You'll absolutely disappointed if you expect for fast-paced romance & melodrama like others romance GDH film, but if you expect slow build-up, great character development, realistic acting, and bunch of emotional swings, this is for you.

Jean decides to adopt the minimalist style and throw away almost everything she has. Among useless objects, she finds a camera that reminds her of the past.
A nice Thai film, winner of 2 trophies at secondary film festivals in Asia, which turned out to be a good surprise. The pace is slow, there's no over the top dramatic moments, even when we find out about shocking revelations for the storyline.
I felt that the narrative was like a river, with a destination (flowing into the ocean), that runs through several key points, some where the current can be more dangerous and put the characters at risk and others where calm and tranquility reigns.
It's a film about leaving the past behind, in a peaceful way. Memories are good, but we cannot hold on to them if we want to achieve fullness in life.
Chutimon puts body and soul to the character and is undoubtedly the starting engine that brings life this melodrama.

The purpose of this movie is not for viewers to follow, but it's for viewers to relate to themselves and get emotional with the protagonist. Everyone has pasts and most of us store them in the very back of our minds. The film try to put the viewer in the shoe of the protagonist, in a very subtle way. If you can not follow the protagonist's emotional aspects then you will not like this film, because there is no point in watching. It's like buying a ticket to a roller coaster ride, only to find out it's a ticket to watch someone else riding the roller coaster and you have to imagine how fun it is or recollect how you feel the last time you actually rode the same roller coaster ride...

Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit's 'Happy Old Year' sparks joy by embracing the melancholy of its story. Thamrongrattanarit uses the metaphor of Marie Kondo's KonMari method as an analogy of a concise psychological portrait where self-discovery, the confrontation of the past, as well as letting go of the burden that tormenting memories become necessary tasks to start over from scratch. A simple yet important message about the need to start afresh, but also to remember the people and memories along the way. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying excels with her engaging and captivating performance.

Having new apartment by get rid of all the stuff in the past. It sounds damn easy but it occurs to the lady who think also but actually not. Stuff is dead but memory it recalls is priceless. When the daughter decide to throw his dad piano, her mum breakdown. It just makes me feel why my parents won't throw stuff for the sake of their reasons. It's a light movie but good one for some thinking too.

But this movie tell you, all thing note important, how to minimize your life storage box - let it go. Let it go need face yourself. Can't hold it, throw it!

Wow. I think I've just seen one of my most favorite films. I'm utterly speechless right now but also trying really hard to write to preserve this moment. Any minute now, I feel like I'd burst into pieces because of how vulnerable it made me. 😶😶😶
This is pure genius mygad! Happy Old Year spoke to me in volumes and saw through my soul. It's like looking through the mirror for the first time in a long while and you see all these fragments of yourself that you never cared to notice before. I didn't even know I was broken until tonight. But it's liberating at the same time just to realize how much I can still be. I don't have anything new to say about all the technical aspects because I'm sure it's all been mentioned but I just want to echo forever that EVERYTHING worked for me. I liked the stillness and depth of each scene. I'm crazy for the Thai vibrancy that I just witnessed. And I'm FOR SURE KEEPING MY EYES ON NAWAPOL!!!

First of all, I'm a fan of Freelance: Ham puay... Ham phak... Ham rak mor (2015). About this movie, I don't see any objectives of making this movie that long by no story telling. It lacks reasons to be that silent, just keep recording people faces or something like that. Actors and actresses did a great performance as expected but the storyline and screenplay were too bad for them to keep the whole movie not boring. In Thai, the movie is named How to throw away (like throw the garbage), and it probably means throw the movie away itself.

Jean seeks to create a minimalistic home studio but encounters challenges along the way to clean the whole house. Seeking approval from her mother is one of the most difficult and both are seen selfish. Aim and Jean are also being selfish. At the end, felt like the story reminds us how in life eventhough we might share same experiences but the way that a person feel and react depend on each person. Frustration can add up for not people understanding you but that's life and its real. Sometimes you have no choice but to let it go and move on for your own sake.

This movie is an attempt to explore human emotions without displaying meaning making it very pretentious.
Cinematography The cinematography is a little above average, I've seen film like Marriage Story that uses similar aesthetic to display nostalgia.
Story The story carry it self in a way that tries to make the audience think however it fail to do so by not giving things conclusion. It's like writing a sentence without putting a period. Sometime the film will create a meaningless silent that tries to give a message but it comes out very boring and pretentious, this can be said to the story and the script too. The ending did not had any conclusion or morale of the story.
Characters Actors were great you can really tell that they are good an showing emotions but even they could not save the film from it's bad screenplay and writing.
Before I saw the film I was really excited to see this movie after listening to the artist that collaborated with the movie "The Toys" however it turns out that the song that he made for the movie was not in the movie nor the credit meaning that it was just an advertisement to drag people to see this movie.

The whole movie is about nothing. Pointless moving on from the old things, old relationship, old friends, as if they did not grow up, as if the wanted the sun to stay in the same place everyday.
Thus movie is for people who could not grow up and want to blame others for every possible outcome in their life.
Imagine if people started to give back all the things you received since child hood, how annoying would that be ? The movie does not deal with any of that nuance but creates a fake narrative of emotional attachment which does not exist.
People who can watch should be given award of patience. Only lunatics with emotional issue would rate this movie higher rating.
This movie is not unique though, most Thai movies are very slow and boring, as if they failed to hire a talented script writer.

Normally I like films like this. A serious drama about relationships, memory, and the pieces left behind. It's a great premise and you can tell everyone is committed to the project, with rich cinematography and convincing performances all around.
But even a solid foundation can be undone by the little things. There's probably 45 minutes of material here uncomfortably stretched to almost two hours. It takes a while for things to get started and when it does, it feels like you're watching at 75% speed. And not just that but the camera mercilessly lingers on every insignificant detail like it's just so important, like they lost their editor and could not find a replacement. The director also likes to milk every gesture, vacant stare, and ugly-cry for as long as possible. There is no significant contrast between important moments and unimportant moments, it's all equally precious and saturated to the utmost sentimentality.
I fell asleep on my first try then tried later only to fall asleep again only to startle awake to loud mother-daughter screech matches. I had to keep going back and checking how much was more there was to it. Even when it feels like its nearing a possible conclusion there was still like 30 minutes to go. But one preliminary tearful goodbye deserves a follow-up tearful goodbye and so on...
