The Incident at Tower 37 is an impresive CG animated short film written and directed by Chris Perry and produced within the collaborative animation curriculum at Hampshire College.
Tower 37 siphons every drop of water from a once-pristine lake, that is, until the station's steward realizes that it is slowly destroying an entire ecosystem.
Even though it may saound a little environmentally preachy, it's not, there's a good message here, and it's just solid storytelling. Watch the short below and tell us if you liked it or not. ...

[1] Bit Films [2] founder and Hampshire College associate professor Chris Perry has created this animated short, The Incident at Tower 37, about a water processing facility operator who has a crisis of conscience when he realizes where the water in his station comes from. It's less preachy and more enjoyable than it sounds, though the message -- that we need to be more conscientious about how our modern lifestyles can affect nature -- still comes across loud and clear. Watch it after the jump. Although the film is obviously meant to impart an eco-conscious moral, I'd say it does a pretty good job of avoiding the trap that a lot of message films fall into, where heavy-handed preaching pushes storytelling basics like "compelling narrative" and "relatable characters" to the wayside. I like the fact that neither the operator nor the fish-man are fully heroic or villainous -- each comes to see the repercussions of his actions.

The Incident at Tower 37 is a ten-minute HD animated film written and directed by Chris Perry and produced within the collaborative animation curriculum at Hampshire College. Perry has worked on such Pixar productions as Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life, but he created this film independently and has released it for "World Water Day" which I didn't even know existed.

Cartoon Brew has debuted the list of the thirty-three films up for consideration in the Best Animated Short category for the upcoming 2011 Oscars and I have done my very best to find a video for each and every one. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything for Rao Heidmets's Inherent Obligations or Don Hertzfeldt's Wisdom Teeth so if anyone out there can help find video for those either let me know in the comments or shoot me an email.
Otherwise, spend some time over the next three pages to preview some really cool videos. I had a chance to preview a few of them while putting this article together, but have yet to check them all out. So let me know which ones are your favorites and which ones don't really do it for you.
Additionally, if any of the people that made these films are reading this...
