Saw at SAFILM!
sammyk-2978916 August 2022
Saw this film at the San Antonio Film Festival and was surprised at this tense gem of a thriller. Set in the NYC comedy I thought it would be a "coming of age" story about the lead character Brett but it quickly devolved into a nightmarish take of ambition.

The director led a great Q&A session afterwards and really let us inside the process of the main character's psyche. Check it out wherever it's streaming!

Whoa! Like a film that grabs you by the shirt and doesn't let go til the credits! Had me early in, htrreat performances, cringe moments, and awkward comedy!

comedy isn't always funny

What a fun indie psychological thriller. Really cool character study of an untalented "comedian" and how they deal with their dreams being unachieved. Was thinking about it still a few days later.

Caught this film at this the Austin Revolution Film Fest and it was amazing to see it with an audience..and by "amazing" I mean cringe (In the best way). Brett is a really fascinating character and the events that lead to the final third are really interesting to behold! My whole row was tense halfway through b/c we had no idea hat was going to happen next! Check out this indie gem!

Reminds me of Taxi Driver

A NYC movie set on the streets, in the summer, a man on the verge of sanity...if you like films like Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, Joker, etc this is a movie proudly in that film lineage!

Interesting film about improv, comedy, and mental illness. Great characters, cool locations, and good performances. Check it out if you like a slow-burn thriller.

Loved the Alt-Right Shark, haha.

what a ride!

I caught this movie on TUBI, and wasn't quite sure to expect from this indie thriller. But, wow...what a thrill ride!

The story follows Brett Sugarman, a ambitious comedian who isn't all that funny..or socially adept at being normal! Brett's ambition can only take him so far, and when that limit is stretched Brett finds his mental state in fast decline!

I loved the story, the characters all felt very real, and the behind the scenes look at a comedian's struggles was really interesting to see. This is a movie that doesn't allow you to get comfortable, once the story starts you're taken on a journey. I highly recommend this film if you like movies like "Joker" or "Taxi Driver".
