This movie was fine but it was just way too predictable. Like, absolutely no surprises involved. Kinda boring.

Too Obvious!

typical lifetime movie

This is not one of better lifetime movies, but typical one. I expected granny will be somewhat more extreme or more funny, but not the worst actor either. Gives us insight into how dangerous women, especially older ones can be. Reminds me of personal experiences with older women, especially in family and closer relationships, how can they do black magic, poison somebody, or damage somebody in other way due to more knowledge and experience. Actors are still amateur ones, but not the worst.

Warning: Spoilers
No suspense at all. You just keep laughing at Wendy Malick's character being so obsessed over these kids who weren't even her grandchildren. Her son wasn't even married to the children's mother and she's already calling herself their grandmother, yet the red flags don't go up with the clueless mother. (she does gets a clue halfway in the film though, but by then it's too late). Any sane person would've kept that nutty psycho away from their children much sooner.
And the fact that she tries to turn the kids against their mother and actually kills their father is so absurd. Why does she want someone else's kids so badly as to kill one of their parents?! Just so she can be a granny?! It's too laughable and over the top absurd to be scary or suspenseful. Watch it for the camp because you'll laugh a lot with this one.

Horrible waste of time

I avoid Lifetime and Hallmark. Made an exception because this includes comedienne extraordinaire, Wendy Malick, in a "dramatic" role. Her acting was OK, but do not waste your time with this mess. Would like to give it a 0.

Wendy Malick in the starring role as Barbara, the psycho granny, whose son, Ethan, is dating divorcee, Kendall who has 2 children, Barbara desperately wants to be a grandma and she becomes a pest intruding on their lives always wanting to be around kendall's kids which really annoys her ex who shares joint custody of them. Granny Barbara wants all their attention and make sure she gets it and woe to anyone who tries and stops her! Good Lifetime movie with a decent script and well-acted. Definitely recommend.

Grandma Dearest is one of those Lifetime popcorn movies where you just settle back, relax and enjoy. The acting isn't too bad and the story, while not over challenging, is interesting enough to keep you watching. The movie was well shot and the child actors were not annoying and some can be, especially in films like this.
Not a classic, but just a bit of light thriller entertainment.

Wendie Malick deserves an Emmy nomination

Wendie Malick does a terrific job in "Deranged Granny". Her deadpan evil is great to watch. She could have easily gone over the top in this movie but she doesn't. She plays the character perfectly. Her supporting cast is also very good with standout work by David Baez and the dreamy Amanda Righetti. The strong performances is what makes "Deranged Granny" one of the best Lifetime movies of the year.
