The Music!
isabellacheng21 July 2022
First scene after the opening, the shuttle arrives at the colony. Beautiful stellar nursery and music swells... that drove me to tears! Holy cow! I wasn't expecting this! It's simply majestic!

I'll keep this spoiler-free. The dialogs are well-written. The actress of Topa shows great composure. The rest of the casts is amazing. We have a long-anticipated cameo, diplomacy and action running parallel, a menacing interrogator with an imposing stature. Suffice to say, this episode is masterfully done. It's like watching a big-budget movie. I'm impressed.

Make you furious, make you cried, make you wonder.
cesarcastrolopez22 July 2022
Wow!

I don't know by what moral rules society should be governed, but if they somehow include hatred, they would end up destroying the society they claim to protect and preserve.

I hope this series continues to improve, it's no longer a comedy-drama, and that's a good thing.

At the beginning the small jokes populated the show, but , little by little they were less and less frequent, they were replaced by a good script.

Seth MacFalane should not go back to comedy, and forget family guy, keep making this kind of insightful entertainment show, I will get the series on DVD as soon as it comes out.

Let us not forget that Topa was BORN a female. Just sayin... I've read reviews that claim that this is an affirmation of transgenderism. I believe it to be an affirmation of truth.

Ignore the haters

The show never ceases to amaze me - this episode actually brought a tear to my eye and I'm a hard guy lol this never happens!

Excellent writing - hour and a half long episode, basically a feature film.

It is a brilliant show and this season has exceeded all my expectations. Well done Seth - I applaud you and all the team - keep up the great work.

First episode from this season to make me cry couple of times
gen8621 July 2022
Very powerful, very touching episode, for the sci-fi fans, there's some amazing space chase/battles.

This episode also makes me very curious about further episodes in regards to the Union safety/strength and how will they proceed to reinforce against the Kaylons.

A very good episode that smartly speaks to issues facing society today
simianfriday21 July 2022
This was an excellent episode that once again uses the Topa situation to speak to issues facing our society today. There have been a few missteps along the way, but the manner in which Orville has approached the topics of transgenderism, feminism, and identity politics has been pretty remarkable overall and this episode is no exception. It's a shame there are so many sad individuals who refuse to accept people for who they are, insisting on imposing their own beliefs and morals on others, hopefully this show will open the eyes of at least some of these bigoted people.

An Amazing Episode

Warning: Spoilers
The action was excellent! The story was masterfully done. It started as a standard story and ended as an action series worthy of the best of Star Trek shows. It will not disappoint.

What an important and profound episode.

If you are a fan of this show and you didn't cry at least once are you a moclan? The writing the score was like watching a feature length film. Bravo Seth and team, I'm so impressed with this show!

A great moment in Sci-Fi storytelling
isa-alsup22 July 2022
This episode of the Orville we see the cast in intense drama, and the acting rose to the occasion. The daughter Topa Carrie's a lot of the story; this young actress handled her character well. If I could rate this more tgg if an 10 I would.

it was ok,
Rob-O-Cop23 July 2022
I didn't buy the logic of this.

They had substantial physical evidence of a crime in the form of Moclan DNA on the found necklace, They saw the potential invasion and destruction of the settlement as less than equal to the life of one girl.

They never explained how the moclan team knew Topa had done anything except be with her father on the planet, how she had any knowledge what so ever. If it was a listening device in one of the fireflies, then they already had the info they needed, cos they would have heard the frequency and the identity of the person. This was a sloppily written episode and we expect better.

We've had 2 of 8 episodes reach the lofty heights of series 1 and 2. 25% isn't good enough,

To all those who use "woke", when it's plain as day what you really want to say.

We see you.

We see the misogyny.

We see the racism We see your entitlement We see your ignorance.

Lowest review I've given this show....
Mccadoo26 October 2022
I love The Orville, I discovered it just recently and have made myself not binge watch it so I'll have new episodes to look forward to. And I've loved most of the episodes, even the one's that got a bit heavy handed with political messaging.

But season three seems to have been stuck on two plot lines; Isaac and Claire's unlikely relationship and Topa and the Moclans. I'm heartily tired of both at this point. As has already been pointed out here, there are entire universes out there to glean stories from. There's no need to spend so much time on just two. My favorite episodes so far this season have been "Twice in a Lifetime" and "Gently Falling Rain", neither had anything to do with Isaac/Claire or the Moclan's. And since I already know what this seasons final episode deals with even having not watched it yet I'm well aware that there's more of the same coming.

The Orville is an incredibly show that stands out in the vast wasteland that television has become, if there are future seasons, and I fervently hope there are, please move on to fresh and new storylines!!

Ugh sick of moclans
vern-1041026 July 2022
There's a galaxy worth of other aliens or stories to tell or interact with. Really sick of the whole moclan thing and just keep harping on it. I get that they keep using their society as parallels for today and whatever but just not logically so many people risking and giving careers and lives for this one moclan girl.

Another masterful episode!
vabeachmatthew21 July 2022
The writing, the acting, the stunningly beautiful graphics and video affects once again take the show to new heights. Seth MacFarlane is a wonderful storyteller and continues to give us shows that are not only compelling and captivating but so very emotional that they make us forget we are watching fiction.

#Hulu MUST #RenewTheOrville !

Why does the female colony look like a stone age camp?
q-83817-65499021 July 2022
Why do male moclans have sophisticated technology and space travel yet when they make a female camp, it turns into an undeveloped village of people dancing around fire and foraging for food? Dont they have replicators to live in better conditions? What if one of those girls in the colony wanted to be a scientist? Are you gonna educate her in your mud hut with books about dolly parton? Is this show saying men are smart and can develope science and technology and women are only into art/culture?

I'm not crying, you're crying
lordmiximbad21 July 2022
I was slightly skeptical of another Topa episode so soon in the season, but I quickly changed my mind. This episode felt like it's own movie and by the end, i was greeted by unexpected tears. I did not think the Orville was a show that could do that, I stand corrected. Bravo!

Another amazing episode that metaphorically speaks to the prejudices of our time
limpfan10622 July 2022
It's clear that people who are giving this episode negative reviews are conservatives who don't like having a mirror held up to their prejudices on modern gender ideals. I'm sure when people saw the episode of Star Trek TOS with black and white people who have alternative squares on their skin when it originally aired it would have been uncomfortable for people who were being reminded of their own racism.

10/10. Better to be woke than asleep.

The writing! The writers! Kudos!
donvyt21 July 2022
The Orville has outgrown its parodical beginnings and has been addressing currently all-too familiar and relevant issues such as gender-divisiveness and revile for anything different - a mindset made infamous by George Bush the younger: "You're either with us or against us."

This has not gone unnoticed and has managed to attract the attention of big-name stars such as Dolly Parton, in this episode.

Incredibly well structured and written
andrewdmatz21 July 2022
Phenomenal episode by Seth and his team. Acting was top tier and the suspense was so intense! Nice to see that The Orville cast and crew are expressing a very important message about challenges in global diplomacy. If only some world leaders watched this show.

Priorities
ragingrei22 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Suppose we had an alliance to fight climate change with a horribly oppressive, openly sexist regime.

By the reasoning of this episode, an elevated society would abandon the alliance.

I like the ethics this show champions, but the way they're prioritized really reflects our current unwillingness to address existential issues prior to cultural ones, and our habit of judging populations exclusively by their worst behaviors and worst examples.

No wonder we're so divided.

Wow!
greenhavenall-2055821 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have found this season to be unrelentingly dark and depressing. And this episode is certainly Dark, with the manipulation, kidnapping, torture and intended Murder of a child for political goals. However, THIS episode had 2 saving graces: 1. The ending that showed that the Righr thing to do is not always the Easy thing to do. 2. The Dolly Parton cameo that was still a surprise even after the earlier references to her in the episode (Thank you Ms. Parton!), because I wouldn't have expected her to be on a sci-fi series. Ever. Hopefully this is the turning point back into a brighter future.

It is a meh
pensman21 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As soon as Dolly Parton was identified by Heveena as the ultimate example of independence, it was only a matter of time until she had a guest appearance on The Orville. While brief, Dolly was pivotal to the plot. It was time for Moclan to exit the union, their 19th century views on the equality of woman were apparently worse than fighting the Kaylon without their help. More disturbing than a Kaylon Armageddon was the hint of a hookup between Kelly and Bortus. And with the return of a repentant Klyden, the concept of a menage a trois is just too much. While a well written episode, it is way over time to keep dealing with Topa, Bortus, Klyden and women's rights; there must be other issues and adventures to be had in the 25th century. Time for the writers to figure out if they want to keep the comedy or just go for straight drama.

Warning: Spoilers
How many times are we going to have an episode about Topa?? Who cares anymore?

Let's move on, please. Makes me think this is going to be the last season of they've already run out of idea.

Unrelated, but who's Dolly's plastic surgeon?

neilwadams21 July 2022
Just keeps getting better. This is a movie in itself. Beautifully produced and written. And one hell of a guest star. And so moving. I see the anti-woke warriors are out in force again. Perhaps they are just bots, or soulless minions of orthodoxy perhaps. How anyone could not be moved by this is beyond me.
