Less action packed and visual effect heavy - Chapter Four is rich with world building and terrific character interactions
Holt3441 September 2021
Lea Thompson comes back to direct Summer School: Chapter Four which follows the events of the previous episode and as Pat considers whether he should come clean to Courtney about Eclipso's past, a surprise visit from Crock and Paula catches him and Barbara off guard from their recent breakpoint. A tense run-in with The Shade provides Courtney with some valuable information. Finally, Cindy makes her move.

The showrunners and writers teased a darker tone for the second season and it's finally here. We get more answers and villains have once again a larger presence which was one of the reasons why Stargirl felt different other than the increased budget. Seeing Cindy organizing the new ISA sets up a lot of great things, but the best part of the episode is of course the return of the Crocks and the larger role Artemis Crock has in the episode, her role in the second season has me excited. The Crocks interactions with Pat and Barbara was nice to see as it digs deeper how there are bad people but also pure evil. There were lots of build up and world building, overall a great episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Courtney asks her dad who is Eclipso and his motives. Not gonna lie, but this is f** terrifying... real evil inside a black diamond that can get inside of your head and make you do unimaginable horrid things and to yourself and seeing things that aren't real. I do hope we will get back to the darkness from last season. I am getting real vibes of Pinhead where he shows no mercy and is sadistic. "No tears please. It's a waste of good suffering." Married felons break out of prison. Mike is taken captive. Cindy pays Isaac a visit. Mike listens to a voice message to arrive at the Pit Stop. Funny enough, he had a flip phone. Now, that is nothing wrong with that. They want to make a deal that they want to lay low until their daughter's tryouts are done. Deal accepted. Basically, the next scene is a man talking to a man, a woman talking to a woman. Quite hilarious. Yolanda has a job? Courtney, Beth, and Rick are researching Eclipso. Diablo Island stopped appearing on maps in 1832 because no one ever came back. Only one person ever returned, but with the black diamond. Cindy has taken Isaac to the ISA base. Courtney goes to the House of Secrets on Bruce Gordon. Eventually, Shade is there! I really like this scene, always love to see more of Shade. Eclipso killed Dr. MidNite's daughter when we saw the flashback to Episode 1. Shade reveals his plan to hide Eclipso where no one could find it. Pat and the two escaped watch their daughter's tryout. Of course, Courtney doesn't know. 40 yards pass. I don't know if that's possible. Eventually, Cindy is watching too! Courtney is also there. She sees SWAT members and begins to attack them, but stops. They farewell. Cindy visits Artemis to join her group. Beth finally reunited with Chuck, but he lost his memory. But, it is the real Dr. Charles McNider!

Thoughts?

Unrelated, but it is confirmed that there will be a Season 3. I feel quite bad for the Crock family. I love how they have done to Courtney here where she isn't all about Stargirl, so that is something nice.

9/10.

Temper and diamonds don't mix

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 4: Kindergarten No.4 with some nice development, good acting, a little sulfurous storyline and nearly the 20th Chuck that we are pleased to hear from her ardent fan.

Slowly developing with no real action and that is not good. It only means that most of the next episodes would have big chunks of fillers.

The Rise of...
GomezAddams6661 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This one was by far one of the most entertaining episodes of the series.

A lot happened that it is hard to unpack, the ISA Unlimited is being created at a steady rate, but the MVP this time was Stella Smith as Artemis Crock.

This series is so greatly written, that even some antagonists are likable, which is something this young actress brings to the table, you completely understand where she is coming from, and you can see the rise of Artemis Crock is in the horizon.
