"Once" is a song by British recording artist Liam Gallagher and this got released back in January 2020. Here we have the music video and it will probably pass the five million mark when it has its first anniversary. Not a bad number, even if also nowhere close to what many Americans reach these days. At almost six minutes, it is a fairly long music video. The director is Charlie Lightening, not familiar with the man, but he has worked with Liam Gallagher before, also with Paul McCartney and on many occasions with Jamiroquai. Gallagher is of course one of the band members from Oasis, but with all the arguing going on between him and his brother Noel years ago already, probably decades ago you could say, I am not surprised that in 2020 he is releasing his own songs. I think back then I always preferred Noel, not sure who's my favorite today. I think it is an alright song, a bit of a tribute to all the special moments and achievements in life that only happen once. Let's forget the lyrics reference that says that one thought they would happen more frequently to make sure these lyrics apply to more special moments. Liam also has two cameos here as a butler and chauffeur and the one he is serving is former footballer Eric Cantona from France and Manchester United. I remember he wanted to have an action film career after his retirement from sports and I think he has been in some films, but not entirely sure. But at least he gets to be a king in a Gallagher music video. There is not really much of a story. He sits at the dining table, walks through a gigantic mansion and in the end he leaves the house and enters an expensive car and Gallagher's character drives off. I guess he is not a real king and will return to said mansion, but this entire situation was also one that only happened once? Okay, not the greatest idea admittedly, but the inclusion of Cantona and Gallagher² makes it easier to ignore that the song is probably superior to the music video. Still not too shabby of a music video either overall. After initial hesitation, I give this one a thumbs-down. Maybe worth listening to more than once, but also not ten times or so. It's okay. Nothing more. But don't we all want to be king for a day? Maybe not all. Also where are the other people here, the royal household. I guess tehy are not there because this film is not set centuries back in the past, but today and Cantona's character is also not really a king, but all this happens to him once only. Which is true in fact because it happened to him for the shooting of this music video. But maybe they should have picked Paul Ince for the main character with how similar his name is to the title of the song and music video. Just kidding because I accidentally misspelled earlier. Cantona's popularity is kinda needed here to elevate the visual site and you can say about his acting whatever you want, also negative things, but here he sure looks the part of a king. Go check it out.
