Hollywood has seen success with reviving popular films and TV shows rather than inventing new ideas. One 1960s TV Western ripe for a reboot, The Big Valley, was set to be remade as a feature-length film. Some parts had already been cast, including A-list actors. However, the director landed in hot water over previous indiscretions, and the movie never began shooting. Here’s what happened to the failed Big Valley reboot.

A theatrical reboot of The Big Valley was proposed in 2010. Susan Sarandon was first considered for the lead role. Jessica Lange was also considered for the part. Other actors slated for the cast were Ryan Phillippe, Richard Dreyfuss, and Bruce Dern. It was to be remade as an indie feature by filmmakers Daniel Adams and Kate Edelman Johnson, MeTV reported.

One of my favorite composers who has made a musical splash on the film score scene is Pinar Toprak. Being a collector of scores, whether it be TV of film, I’m a huge fan of hers and she has quickly become an active and reinvigorating composer in Hollywood. Toprak wrote the fantastic scores for DC’s Stargirl on The CW, and Sy-fy’s Superman prequel series Krypton.
Today, Variety reported: “on Sunday she (Toprak) will be onstage at the Dolby conducting the Oscar orchestra for Billie Eilish’s performance of “No Time to Die.” Details about Sunday are otherwise under wraps. It’s said to be a new arrangement of the Oscar-nominated James Bond theme, and Eilish’s co-writer and sibling Finneas is expected to be onstage too. Toprak couldn’t comment.“

One of the best DC Comics TV shows has just finished its super and terrific first season. Fans of DC Universe’s “Stargirl” were treated to an exciting Season One Finale filled with a Justice League vs the Injustice Society battle, as well as a little cliffhanger for Season 2.
The surprises in season finale gave us so many cool twists and turns, and of course, deep comic book Easter eggs. Plus we got to meet the Seven Soldiers of Victory, a team of Golden Age lawmen, along with team member, “Shining Knight”. And even though the Seven Soldiers never got the name recognition the Justice Society had, they still hold their own special place in the history of the DC Universe.

The Ledge producer Michael Mailer has teamed with Hank Blumenthal to produce an inspired-by-true-events period drama, The Walk, with Daniel Adams attached to direct from a script he co-wrote with George Powell. The screenplay was originated by Powell, a former drug dealer whom Adams discovered while he was incarcerated. Upon his release, Powell turned to screenwriting and The Walk will mark his first produced script.
The story centers on Boston Irish cop Bill Coughlin as he is faced with his own suppressed racist attitude and fierce social pressure after being assigned to protect black high school students as they are bused into all-white South Boston High during the court-ordered forced integration of the Boston School System in 1974, which resulted in brutal violence and city-wide protests.

"She's not interested in money." Strand Releasing has debuted an official trailer for a film titled An L.A. Minute, from writer/director Daniel Adams. More importantly, the film stars the very talented up-and-coming actress Kiersey Clemons, who also appears in Hearts Beat Loud - which is now playing in theaters (go see it!). In this film, Clemons plays "an avant-garde performance artist" who befriends a best-selling author who wants to write more personal books rather than the stuff that got him famous. Gabriel Byrne (seen in Hereditary) also co-stars in this film about celebrity and fame and how it works and how fake it all is. The cast includes Bob Balaban, Katherine Kendall, Ed Marinaro, Ned Bellamy, Brianna Baker, Jake Adams, and Ash Adams. Doesn't look that great. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Daniel Adams' An L.A. Minute, direct from YouTube: An L.A. Minute is a satirical look at fame,...

This story first appeared in the March 7 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Near the end of 2009, Daniel Adams was desperate to finish his latest movie. But the filmmaker behind the period romance The Lightkeepers, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner, was running out of money well before shooting ended. Instead of shutting down production, Adams submitted fraudulent documents to score at least $4.7 million from inflated claims for Massachusetts tax credits on Lightkeepers and another film. He was caught, pleaded guilty to 10 counts related to embezzlement and, in 2012, became the first Hollywood figure to

We first told you back in July about Syfy giving the green light to the pilot Dominion, based on characters in the 2010 film Legion. Back then we had little to go on besides a sketchy paragraph about it being set 25 years in the future after an epic war between an army of angels and humankind.
Now we have more, including not only the casting of three major characters (at least two of whom are likely familiar to you) but a lot more in the way of plot and character detail.
Although I’m completely enthusiastic and encouraging about this pilot, the fact that one of the actors, Christopher Egan, was also cast in the pilot Gothica as Dorian Gray proves that casting a pilot by no means guarantees its pickup to series.
You have been warned; get excited about this, but don’t fall in love just yet:

Writer/director Daniel Adams has been sentenced to two to three years in prison after inflating his expenses while applying for film tax credits in his native Massachusetts.
The 51 year old was accused of exaggerating expenditures during the filming of both Blythe Danner's The Lightkeepers and David Carradine's The Golden Boys in Cape Cod, resulting in nearly $4.7 million (£2.9 million) in tax credit overpayments.
Last month, he pleaded guilty to several charges, including larceny and making a false claim, and on Thursday Adams was convicted of fraud and handed the jail sentence.
Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Carol Ball also placed Adams on 10 years' probation and ordered the filmmaker to pay $4.4 million (£2.8 million) in restitution.

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"Modern Times"

Yes, we're excited to see "Iron Man 2," "Inception" and God help us, "Predators." But what we're really looking forward to spending a few hours in the company of an undertaking Bill Murray ("Get Low"), an Italian-speaking Tilda Swinton ("I Am Love") and a toga-wearing Rachel Weisz ("Agora") in the comfort of air-conditioned theater over the next three months. (Either that or we'll be enjoying them from the comfort of home online, on demand or on DVD.)

Earlier this week, Richard Dreyfuss and Bruce Dern spoke to journalists at a press day in Los Angeles about their new film The Lightkeepers, which was helmed by writer-director Daniel Adams. During his discussion of Adams approach, Dern offered a few reflections about his work with directors Hal Ashby and Alfred Hitchcock, both of whom he collaborated with in the 1970s. Comparing their imagination to Adams, Dern remembered his experiences on the films Coming Home and Family Plot, and offered the following anecdotes.
Describing the way in which Adams evoked his illustrious predecessors on The Lightkeepers, Dern said, "It's definitely a return toward Hal Ashby, with an emphasis on a hundred years earlier. I mean, I would have loved to see Hal tackle 1905 - I don't care where it is. Because he just had a magical look at things; he looked at things totally differently." Switching gears to offer memories...

HollywoodNews.com: For most entertainment journalists, there are only a handful of times when an actor or filmmaker is unguarded enough or unafraid to tell the truth about their experiences in Hollywood. Mind you, it’s understandable that these folks would not want to bad-mouth projects or jeopardize future plans, but as a result, things can occasionally get a bit prosaic on the reporting side. But at a roundtable this week for the new film The Lightkeepers, iconic actor Richard Dreyfuss offered a wealth of unvarnished truth about himself, his career, and the industry at large.
Speaking to the actor during a roundtable in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dreyfuss was passionate, perhaps slightly unfocused, but always amazingly candid as he talked about his experiences on past films, his current obsessions including a civic initiative, his feelings about the Screen Actor’s Guild, and his future in and out of show business.

On Tuesday, Richard Dreyfuss spoke with reporters about his new film The Lightkeepers, a modest comedy about two men who hole up in a lighthouse to escape the world only to be confronted by their past. In addition to talking about that film, Dreyfuss briefly discussed his participation in the thriller Red and Piranha 3-D, where he reprises one of the roles that made him famous, Jaws’ enthusiastic ichthyologist Matt Hooper. The actor, who at 62 no longer has time for varnished truth, offered the following unusually candid details about his involvement in the pair of upcoming projects.
Hollywood News: You indicated you like a comfortable set. What was it like to work with Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman on Red, where they seem like old hands who could hyptothetically make the experience very relaxed?
Richard Dreyfuss: It was great. It was a very rare experience for me to work...

The Lightkeepers
Starring Richard Dreyfuss, Blythe Danner, and Mamie Gummer
Directed by Daniel Adams
Rated PG
Period pieces are supposed to evoke bygone eras, not feel like they were made in them. Ultimately, the real failing of The Lightkeepers is that it seems not like a movie out of its time but rather a production made decades ago that just now was unearthed and put in theaters.
Creaky, slow, and clumsily assembled, The Lightkeepers requires a significant undertaking just to navigate the hour-and-a-half from credits to credits. In a world of too much fast-paced editing, this one balances it all out, choosing far too often to take the scenic route.
It's not all a lost cause; after all, the film does star Richard Dreyfuss, Blythe Danner, and Meryl's kid, Mamie Gummer. The movie is also something rarely seen these days; it's purposely quiet. I don't mean it's quiet in the sense that there's no dialogue,...

The Lightkeepers hearkens back to a traditional style of filmmaking. Which means one has a setting, and some characters to interact in that setting. That's it. The story never gets too deep but does contain elements that many can relate to. Based on all the above, the flick needs performers that can breathe life into many simplicities.
Fortunately, the 90 minute flick secured talent with Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner. The only other characters that share just as much screen time as the two award-winning performers are Tom Wisdom and Mamie Gummer. So when these talented pieces are in play, can they enable an entertaining story? For their part, yes.
Our story is set in 1912 on Cape Cod island. Seth Atkins (Dreyfuss) is a cranky-old lighthouse keeper who has a strong distaste for women. As head lighthouse keeper, he does need to hire assistants to help...

It's not too often that one gets to speak with an Oscar-winning actor, but Richard Dreyfuss decided to put up with me for a bit. He is currently on location in Toronto shooting Red, which is due out later this year. However, coming to select theaters in Tampa on March 19th is his latest flick The Lightkeepers. Richard went into great detail on why he chose to be apart of this movie and what the story means to him. From there, we touched on the current state of the movie industry along with his current passion outside the biz. He even entertained a Jaws question, which I'm sure he's had enough of over the years. Here's a few highlights of our chat:
Having seen The Lightkeepers, one thing's for sure...Richard enjoyed playing the lead character "Seth Atkins." I asked how he transformed into the character and how much of...

"The Lightkeepers" is a dark horse candidate for awards season attention, offering up Richard Dreyfuss in his showiest lead performance since 1995's "Mr. Holland's Opus" and an offbeat marketing plan by a well-financed foreign sales company intent on making a splash in the U.S. marketplace.
Opening on Friday in Los Angeles for an Oscar-qualifying run, the performance-driven period drama written and directed by Daniel Adams also features strong performances by Blythe Danner, Tom Wisdom and Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep's daughter) in an old-fashioned love story set on Cape Cod in 1912.
"Lightkeeprs" is the third platform release this year by New Films International, a Sherman Oaks-based foreign sales company founded by Nesim Hason that has output deals in Latin America, Japan, Eastern Europe and elsewhere. The move into domestic distribution comes at a time it has gotten much harder to make presales without a U.S. release in place.

The film company facing legal action from The Godfather star James Caan has denied it has ever entered into a movie deal with the actor.
Caan filed a $5 million (£3.44 million) suit against Fish Weir Filmworks and writer/director Daniel Adams at California's Superior Court earlier this year.
The papers allege Adams and executives at the production company backed out of an agreement for him to play the lead role in forthcoming picture The Lightkeepers.
Caan is suing for breach of contract and fraud, claiming he was to be paid "$1,000,000 in cash on a pay-or-play basis... and $1,000,000 in deferred compensation".
However, bosses at Fish Weir Filmworks claim that Caan did not have a contract with the company, reports TMZ.com.
