"Batman: The Brave and the Bold" Trials of the Demon! (TV Episode 2009) Poster

Dee Bradley Baker: Etrigan, Jason Blood, Scarecrow

Quotes

  • Etrigan : You survived the Bat / But your costume's ruined, and we can't have that.

[produces a new outfit for Batman]

  • Batman : Craddock, he's going to betray you!

Asteroth : Give me the horn, human.

James Craddock : First, complete your end of the bargain. Make me immortal.

Asteroth : Very well. Your soul shall never pass from the Earth.

James Craddock : I feel invincible.

Etrigan : You're a foolish man to take that deal. A demon's promise is never real.

  • Scarecrow : You haven't won yet, Batman. By now, the city is intoxicated with fear.

[seeing a large stack of pumpkins with Jay standing atop]

    Scarecrow : Huh?

Golden Age Flash : Trick or treat.

[the pumpkins fall, burying Scarecrow underneath]

Golden Age Flash : And that, sir, is a wrap.

  • Golden Age Flash : This is the last straw, Scarecrow.

Batman : Your Halloween trail of terror dead-ends here.

Scarecrow : [stopping his companion]  Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, Scream Queen. Let's first offer our trick-or-treaters some candy.

[he throws a pumpkin, which explodes]

    Batman : Fear gas.

Scarecrow : [cackling]  Indeed. I've genetically modified this year's entire pumpkin crop to emit my fear gas when heated. Every jack-o-lantern in the city is a ticking time bomb.

Batman : [Jay uses his speed to disperse the gas]  I'll take Scarecrow. You handle the...

    [seeing he's gone]

    Batman : ...pumpkins.

  • Batman : Your crop's gone bad, Scarecrow. Time to cut your losses.

Scarecrow : [attacking with a scythe]  Oh, I intend to. Starting with you.

  • Asteroth : Welcome home, Etrigan.

Etrigan : It is your home now, and you won't break free. Even with those souls, you must get through me.

[he breathes fire at Asteroth, who laughs, unharmed]

Asteroth : Fool. I was born of flame.

  • Jason Blood : And what of Craddock?

Dr. Watson : I daresay he won't be causing any more trouble for humanity. The jury will make sure of that.

Gentleman Ghost : [rising from his grave]  No matter how many centuries I have to wait to face you, Batman... I will find you again, and I will have my revenge!

  • Jason Blood : Gone, gone, form of man. Arise the demon, Etrigan!

  • Jason Blood : [freed from a pyre by Batman]  Thank you, Batman. They think I'm some kind of monster.

Batman : Last time I checked, you were.

Jason Blood : I'm only bonded with Etrigan. We are two different beings. Neither of whom are responsible for these attacks.

  • Batman : We need to keep a low profile until we can learn more about these crimes. Holmes, how many victims so far?

Sherlock Holmes : Tonight makes eight total. All found in catatonic states. Clearly, the result of a supernatural attack.

    Batman : Any leads?

Sherlock Holmes : [taking out a newspaper]  "Seventh victim found on Dorset Street. Villain taunts authorities with note." What do you make of this, detective?

Batman : "The granite demon crumbles in your city's blood frame. When 10:00 she strikes, I'll never sleep again."

Sherlock Holmes : Stumped, I see. Well, luckily, my powers of deduction tell me that it's actually a veiled reference to the gargoyles at Mignola Chapel.

Batman : Actually, "granite demon" is an anagram for "Demon Etrigan", Blood's, uh... . alter ego. "Bloody frame" refers to framing Blood. And I'm sure 10:00 indicates the number of victims.

Jason Blood : [hearing a woman scream]  That sounds like number nine.

  • Batman : The man in the carriage is Jim Craddock. In my time, he's a criminal named Gentleman Ghost.

Sherlock Holmes : Gentleman Jim, the notorious highwayman.

Batman : What I saw Craddock do with that powder horn was no mere robbery.

Jason Blood : [looking at one of the victims]  On the contary, it was indeed robbery. The worst kind. In my library, we can search for reference on the horn you saw.

Batman : Watson, have your police force clear the streets. No one travels alone, understand?

[Watson salutes, and as Batman and Blood leave, Holmes turns to do so, as well]

Dr. Watson : Holmes, wait. You mustn't go off alone.

Sherlock Holmes : My dear Watson, if I'm to solve the case before this Batman, that's exactly what I must do.

  • Jason Blood : Is this what you saw? Wagner's horn. It is just as I feared. Asteroth. Etrigan and Merlin imprisoned him in the underworld three centuries ago.

Batman : "When 10:00 she strikes, I'll never sleep again." Craddock struck a deal with this demon to become immortal, or never sleep, in exchange for ten souls.

Jason Blood : With the strength of the souls, Asteroth could break free from his prison.

Batman : And if he only needs one more, we'd better hurry.

Dr. Watson : That won't be necessary, Batman.

    Batman : You found him?

Dr. Watson : Well, not I, sir. The great Sherlock Holmes located the fiend's hideaway at the old windmill and is on his way there to apprehend him presently.
