Ajay Devgn’s Score Card Of Box Office Clashes. (Photo Credit – Instagram/IMDb)
Ajay Devgn might be coronated as the King of clashes. The actor, who has been enjoying good word of mouth with his latest release, Shaitaan, is gearing up for a huge clash with Akshay Kumar on Eid with his film Maidaan, where he will take on Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. While the battle seems to be very interesting, this will not be the first time Ajay will lock horns with another superstar.
Recently, he opened up about the clash and mentioned that he wishes for both films to do well. In fact, last year, Gadar 2 and Omg 2’s clash proved that two good films can survive. In fact, Ajay’s clashing history also proves the same.
In the last 15 years, the actor has faced a lot of clashes, and the results have been surprising. While he definitely leads the scorecard,...

Producer Ekta Kapoor, who is known for ruling the Indian television industry, has come out in support of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar after his recent release ‘Selfiee’ failed to pull the audience into the theatre.
‘Selfiee’, which also stars Emraan Hashmi is the remake of the 2019 Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’. However, the film failed and registered a dismal opening at the box-office with Rs 2.5 crore making it Akshay’s 6th flop in a row after ‘Bachchhan Paandey’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Raksha Bandhan’, ‘Cuttputlli’ and ‘Ram Setu’.
Taking to the story section of her Instagram, Ektaa pointed the guns at the “tabloid culture”. She wrote: “Akshay Kumar is the most reliable, dependable actor to work with!!! Depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows is a hugeeeeee low in itself!!!” She also added with the hashtag “insensitive”.

The countrywide lockdowns of all activities, be they personal or commercial, brought the world to a standstill. Like all others, the entertainment industry also came to a stop. No shootings for films or television, no film releases, no television serials or stage shows. Just nothing.
Things started to ease midway through 2021 with a hiccup here and there. Businesses and the entertainment industry as well were opening up gradually with controls being eased. It was a phased process, but it offered hope.
Just when the first total lockdown came into effect, people missing out on cinema and television took to the Ott platforms. These came to India 2016 onwards and are subscription-based, which few could afford or cared to subscribe. The lockdown worked wonders for Ott. Especially after these platforms started showing films; no one in India would pay to watch serials on Ott.

Keeping up with his practice of shooting and announcing films one after the other, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who was most recently seen in ‘Ram Setu’, is set to headline yet another film, this time a biopic.
This biopic is of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who, under very difficult circumstances, saved miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Raniganj of West Bengal in 1989. Born on November 22, 1939, in Amritsar, Gill was a Khalsa College alum, and was awarded Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak by President Ramaswamy Venkataraman in 1991.
Raniganj coal mine, India’s first coal mine, was opened in 1774 after John Sumner and Suetonius Grant Heatly of the British East India Company acquired a licence for mining activities. The mine was nationalised in 1974 and was acquired by the Coal Mines Authority of India.
The film, touted to be India’s first coal mine rescue film, will see Akshay Kumar playing the lead role.

Filmmakers giving out inflated box-office figures to the media and posting them on social media has become a norm now. A few media people are even bribed to endorse these claims. But there are two sides to a coin and, similarly, social media also has people with ‘For’ and ‘Against’ viewpoints. So, in the end, it is all a futile exercise. People see through them.
Now, even film stars, from Akshay Kumar to Amitabh Bachchan, lament the missing audience in the cinemas. But there are also some irresponsible and foolish actors who make public statements, like “we are not asking audiences to come watch our movies!”
Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Tapasee Pannu and Alia Bhatt went on the record with such comments! Who do you think films are made for? Only for the stars to make money? But where will the money to pay you come from if you tell...

A yet-to-be-released film comes up with a display ad offering a 25 per cent discount on admission rates. Has that ever happened before? Now, in the multiplex era, or in the single screen era? It has not. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam 2’ opens on November 18, but the advance booking has already commenced and for those who booked opening-day tickets on October 24 and 25 were offered a discount of 25 per cent!
Does it make business sense to lure viewers to book tickets for a film due three weeks later on the day when they have two new releases in the cinemas – ‘Ram Setu’ and ‘Thank God’, both fresh Diwali offerings. If cinemas are not drawing footfalls for new films, can one expect viewers for a forthcoming film?
What is strange is that no such offer was made for another Ajay Devgn film, ‘Thank God’, released on October 25. It is all happening now. Cinema viewing...

Ram Setu
Written & Directed by Abhishek Sharma
Ram Setu tries really hard to be politically correct. It is a product soaked, no dyed in saffron.
I don’t know what the original colour of the plot was. Certainly not green. But perhaps initially they wanted to make film tinged in saffron rather than drowned in the preferred colour. What we finally get is Akshay Kumar as an archeologist whom we first meet in Afghanistan. It is the kind of overpunctuated underlined prologue, which even James Bond would find exhausting, so who are we to live through it?
Live, we do. There is so much more to come. A lot of it plainly ridiculous. At some point the plot inexplicably moves to Sri Lanka because that is where Raavan apparently lived(whether the geographical Sri Lanka is actually the Lanka referred to in the Ramayan is a debatable point). And if...

Ram Setu is an action-adventure film directed by Abhishek Sharma (of ‘Tere Bin Laden’ fame) starring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Satya Dev. Ram Setu follows an archaeologist (Akshay Kumar) who is investigating the nature of Ram Setu. Akshay Kumar had reportedly described the film as “a bridge between generations past, present and future. Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment, touted the film as “a story formed on facts, science and historical heritage.” Apparently, the Ram Setu team also consulted the book ‘Dating The Era of Lord Ram’ (2004), as well as experts in archaeology and other areas.
As mentioned above, Akshay Kumar plays Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha, an archaeologist, a self-proclaimed atheist, who is part of a team invited to restore a Gautam Buddha statue blown by the Talibanis. While the main project is hampered midway, Aryan stumbles upon a discovery that gets him appreciation and promotion. In the meanwhile,...

Hindi cinema of late seems to be in trouble as Bollywood’s big-ticket releases such as ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Shamshera’, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Raksha Bandhan’ have failed to impress the audience.
Nevertheless, a motley bunch of films starring names such as Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn, Varun Dhawan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon are lined up for release in the coming months.
However, the million-dollar question looming over the furrowed brows of distributors is: Will these movies ensure the return of ‘achche din’ for Bollywood?
The first big film, which is slated to hit the screens is Ayan Mukerji’s trilogy ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ starring newly wed couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt along with Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 9.

The nearly moribund Bollywood family drama genre is set for a revival with “Raksha Bandhan,” directed by Aanand. L. Rai (“Atrangi Re”) and starring Akshay Kumar (“Sooryavanshi”) and Bhumi Pednekar (“Badhaai Do”).
Films revolving around the family unit, which used to be a staple in Bollywood, peaked with blockbuster “Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!” (1994), starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit, and made a brief reappearance with “Badhaai Ho” (2018) featuring Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana. “Raksha Bandhan” hopes to emulate the heydays of the genre.
“In ‘Raksha Bandhan’ there is a lot of hunger — hunger to come out with Indian values, hunger to depict the culture, hunger to talk about the bonding, the relationships, which are there with us, we’ve not gone insensitive towards them, but somehow they’ve taken a back seat, we don’t talk about it,” Rai told Variety. “Let me bring all those emotions to the forefront,...
