Santiago Requejo has not only turned his hit short, “All in Favor,” into a theatrical play set to premiere in Buenos Aires in April, he’s also working on a feature film version.
The award-winning work, which was shortlisted for this year’s live-action short film Oscar, sets the scene with a friendly meeting of apartment owners discussing a new elevator that becomes increasingly tense when they find out one of the neighbors has rented his flat to a work colleague with mental health issues.
The stage adaptation, which Requejo co-wrote with Javier Lorenzo and Raul Barranco, expands the story depicted in the short film. The play (titled “Votemos” in Argentina rather than “Votamos” as in Spain) premieres April 6 at the Teatro Metropolitan in Buenos Aires.
“I’m also writing the feature film,” Requejo adds. “I think the short has had a lot of resonance, a lot of impact. Many...

Move over, Ariel, Hollywood’s original mermaid movie, is back to make waves again! According to Deadline, Sarah Rothchild is writing the latest draft of Disney/Imagine/Free Association’s Splash remake. The project is reimagining Ron Howard’s 1984 comedy starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah as unlikely lovers from land and sea. To mix things up, Jillian Bell stars in the Splash remake in the role played by Hanks, while Channing Tatum stars in the role portrayed by Hannah. You head me. Tatum is strapping his floaties on to play a merman!
The original Spalsh starred Hanks, Hannah, Eugene Levy, John Candy, Dody Goodman, and Shecky Greene. The romantic comedy became a significant hit for Disney after swimming toward 70 million at the domestic box office. Splash was Howard’s first hit and helped put him on the map for decades. The plot for Spalsh revolves around a young man...

This year “Succession” swept the drama guest acting Emmy nominations, nabbing seven of the 12 available slots. I thought about that while watching “The Sandman” on Netflix. It’s a supernatural fantasy drama based on a comic book series by Neil Gaiman, the type of TV show that might not normally get on awards voters’ radar even in an era when genre shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Watchmen” collect trophies left and right. Sure the sterling crafts of “The Sandman” may be major players in the year to come, but allow me to make a case for the actors who already make a strong case for sweeping next year’s guest acting races. (Spoilers Follow)
