The Alabama foghorn craves a piece of the Rock.

Camp is the name of the game the moment that Rock Hudson calls up Tallulah Bankhead and invites her to a party and asks her to invite several other celebrities she knows which results in a gathering of the well known and the obscure. Of course the results are hysterically funny with one recipient calling her sir, and Tallulah expressing her envy over the younger ladies. Esther Williams, Lisa Kirk, Sammy Davis Jr., among others, for 90 minutes of music and comedy, the start of a short list variety show that surrounded a weekly party gathering. The conversations aren't all interesting, but the music is great, and Tallulah and Rock great hosts, although Rock is the only one listed as hosting.

The cast is listed alphabetically to avoid conflict between the stars (that mentioned by the announcer at the beginning), and all seems promising. Tallulah's phone call sequence is definitely classic, with Davis doing a hysterical imitation of her (and no reaction that she would later have with Lucy Ricardo imitating her) that makes her laugh. There are unintentional laughs concerning Hudson's reputation as a ladies man, but mainly it's a fast moving all-star revue. Highlights include Davis promoting "Porgy and Bess" by singing "It Ain't Necessarily So", followed by a series of imitations that he does of various friends, not present. When Lisa Kirk does two numbers in one set, she completely takes over and steals the show. Tallulah and Esther's slinging of barbs seems forced and possibly turned some people off with its caustic nature. Still a fascinating example of classic TV.
