Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson has enjoyed success on the big and small screens throughout his five decades. Take a tour of our photo gallery ranking his 12 greatest feature films from worst to best.
Levinson began his career as a comedy writer on various variety shows in the 1970s ultimately landing a steady job writing for 72 episodes of “The Carol Burnett Show,” for which he won Emmys in 1974 and 1975, competing again in 1976. When that show ended he began writing screenplays and had a remarkably successful run co-writing two Mel Brooks movies — “Silent Movie” and “High Anxiety” — as well as two acclaimed dramas “Inside Moves” and “and Justice for All.” He would receive his first Oscar nomination for the screenplay of “And Justice for All.”

Deadline reports that director Ridley Scott is in talks to direct an as-of-now untitled Bee Gees biopic for Paramount. A couple of years ago, Kenneth Branagh was reported to be directing this Bee Gees movie, and way back in 2010, there were rumors that Steven Spielberg might direct it.
According to the report, Scott has long wanted to make a movie with or about the Bee Gees, ever since the band's longtime manager Robert Stigwood worked with Scott on developing a movie with the band's members back in the 1970s. Though the movie fell apart, Scott has a chance now, nearly 50 years later, to tell the story of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The other big reason Scott is being attached to the project is that Paramount executives reportedly loved early footage of Scott's upcoming "Gladiator 2" and wanted to sign the prolific director for his next feature as quickly as possible.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.
That may as well be the motto for the five broadcast networks heading into the 2023-24 season as their corporate parents are increasingly focused on cutting costs, restructurings and streaming. To that end, three of the five networks have made leadership changes in the past year.
The biggest change comes at The CW, which is now majority controlled by Nexstar with former Pop topper Brad Schwartz now tasked with making the younger-skewing network profitable for the first time following the unexpected departure of TV’s longest-tenured president, Mark Pedowitz. Over at CBS, Kelly Kahl and his top lieutenant Thom Sherman and their sizable paydays were bounced in favor of former head of current Amy Reisenbach. Over at Fox, Charlie Collier — who led the network following the sale of its studio counterpart — bailed for Roku with the broadcaster tapping unscripted chief...

Even in an age where most movies feel designed to pander to large fandoms, some movies surprise you. Priscilla director Sofia Coppola said she didn’t create her film to appeal to Elvis Presley fans. She also revealed how she tried to portray Elvis and Priscilla — and even compared Priscilla to Marie Antoinette.
‘Priscilla’ director Sofia Coppola said she didn’t want to villainize Elvis Presley
According to a 2023 interview with the Financial Times, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s estate disallowed Coppola from using any of the singer’s music in the film. The estate issued a statement decrying the film. Coppola was reportedly amused by this turn of events.
“The Elvis estate is not happy,” she said. “I remember Priscilla’s manager saying, ‘The Elvis fans are not going to like certain things.’ And I was like, ‘I’m not making it for them.'”

It might surprise some classic rock fans to learn that the trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla doesn’t paint Elvis Presley in a flattering way. Despite this, one of the producers of the movie defended Elvis, saying he lived in “a different time.” The director of the film also said she could relate to its story.
The ‘Priscilla’ trailer shows a side of Elvis Presley we didn’t get from Baz Luhrmann
To some, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis was a masterpiece, one of the most riveting rise-and-fall stories of recent years. To others, it was simple fluff, a feature-length commercial for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll at a time when his culture cache was waning. Regardless, the movie was clearly designed to appeal to Elvis’ fans. The movie depicted the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer in a light that was alternatively glamorous and sympathetically sad.

Blur are officially back with The Ballad of Darren, their first album in eight years. Listen to the complete project below via Apple Music and Spotify.
Featuring singles “St. Charles Square” and “The Narcissist” — the latter of which we named Song of the Week — The Ballad of Darren was produced by James Ford. In a statement, Damon Albarn described it as “an aftershock record, reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.”
Albarn spoke more extensively about the project in our recent cover story on Blur. The LP marked the band’s most collaborative project in years, with bassist Alex James and guitarist Graham Coxon insisting on working out its 10 songs with Albarn. As a result, the singer called The Ballad of Darren “the first legit [Blur] album since [1999’s] 13.”
In his review of the album for Consequence, Associate Editor Paolo Ragusa called The Ballad of Darren an “enjoyable, heartfelt, and contemplative record.

Damon Albarn has characterized Blur’s The Ballad of Darren as “an aftershock record, a reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.” Indeed, the group’s ninth album embodies just that. At its core, it mourns the heartaches, perils of fame, and drug use that the band has grappled with throughout their illustrious 32-year career.
It would be easy, then, for Albarn and company to succumb to creating another typical Blur album that dwells in the past without pushing their music forward in any meaningful way. If not for Alex James’s enchanting basslines, Albarn’s incessant lyrical vulnerability, or the dreamlike orchestration embedded within these songs, it very well could have been just that. Regardless, the album affirms that Blur isn’t ready to get comfortable quite yet.
