Netflix has unveiled a trailer for Berlin-bound action drama “Kill Boksoon,” with Jeon Do-yeon, previous winner of the best actress prize at Cannes, in the starring role.
The film sees Jeon as Gil, a single woman juggling the demanding and conflicting roles of professional killer and mother to a teenage daughter.
Despite her unblemished track record as an assassin, Gil hesitates about renewing her contract at the killing company where she is employed and decides to spend time finding out what is gnawing at her daughter. But complications are never far away, such as discovering her next target is at a parent-teacher meeting.
She also finds herself in competition with another hired gun (portrayed by “Peninsula” star Koo Kyo-hwan) and under pressure from her employers, portrayed Sul Kyung-gu and E Som (“Samjin English Company Class”).
The movie will have its world premiere in the Berlinale Special section, which acts as...

The box office outlook in South Korea, which last year was the world’s fourth largest theatrical market, turned from bad to worse. Gross revenues over the weekend dropped to just $2.24 million, a slump of 40% compared with the already depressed $3.70 million total of the weekend before.
In the intervening period cinemas in the Greater Seoul area have been required to increase social distancing measures and cut their seating capacity, as a reaction to the latest surge in coronavirus cases.
From Tuesday, Seoul was placed under Level 2 restrictions on a scale of 1 to 4 of virus response. Cinemas can stay open, though many other indoor activities are banned for a week, and private groups cannot exceed more than 10 people.
Additionally, it emerged that another batch of films that had previously been targeting a theatrical release have now decided on a direct to streaming approach instead. These include the much anticipated “Space Sweepers,...

Korean cinemas got a boost as coronavirus restrictions were reduced to their lowest level, meaning that an empty seat no longer has to be left between every audience member. The move, implemented from Monday, came too late to transform the weekend.
Cgv and other cinema operators told the Yonhap news agency that their booking systems would allow the sale of 100% of seats from Monday. They will have to continue temperature checks and providing other simple public health precautions.
Over the weekend, new release title “Collectors,” a treasure hunt action drama set in contemporary Seoul, launched on Wednesday took the top spot in its opening weekend with $3.46 million, and a five-day cumulative of $4.73 million, according to data from the Kobis tracking service of the Korean Film Council (Kofic).
“Collectors” deposed comedy drama “Samjin Company English Class,” which had been the chart leader for the two previous weekends. It earned $1.56 million, or...
