of time. People need to lighten up a bit. There's nothing wrong with making changes from the novel or adding more to the original story, especially if it's this well made.

Between the Glitz of New York Nightclubs and the Serenity of a Greek Village
badeclerck1 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 7 of Daisy Jones and the Six takes us from the glamorous world of New York nightclubs to a picturesque village in Greece, revealing a new dimension to the relationship between Daisy and Simone. Initially, it appears to be a cry for help from Daisy, but as the episode unfolds, we discover that Daisy has found contentment with her future husband, Nicky.

Simone, who embarks on this journey with her partner Bernie, is deeply moved. She questions Daisy's sincerity, knowing that Daisy isn't truly happy away from her audience and suspects that she's in Greece out of fear of facing Billy. Simone, once again, proves to be right.

It's when Simone decides to depart that Daisy realizes just how accurate Simone's judgment was. She then makes the choice to board a plane back to Los Angeles, with Nicky by her side. This episode stands out for its gentleness and tranquility but remains just as captivating as the previous ones.

Rediscovering Simone and Daisy from a different, more serene perspective is truly delightful. This episode serves as a reminder that, even amidst turmoil and uncertainty, it's possible to find a new balance in life. Daisy Jones and the Six continues to surprise and move us, and this episode is a shining example of that.

Very disappointing.
socialdancer-2240718 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I realise that adapting a book for film means compressing the story, and I can live with that. However this episode bore no relation to the book at all. Daisy went to Thailand, not Greece, and Nicky was Italian and not some kind of ridiculous Irish grandee, something that doesn't even exist in Ireland. The whole storyline bore little relation to how it went in the book and I can't understand why the filmmakers did that. I've been really enjoying the series but was very disappointed with this episode. I hope the rest of it gets back on track with some resemblance to the book. The music is good!

Best Directed Episode
MarkSchultzCAS4 March 2024
I'm here to discover who directed this episode. It was clear to me watching it that it was someone with a superior aesthetic, and being a remote shoot, it only made sense it would be a different person. I am glad to learn the name of Will Graham. I am required to add more characters to this review, so I will ramble on about what I liked. The lenses appeared to be different choices, and the angles bringing us into scenes were smart. The party scene is an excellent example. The DP got it all perfect, too. Different skin tones were all beautifully rendered in the strong sunlight. It was nice to be away from the sometimes-taxing songs the band plays for a spell. I am finding the lyrics of the show's original band songs to be the consistent low-water mark of this series. I mean, "I put the man in the moon... I put the dial in the tone." Ouch, ouch, ouch!

Disappointing
emmabmurphy14 November 2023
In the book this was a low part of her life but the series got it all wrong. The fact that Simone traveled all the way to Thailand in the book and Daisy had left without even saying was such a strong statement about her mental state. The series got this very wrong. Not to talk about the Irish guy instead of the Italian, the lack of enabling from Nicky's side, and the unnecessary presence of Simone and her girlfriend.

Yes, there was the seed being planted for emotional abuse but this really just didn't hit the mark.

I know sometimes a series needs so stretch out the storyline but I thing this could have went into a much better direction.

Shoehorned story that wasn't in book
hywvkf26 June 2023
Why does Hollywood feel the need to force their beliefs on everyone when it wasn't part of the original story. This is about a minor character in the story that a certain community felt they needed to be acknowledged more.

When will they learn that forcing things on people is not what people want to see nor will that accomplish what they are trying to achieve.

It's gotten to the point where it is only a matter of time before an episode is shoehorned into a story which has nothing to do with the source material, just to make a statement that no one wants to hear. There is a reason this is the lowest rated episode in the series.
