After shooting a few scenes at Desmonds barbers, the shop owner and key barber, Lloyd, closes the shop and disappears. Unable to locate him for weeks, the director begins to write him a letter, in the form of a film. The documentary initially intended to portray the life in the shop hence becomes the letter itself, addressed to Lloyd. The film is simultaneously a portrayal of the life in the shop - an intimate place of encounter for the black community of southeast London, as well as a dialogue between the white female behind the camera and Lloyd, the Jamaican shop owner.
