Mumbai, March 10: Actor Sumeet Vyas was one of earliest to hop onboard the digital medium, with the 2014 show Permanent Roommates. He says he didn't have any idea back then on how it would affect his future but, in retrospect, it seems like the best decision he took.
"Taking up the web back then was one of the best decisions of my life. Even then, when I had taken up the show, I didn't know how it's going to shape up or how people would react to it, or if it's going to make me famous. The idea was to work on something new and to work with new people. Tvf was making interesting short videos and I just wanted to collaborate with newer people and it worked in my favour. I am doing that even today. The whole idea behind doing any show is to find newer things to do as an actor,...

Mumbai, Feb 25: Bollywood producers neither have the money nor talent to cater to audiences who want something beyond the popular and the mainstream, claims actor Abhay Deol. In this context, he notes that Ott platforms have emerged as a good space for independent filmmakers and budding actors to showcase talent.
"Ott platforms are a limited space for content, not at the mercy of physical multiplexes and single screen cinemas that usually get taken over by bigger movies, bigger studio films and producers that don't allow space for newer ideas and talent to be exhibited. While the Ott platforms have to make popular cinema as they should, they have the ability to cater to those who want something outside of the popular and the mainstream. Only they can do that. Bollywood producers can't do that. They don't have the money or even the talent to do that," explains Abhay matter-of-factly.

Mumbai, Feb 18 (Ians) Veteran director Mahesh Manjrekar who has directed the upcoming war drama series, 1962: The War In The Hills, says collaborating with international action director Don Lee has taken the show to the next level. Lee has directed stunts in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise and Star Trek Beyond, among other global hits.
Manjrekar's series is inspired by the 1962 Indo-China war, and showcases how 125 Indian soldiers valiantly fought over 3000 Chinese soldiers at Rezang La and Galwan Valley.
"Don used to write a story of what we were going to shoot, and choreographed it well in advance, which worked fantastically for me. It became easier, and the climax that he shot was brilliant. Don was absolutely prepared but at the same time open to suggestions because he was working on a terrain which was alien to him," said Manjrekar.
The filmmaker recalled: "On the fifth day of shoot...

Actress Mahie Gill feels that she is not very marketable, and adds that the pressure of delivering hits is surely scary for bigger actors.
"I say this about myself, I am not very marketable in the sense that I can run a movie on my shoulders," Mahie told Ians, adding: "This scare is more for bigger actors. It is scary for these actors. It is scary for these people."
Mahie seems to have to secured a position among actors for whom performance matters more than the box office pressure. "If your film doesn't work but if you are appreciated as an actor you keep getting work," she pointed out.
Mahie made her debut in Bollywood in 2003 with "Hawayein" but she became a familiar face playing a new-age Paro in Anurag Kashyap's 2009 release, "Dev.D". Her notable Bollywood roles have been in "Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster", "Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns...
