Tasteless.

A woman is gang raped inside Big Dan's, her trial is broadcast publicly on CNN.

Shocking events here, each episode has managed to evoke a strong set of emotions, this one perhaps brings out the strongest feeling so far, utter revulsion.

There's a reason we watch shows like this, a curiosity for the macabre, but to watch the dark side of human nature live as it were during such a trial, for me this was just too much. What on Earth would this have done for anyone that had a serious crime to report, you can't imagine.

The fact that her name was leaked, unbelievable, the way that she was treated by the prosecution team was abhorrent, I can't imagine a worse crime than rape, fortunately things seem to be changing, we're not there yet, but things are improving it seems.

Rip Cheryl, what a brave lady.

7/10.

Sad

The undertone of this episode was just sad, and the epitome of why rape and its accusers are such a hot topic. Victim shaming and persecution are just as prevalent today as they were back then. Sad to see it's toll on the victim in this case.

Irony

Warning: Spoilers
Isn't it ironic that a country of immigrants is complaining about immigrants?

Interesting that this was the first televised court trial in the US. They leaked the victims name immediately. I gotta admit I though it was a fake accusations to begin with, but it clearly wasn't.

I feel sad for Cheryl, may she rest in peace.

Cannot rate this

I usually rate, rarely review, but just can't rate this. It's so sad and awful, with nothing positive you can take from it. Watch by all means - I don't regret the time. It's historic and reveals a great deal about American society then and now.

The series is "Trial by Media", and this is about the worst case I know of in that class. "Man's inhumanity to man", wrote Robert Burns. Well, here it is in full display. Many of the old local tv and radio interviews of the average Joes and Janes on the streets of New Bedford have not aged well. In fact, they're often appalling. All parties but the victim come out of this guilty - the media, the town as a whole, the criminal justice system, the society at large, and, of course, the actual rapists and everyone in Big Dan's on that terrible night.

I will never watch this again. It's just too heartbreaking.
