- With two undercover advisers in their midst, our celebrities must create 'selfie-inspired artworks' to sell at auction for charity. The team with the highest profit will win. The losing team must face Lord Sugar and someone will be fired.
- Twelve celebrities are divided into two teams of six. For their first task, the teams are given six hours to create three selfie-inspired works of art and sell one at a black-tie auction and the other two at a silent auction. The team that raises more money from the auctions donates the combined teams' winnings to their project manager's charity, while the losing team return to the boardroom, where after discussing what went wrong, the project manager picks two people to bring back with them, from which one person gets fired.—Allister Coots
- Fourteen celebrities gather outside the boardroom ready to meet a new boss. They are pop twins The Veronicas, model and Australian Survivor (2016) contestant David Genat, weight loss guru and personal trainer Michelle Bridges, fashion designer Camilla Franks, radio host and comedian Michael Wipfli, also known as "Wippa", comedian Ross Noble, activewear empress Lorna Jane Clarkson, Olympic artistic gymnast and Australian Ninja Warrior (2017) contestant Olivia Vivian, actor and comedian Rob Shehadie, surfer and social media influencer Alex Hayes, style influencer and Married at First Sight Australia (2015) contestant Martha Kalifatidis, interior designer and The Block (2003) judge Shaynna Blaze, singer Anthony Callea and entrepreneur and Boost Juice founder Janine Allis. They will be competing for the title of Celebrity Apprentice Australia and a $100,000 donation to their nominated charity.
Receptionist Natasha Young tells the celebrities that they can enter the boardroom. As they do so, Janine says "I cannot wait to see how this unfolds". After they have assembled, the new boss, Lord Alan Sugar, arrives and puts the celebrities back in their place by admitting that he has no idea who any of them are, and schooling them in his Machiavellian ways by telling them "I don't like bullsh*ters, I don't like cheats, I don't like liars and I don't like schmoozers".
Lord Sugar then divides the celebrities into two teams of seven and explains the first task to them. Each team is given six hours to create three works of art that are inspired by selfies and sell them at auction. One of each team's items will be sold at a live black-tie auction, and the other two will be sold at a silent auction. The team that raises more money in the auctions will have the combined teams' earnings donated to their project manager's charity.
The first things for the teams to do are to decide on a team name and to appoint one person as a Project Manager for the task. The position comes with risks and rewards, with the Project Manager automatically being held responsible if the team loses, but their charity receive the task's prize money if the team wins. One team consists of The Veronicas, David Genat, Olivia Vivian, Alex Hayes, Martha Kalifatidis, Shaynna Blaze and Janine Allis. Though some people in the group consider naming their team the "Sugar Daddies", they decide on the name Team Momentum. With some reluctance, Shaynna is elected as the team's Project Manager, which means that the charity that the team are aiming to raise money for is Voice of Change. Michelle Bridges, Camilla Franks, Michael "Wippa" Wipfli, Ross Noble, Rob Shehadie, Anthony Callea and Lorna Jane Clarkson make up the other team, who choose the name Team Fun-Raisers as a play on "fundraisers", hoping to make the process of raising money exciting. They elect Wippa as their Project Manager, which makes the Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation the charity that will benefit should the team win.
Next, the teams have to each choose the three muses that their artworks will be based on. At Team Fun-Raisers, Wippa selects Camilla, Anthony and himself to be the subjects of his team's artworks. At Team Momentum, Shaynna decides that The Veronicas, Olivia and Alex will be their team's muses. Trouble brews almost as soon as the choices are made, with David feeling that he has been overlooked despite his previous experience as a model. In a subsequent piece to camera, David sarcastically says "Great choice there, Shaynna". His mouth might be saying one thing but his eyes are saying something to the contrary.
Despite the fractiousness, Team Momentum get the ball rolling almost immediately on their artworks, staying true to their name. Alex organises a photograph through which he calls for a better world through climate activism, The Veronicas hand-paint a special edition guitar and when Shaynna finds out how Olivia is going, she walks in to find her neatly folded and lying on a table covered in papier-mâché, as she plans to sell a full body cast of her flexible form. "The lengths you will go to for your art!" Shaynna cries. Over at Team Fun-Raisers, Wippa also creates a papier-mâché mould of what he describes as his "dad bod", designed to be a celebration of the "modern man's body", Anthony creates a series of photos that represent the entrapment that he felt in a homophobic society, and Camilla does what Michelle refers to as "getting her tits out", by taking a nude photoshoot to raise awareness of breast cancer.
With their artworks completed, the two teams make their way to Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art, and at the black-tie function, both of the Project Managers speak to the other guests about their charities. Wippa gets particularly emotional during his speech about the Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation, during which he reveals that Cooper, who was only 18 years old when he passed away, was a friend of his. As tears begin to well in his eyes, he says "I think Cooper would be proud that I'm here doing this. He was a fighter, a very brave young man". Then it is time for the live auction to begin, and Team Momentum get off to a strong start when The Veronicas' special edition guitar and signed portrait sell for $60,000, while the nude portrait of Camilla puts $15,000 into Team Fun-Raisers' coffers.
Later, the celebrities arrive for the boardroom, where they will hear the final results. After Natasha tells the celebrities that they can enter the boardroom, both of the teams receive a surprise when Janine Allis and Lorna Jane Clarkson break away from their respective teams and sit in a different part of the boardroom. After watching things from above, Lord Sugar descends and enters the boardroom, taking his seat between where Janine and Lorna are sitting. Then he reveals that Janine and Lorna had been tasked with going undercover at each of their respective teams, but they were actually his advisers. They were not permitted to have any influence on the task's decision making process.
Lord Sugar then begins to talk about the task he set for the two teams of celebrities. He is unhappy about Team Momentum's decision to feature Alex at the expense of David, explaining "You don't buy a stallion and use it to plough a field, if you know what I mean". Then the advisers begin to reveal the results of the task by starting with the live auction, which gives Team Momentum a strong start. Then they announce what happened at the silent auction - Olivia's body cast earned another $11,000 for Team Momentum, and Anthony's series of photos netted $30,000 for Team Fun-Raisers. Wippa's "dad bod" body cast proves to be the real asset of the task, earning $55,000 and giving Team Fun-Raisers a total of $100,000. Finally, Alex's picture sold for $13,500, giving Team Momentum a total of $84,500. With all the results revealed, Team Fun-Raisers are declared the winners of the task, and the Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation receive a donation of $184,500.
Team Fun-Raisers head to the winners room to celebrate their task win, while a TV inside the room allows them to watch as Team Momentum discuss what went wrong with Lord Sugar and his advisers. In the discussion, Martha tells Lord Sugar "Shaynna was the Project Manager, so she signed and sealed all the muses. Our art was weak, our muses were not the right muses", giving the judge from The Block a look that says to her "sorry, not sorry". Meanwhile, Natasha comes into the winners room and turns the TV off, just before Lord Sugar tells Shaynna that as the losing Project Manager, she is able to pick two people to bring with her back into the boardroom. As a payback for her earlier attempt to throw her under the bus, Martha is one of the people that Shaynna picks, and the interior designer also chooses to bring Alex back. David, Olivia and The Veronicas are sent to join Team Fun-Raisers in the winners room, giving them their first clue about who might get fired, while Shaynna, Martha and Alex wait outside as Lord Sugar consults his advisers. Janine suggests "The photo supplied by Alex was just an inferior product", while Lorna expresses the view that "Alex and Martha are young, so I don't think they should have been left to their own resources", appearing to lay the blame on Shaynna.
After weighing up the various failings of the three contestants, Lord Sugar comes to a decision, then gets Natasha to tell the three celebrities that he will see them now. In the talk that ensues, each of the celebrities tries to shift the blame for the team's failure away from themselves in the hope that someone else will get fired, but it is Lord Sugar who has the final say. He tells them "Martha, it's not quite clear in my mind what you actually did. And I'm sorry to say, Shaynna, this has not been a very successful task, and for that reason, I'm struggling with what I have to do next". After pausing to allow the tension in all three celebrities to build up, the silence is finally broken by Lord Sugar announcing "Alex, you're fired". The social media influencer and surfer is removed from the boardroom, while Shaynna and Martha join the other celebrities to reveal Alex's firing. After Alex makes his way out of the office to a waiting car, he takes due credit for his failings by saying "I think my nemesis in this situation was Martha. You gotta be savage, and I think that's why Martha stayed in. I just don't wanna be that dude".
