I remember seeing the first episode when Joan Crawford filled in for her absent adopted daughter Christina. It was announced during the previous program that Joan would be doing so and to stay tuned. I never watched the Secret Storm before or after Joans appearance, didn't have any interest in the show, only wanted to see Joan. Yes, it was over the edge to have a 63 year old playing the part of a 28 year old but the ratings went up and it had more viewers than ever. Joan Crawford wasn't trying to steal the part or gain notoriety , this was beneath her, but she knew that another actress of Christinas age could easily replace her permanently as soap operas would drop a character or person playing the character at will like a hookers panties. Joan filled in for her homely, no talent , ungrateful adopted brat daughter as a favor to secure the part for Christina. It wasn't as bad as it's been touted, it's been tainted because of Christinas vile spewings about her adoptive mother. Christinas character was dropped from the show after a couple of seasons and it's been stated the she was difficult and stubborn in most everything she appeared in. One of those statements came from Myrna Loy. There was a secret storm alright but it wasn't the program. Christina was a cesspool that turned into a cyclone and managed to cause irreparable damage.
