Trust No One.

It's funny when I tell people that the Twilight Zone is the best sci-fi show of all time how many people argue with me about that point. The truth is Twilight Zone has been copied more times than any other show in history, and this movie is another one.

This particular movie copies the plot of the ep. Where the astronauts return from space, and then they vanish 1 by 1. In this case it's a family of 4, and the family members vanish 1 by 1. Only the mother seems to remember that her other family members were there just the day before.

That being said, the movie is alright. The acting is a little hokey but the story is done pretty well. There's a little twist at the end. 6/10.

Red Road River.

Warning: Spoilers
When looking at the line-up of feature films to be shown at Grimmfest, this one stood out thanks to the cast/crew being a family! This led to me going down the red river road.

View on the film:

Revealing in a interview after the screening/stream that they were originally about to make another film, until Lockdown cancelled their plans, leading to them showing a impressive inventiveness, and coming up with a movie they could make at home whilst in Lockdown!

Filmed in just 10 days, the Schuyler's place the family on the edge of the cliff as a pandemic breaks through their front door barrier, with crisp dolly shots, (performed via array of ropes and pulleys moved by on-screen actors, whose hand movements were cleverly blocked from being visible) circling the increasingly fearful strain the family are put under.

Mentioning in the interview after the stream that the script was written in one long writing session, the screenplay by Paul Schuyler to have the virus be able to spread via social media,be one that becomes increasingly grating, with the subtly of a sledgehammer warning about the evils that social media spreads, which chops away at the initial tension Horror of a family trying to survive a pandemic,on a red river road.

OK movie.

This movie as a whole is average at best. No where near an 8 or 10 as others have said. Be real, it's not up there with The Shining or The Godfather. It has a kind of interesting premise but no real ending. The acting and overall production was good. Worth a watch.

No real focus here...

Umm..ok?

I will say that it is interesting in how this movie was written, directed, produced and conceived. Also a neat twist on casting that you really never see as it is a true life family. Cool.

The idea of a virus spreading via the internet or social media is interesting. I think the underlying theme of the addictive or dangerous nature of the Internet are subtly presented fairly well.

The odd three minute seen toward the end was actually pretty suspenseful and creepy.

However I am not quite sure what the overall plot of this movie was. Was it some cross inter-woven dual reality going on? Was the main or other characters dreaming? Partially dreaming? Who were "they"? Who was in "control"? It was very hard to establish a baseline of reality and that only works if you tie it all together at some point which I don't believe this movie did.

I can kind of see that the idea was all of the above, or some of the above, but it was all thrown at the viewer very disjointedly. I think one had to really reach for some connectivity between ideas in this movie.

It's not the worst movie I have seen lately but it is not good enough to watch again to try to figure out.

What happened?
Otte130 March 2023
Wow...this movie had so many possibilities and chose the worst one.

It is really hard to say anything without being a spoiler, so I will keep this simple, the movie never answers the question of what, when or why. It is a slow burn, but slow burns are only worth it if there is a dramatic or impactiful climax that makes it worthwhile dealing with the previous 90-120 minutes of slow burn. But when a slow burn ends with a slow ending, or in this case no answers, then it is a waste of time. This is a waste of time. Acting was decent, intrigue was decent, but the entire movie was building to a big reveal that never happened.

Skip, just skip. Thank me later.

Really enjoyed this little gem.

Such a well directed and acted little gem of a film. Just watched this at grimmfest online and had to say what a great job. Its a slow paced independent film with great story and heart. Jade was excellent in the main role and i mean excellent and when i learned a family made this in lockdown i just felt pride for them. What a team ! Seriously great job and keep up the good work.

Mature and personal film making at its best
stevoe-482225 April 2021
Watched Red River Road as part of Grimmfest and was not disappointed. Considering this is a family project, it is slickly written, paced and produced to the highest level. The sense of family unity is well constructed, only making the sense of unease all the more real as the story unfolds.

The sheer standard of film making, acting and pacing really surprised me, supported by an effective and original score. The unusual and clever use of home movies, helps to increase the credibility in this family and is an element I have not seen before.

As always the sign of a great film is we were still talking about it the next day. Watch it !

Inpressive.
andrewwilliams-6877415 April 2023
I have seen million dollar movies that looked like a toddler made them, this movie is not one of them. I am very impressed with the filming and editing! Why haven't we seen Jade in more movies and television, because she is very good! This movie really did a good job of making me want to see what was coming next. I think I kind of know what was going on with the person in the penultimate scene, but it would be nice if there was a follow up movie to elaborate on what was happening. I am looking forward to seeing more projects from this team of people! I wish I had been able watch this when I was bored during lock down.

Amazing, intriguing, relevant and unnerving.

Genuine and realistic as they come. If you're looking for a movie like The Shining or The Godfather...this isn't it; although, both classics. The review regarding these movies in comparison is complete asinine. They have absolutely nothing in common except this is a very unique movie. That's where that comparison ends. The movie leaves questions at the end that makes you want to Google what happened but given the premise of the movie, does anyone know what happens? I don't remember looking up the ending of most movies, much less trying to compare them. Idiots. Both great movies but not relevant whatsoever to this one. I think it was genius and I have not seen another movie quite like this. I believe it's actually before it's time. Highly recommended. It makes you think throughout and after. What else could one want from a movie about a pandemic? I wont throw the spoiler alerts in there but it doesn't end with a maze or a mobster...allegedly.

Worth it!
amylynn-0360626 March 2023
The monotony of day to day pandemic life in a loving family was captured and the compliant behavior requied by an unseen government is understandable but there are other reasons for the control. Misbehaving teens put the family at risk (that shouldn't be a shocker to anyone). The virus symptoms grow in some of the family members increasing the tension as the family suffers one loss after another. The excitement ramps up when the truth starts to be revealed. In the last few scenes it appears there is a plausible explanation so when everything seems to be resolved at the end of the movie I started crying for the character's happiness and the dog ... until the very last scene.

For a low budget movie this was a fantastic story & script. The conversations sounded natural. Although it moved a little slow in the beginning. I was rooting for the protagonist by the end.

Definitely worth the watch, still thinking about the end and rooting for the characters to have a happy ending.

Do NOT hesitate to watch this
msdeborahadavis31 January 2023
It is well written, well acted, with perfect timing and suspense, and the twist at the end, with the final look on that final face shot? AMAZING! Perfect.

I will be watching this again too, and recommending it to everyone.

How can this POSSIBLY be a "family project;" the excellence is too much,

better than Hollywood.

Very impressive! !

There was not one slouch in this film, not even that sweet dog.

...... This is oscar worthy.

I'm going to be looking it up to see if it won anything anywhere, because it SHOULD.

so real I had to hide my eyes
lvl-2624228 January 2022
So well written and acted, so timely, so real and so scary and emotional. Jade wonderful, pacing and musical score perfect, Complicated enough to eave me guessing, but I'll be able to sleep tonight. Loved recognizing our local settings and seeing the earlier home movies. Kudos to all!!
