Shopping in the wilderness
I saw this last month at the 2008 Palm Springs international Short Fest. It played as part of the Entering the Twilight Zone film package and it delivers on creepiness. Jonathan Martin plays a man who is hiking through a national park in the northwest and is just about ready to put out the campfire and go to sleep when a backpacker named bob (James Kiberd) steps out of the woods and asks if can share the campfire to his evening dinner. Bob is older and a more experienced hiker/backpacker and shares with the camper some of his knowledge and wisdom and expertise in the wild. Bob explains how he likes to trade things with other hikers he meets in his travels. Also in the cast of three is Marcello Cacioppo as the photographer. Many may recognize Kiberd from his roles on daytime soap operas. Martin and Cacioppo are newcomers to the screen. Directed/written and co-edited by Billy Greenfield who has had a long Hollywood career as a production assistant in various capacities and on some major productions shows promise here as a writer/director in this spooky almost urban legend kind of tale that quietly unfolds. I would give this a 7.5 out of 10 and recommend it.
