Good writing bad plot.
Saving2118 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm trying to understand why NCIS dealt with animal abuse case? It's not their territory and the way they got to the story was stupid too, Accident?? shouldn't it be dealt with inside the military ? Why NCIS? They tried to write a story to show that Gibs wasn't alright but the way to show it was not working , why not have a case that NCIS should investigate , something that is connected to their line of work ,that it's also Gib's world. The drama worked tho, the scenes of Gibs losing it and his team being effected by his action were really good .scenes acting and writing .

It was said that NCIS along with other TV shows signed with Organization that wants to show law activity as it should , meaning less violence and more responsibility from law enforcement personal. Was this episode good example? No the guy was hurt badly and Gibs could have walked away freely only needed to apologise.

Another episode that was pretty good, but it could have been better had there been some stronger writing here. There just wasn't though, and they relied on the shock value or the dog fighting to sell viewers that they were watching something good.

Gibbs standing up for the dogs
jimjames131 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this episode because I feel the same way Gibbs does about dogs. Mean people need to be punished for hurting animals and Gibbs lost it in this episode. It seems that the only reviews lately are by NCIS haters and I disagree with them. Gibbs was struggling with his life over the last several episodes and went after a bully who was killing dogs. So the culprit got what he deserved and Gibbs was willing to accept whatever punishment it would cost him including his job. His team was trying to protect him against the investigator (inspector general ) who always reminds me of a mortician. He never smiles and always looks unhappy. Must hate his job. It worked out in the end though.

Why all the negative reviews?
Carycomic7 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think Gibbs' team exceeded their authority in checking out where that stray dog came from. That over-turned naval ordnance truck might have caused a multi-vehicle pile-up that could've resulted in dozens of injuries...and more than a few collateral fatalities.

As for Gibbs' loss of temper? I've said it before and I'll say it again. Even a tough old USMC warhorse like him has limits to his emotional baggage rack. And he reached that limit with the tragic loss of his goddaughter, Emily Fornell. So, I cannot blame him for basically adopting the attitude that canine lives matter, too.!

Now I'm off to review tonight's episode.

Hint: It's not a problem that NCIS investigates a dogfighting ring
SgtLennon19 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
NCIS does these plots periodically where certain cases are not their jurisdiction but they investigate anyway. So this isn't new.

Once you get past that, this episode is really about how Gibbs tries to control a situation (which is symbolized by pets, the most vulnerable of victims) that he quickly loses control of.

When he beats up the dogfighting ringleader, who's presented so monstrous to the point that he has drowned dogs who've displeased him, the character regains some semble of control that he lost over several episodes (and probably months within the series). In the past few shows, he losts Jacqs, a strong emotional center and potential romantic interest, as well as shouldering the grief of Fornell losing his daughter to a drug overdose. (We could also add in Jimmy losing his wife to COVID.) This is a character defined by his losses, as if it were a score sheet.

It's not surprising that Gibbs gets off scott-free - he's the lead after all. Obviously, NCIS won't end this season even if Vance "firing" him presents a tantalizing endgame for the future, provided that's the direction they're going.

By the end of the episode, that final solitary image of Gibbs and Carla, the newly adopted dog, - two survivors - sitting alone on the couch in the living room, as the camera dollies back is as potent of am image NCIS has crafted in sometime. It has me oddly curious how much they intend to bring this veteran character from the edge, if at all.

And I've not had that feeling watching this show in awhile.

Worst writing and plot ever in series
chris-2203823 March 2021
Love this series. Loved all the characters and their integrity through the years in spite of several weak episodes. Usually it's redeemed at some point. This episode seemed like it was written by a 7 year old girl who knows nothing about the show or the characters at all. It was like a grenade at the stability of this series. Totally undermines the depth of all characters to make some shallow point and doing it badly. Very disappointed. Please don't let the same writer or whoever influenced this episode back into the writing room ever.

Liars
jfnorton-7280918 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What is disturbing about this show is how easily the "team" members lied about the unprovoked assault by Gibbs. More disturbing was their eagerness to destroy evidence to protect Gibbs after pointing out it was a felony. On top of that, upper management and the investigators were also in on excusing the crime.

This show only re-enforces todays narrative about abusive police and them lying to protect each other. There is more to come, but what should occur is for Gibbs to be arrested and his team also arrested, or at a minimum fired, for their lying to the investigator.

The department now knows they are willing to lie to protect themselves and other and are no longer credible. They have become unreliable and impeachable on a witness stand.

Ridiculous
faithless473430 March 2021
Nothing, let me say that again, nothing about this episode was even remotely believable. Nothing about this episode is NCIS. Worst episode ever put up by this show. I finished this episode out of a perverse sense of need for completion. I literally could have written a better episode.

Worst script in 18 years of the show
Rixtur18 April 2021
Did all the writers quit for COVID?? Great writing has always been the hallmark of this great show. There was literally no evidence against that guy except proximity- they could easily have made him innocent & falsely accused, as others of their plots have done. If they just want viewers to let the show close, surely there is a better way..

This episode seemed like a slap in the face to any fans who knew why the actress who played Abby left the series.

Has this dog had it's day?
dvumnr2 May 2021
WTAF just happened? I've been a fan of NCIS since the beginning but this episode is like a slap in the face to all it's fans. I get that sometimes Gibbs and crew sometimes bend the rules to make their cases but usually for the right reasons and they always have the moral high ground. In this episode every single character, all the way to the IG, engaged in nothing less than blatant corruption to cover up Gibb's crime. It doesn't matter how much he felt justified he felt he still committed a crime . They became the very people we expect them to stop. In todays environment this was a very serious mistake.

Gone to the Dogs
spikeluvr19 March 2021
If this were a show about police I would have given it five stars. Even then I don't approve of the cavalier way the agents lied to protect their boss. It gives all agents a bad name by showing the "best" committing the equivalent of perjury. The biggest problem I have is that this show had absolutely nothing to do with the Navy. The show is called Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Not Chicago PD. The show is probably ending next year, anyway, but they could at least make an effort to stay on track. Hollywood must have lost all their best writers for a script like this to be written.

The Dog Incident

Any chance this episode is a take on the "dog incident" between Harmon and Pauley Perrette?

Loved this episode - Watchdog
yasmin-attar27 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Of course it's complete fantasy, especially leaving the agents all together in the hallway so they could get their "stories" straight. They have the courage I lack. But it is an important issue -- cruelty to animals -- and showed NCIS doing the right thing.

When Vance puts Gibbs on suspension, it means he now has time to spend with his new dog !!!

Terrible Episode
buddybradley-226651 April 2021
So Gibbs decides to pursue a dog shooting case with only a flimsy relationship to the Navy. Off to bad start. Then it heads way down hill. After this episode they should all be demoted and suspended. Gibbs should be fired and serve some jail time. The NCIS office should be closed. Show over.

Elderly gent beats up big bloke !!
certainfacts23 March 2021
Main character is way too old to be playing an active field agent, out running people half his age and then beating up bad guys along the way. One can tell he is looking a bit shaky on his feet - appears to have an odd walk, slurring words occasionally.

NCIS does Lassie The Wonder Dog
Smeghed15 May 2021
Worst episode of NCIS ever.

I love this show, the characters the stories.

I love dogs.

So should be pretty awesome. Wrong.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

If they'd have taken this show to the vet's, they'd have put it out of its misery.

Lost the plot
charleshp10 June 2022
Why are NCIS investigating injured dogs? This episode lacks credibility from start to finish. Wins the award for most disappointing. It is apparently ok to beat a a suspect to pulp if they might have mistreated an animal.

Quit already!
rob hendrikx10 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I get it that Gibbs would be mad at someone who seems to have mistreated dogs. I admit that he might have gotten the first punch in. After that he would have been annihilated by a guy that has 40 years and 60 pounds on him. Laughable that Gibbs would put him in the hospital, and not be hit once in return.

Even more laughable is that his team lie to protect him, that Vance gets the opportunity to inform Gibbs about this, etc.

This show is way overdue to be cancelled.

NCIS jumps the shark...again
scubatke25 August 2021
It's time to close the books on this show; it jumped the shark a long time ago. There have been a lot of poor shows mixed with the good ones but this episode was one of the worst; maybe THE worst. Anyone giving this episode a high review either didn't watch it or is experiencing delusions. I'm so done with the social issue episodes, operating outside the law and their jurisdiction and just being over the top in so many different ways.

I guess the writer of this episode hates the show?
koohii18 April 2023
I can't think of any other reason someone would sabotage a show about law enforcement so badly.

Back when "The Practice" was a show, they had an episode about police torturing a suspect. That was the last episode of the show to feature the police, because that episode sabotaged not only the police, but also the District Attorney's office by condoning a gross violation of the constitution. The DA even said "So What?" That was when the show turned into a soft pilot for Boston Legal--it couldn't be about a law firm defending people anymore.

Here, Gibbs was clearly violating... just about everything. But that the team tried to back him, lied for him, and were ready to destroy evidence, shows that they are not interested in Justice or Law Enforcement, but in The Blue Line.

It's not about loyalty to your boss or your team, it's about obeying your oath to defend against all enemies: Foreign and Domestic. This episode makes the whole organization Domestic Enemies of the Constitution of the United States.

By all rights, Gibbs shouldn't be on indefinite suspension, but in prison. No matter how you feel about animal abuse (I'm very much opposed) and animal abusers, Gibbs crossed a line, violated the law, and became a criminal himself.

Will never watch
mylittlekeeshka26 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Love NCIS have watched many episodes nultiple times and even looked up specific scenes when I needed a good laugh, but this episode made me want to physically throw up.

Will never watch this episode again, even when I'm streaming, I make a point of skipping this episode. Wish there was a way to block it all together.

The writers should be ashamed for taking the scene with the dead dog that far. There was no reason to have that image on screen. We all knew this would be the last season for Mark Harmon but there were so many better ways to send him off then having to put viewers something like this.
