A few days ago, we said we really hoped to see new games to add to our Nintendo Switch libraries during Nintendo's latest Direct. Nintendo delivered in a Big way! Come inside for more!
You can't say Nintendo doesn't play nice with 3rd party gamers anymore. You can't even say that Nintendo doesn't host any edgy games anymore. During Wednesday's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo made sure that they bucked any and all stereotypes by announcing a copious amount of games that ranged anywhere between the kid friendly and the Bethesda violent.
Words can't describe how huge it is that Bethesda is set to release Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus for Nintendo Switch, but we're going to try. It was already pretty cool that we were getting Skyrim on November 17, and Doom was just a matter of time, but neither compare to the Wolfenstein franchise. This is a franchise that is bloody and controversial,...

Four full nights of concerts, 24 must-see performers and a staggering 137 songs: Take pity on the video editors who had to whittle all this down into a three-hour ABC special.
We’ll get the chance to see the result of their heroic work Wednesday night on Cma Fest: The Music Event of the Summer, co-hosted by Thomas Rhett and Kelsea Ballerini.
The concerts, held during Nashville’s annual Cma Fest in June, are arguably the most coveted performance slots in country music, and all the artists brought their A-games to the crowd of 50,000. The televised distillation will feature a total of 28 performances,...

Baywatch was the most popular internationally syndicated TV series of the 1990s. And even though the drama about Southern California lifeguards often unfolded like self-parody — its appeal rested mainly on a swimsuit-clad Pamela Anderson running down the beach in slow motion and David Hasselhoff’s questionable emoting — it took itself as seriously as a show based on eye candy could.
This year’s movie version of Baywatch knows better than to do that. It’s consciously a comedy (the director, Seth Gordon, has given us Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses and TV’s The Goldbergs). And according to Zac Efron, one of the film’s stars, there are numerous other improvements.
“The movie has a little more to it,” Efron, 29, says during a chat on the Universal Studios backlot just outside Los Angeles.

Girl Meets World was an exciting way to bring back its predecessor, Boy Meets World. The original television show aired on ABC Network from 1993 until 2000. The show followed the lives of a group of kids from middle school through high school to college and marriage as they handled life’s challenges of growing up. Ben Savage played Cory Matthews. Cory married his friend from middle school, Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fisher). Along the way, they were mentored by older people including their teacher, George Feeny (William Daniels) and made their way in this coming-of-age program. Disney Channel uniquely reprised Boy

“30 Rock” was a show rich with odd and diverse sorts; its ensemble included a startingly large number of Academy Award winners/nominees (at least six! And don’t even get us started on the Emmy champs!). This odd collection of characters, in many respects, remain unforgettable even years after the show’s end. Ranking the characters who appeared in three or more episodes wasn’t easy. But by following the ethos established by the show, it also wasn’t hard.

This past weekend I tabled Flame Con 2 at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott Hotel with my friend and collaborator Robby Barrett. We premiered our new comic, Saturn’s Call. It’s about a group of witchy queer kids who are trying to come together to protect each other, so obviously Flame Con was the perfect venue to debut this comic.
For those of you unfamiliar, Flame Con is New York City’s first Lgbtq comic convention organized by Geeks Out. The show premiered back in spring of 2015 at the Grand Prospect Hall for one day only after a successful Kickstarter campaign helped spread the word and launch the show. Flame Con was such an immediate hit that not only was quickly confirmed that they would be back in 2016, but that the show would go from one day to two and move to a larger venue. That’s a very impressive feat.

I’ve been a fan of JRPGs since childhood. Like so many fans of the genre, I had my first delightful experiences with the Final Fantasy series as a preteen and, since then, haven’t ever really been able to (or wanted to!) shed my self-applied label of “anime trash.” But since their peak in the ’90s and early 2000s, I’ve had to watch my beloved JRPGs plummet from relevance and take one critical drubbing after another. I spent a lot of time asking myself questions as I grew out of adolescence and into adulthood: Has our national taste in games changed? Do I just have bad taste? Are the games really that bad? Well, I might not have the definitive answer to these questions (although I’m sure plenty of people would be happy to tell me that I have bad taste), but I will say one thing — the Jrpg has absolutely stagnated,...

If you don’t know who the Pistol Shrimps are, you’re going to want to very soon.
Brent Hodge’s new documentary “The Pistol Shrimps” follows the eponymous all-women recreational basketball team, led by players like Aubrey Plaza, model/actress Melissa Stetten, comedian Molly Hawkey (who you may know as “‘The Bachelor’s oldest-ever contestant”) and many other incredible players just might be one of the funnest and funniest films of the year. During the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the laughs never slowed, but it also became apparent that this documentary isn’t about basketball. It’s about what basketball means and can do for these women as individuals and as a group of friends, empowering them, inspiring them, encouraging them and much more.
After screening Wednesday night at The Theatre at Ace Hotel, the Shrimps, their coaches, their announcers and director Hodge sat down for a Q&A. Like their team name implies — and they would suggest to look up what a pistol shrimp is — each woman’s personality popped like the crack of a pistol shrimp claw. They laughed at many of the high jinks that unfolded the season depicted in the doc, but also got real about how, no matter the small scale, the team is vastly important to them. That’s something that’s also evident in the documentary, as the film makes sure to highlight many of the team members, their personalities and how the team affects their lives.

The team itself came together in a rather interesting way. According to the film, it was a bit tough to get the league together, as there wasn’t really a league at all before they came along. In the Q&A, Shrimp Amanda Lund explained how the struggles of making a web series sparked the idea in the first place. “I remember the moment when Maria [Blasucci] realized she needed to start a sports team. We had made this web series ‘Ghost Ghirls’ that no one was watching. So we made our own flyers and started flyering in the streets, saying, ‘You got ghosts? Watch this web series.’ So we were handing out these flyers and Maria was like, ‘This is so fun being out and doing an activity.’ And then she was like, ‘I’m going to start a sports team.’”
But why basketball? Recounting a rather momentous and crazy achievement in her early life, Shrimp founder Blasucci said, “I used to play in grade school and one time, I was dribbling the ball in the park league on the Pacific Palisades Sparks and I lost my shoe at halfcourt as I was dribbling the ball. And I went to shoot the basket and I made it, but my shoe was still at halfcourt. It was a real whirlwind.”
Unfortunately, the ragtag group didn’t start off with success, with only a few members ever having played the sport, let alone in an organized way, and others not entirely knowing how the sport works. Originally, they came together with a shared sense of trash talking and putting down their haters to offset this lack of success. But during the documented season, the Shrimps went on to win the championship.
This did, however, come at a cost to their original skills. One of the Shrimps said, “I think it goes to the root of self confidence and when you don’t have a lot of self confidence, it’s very easy to talk trash. So when we finally got the skills, the trash talking went away. It’s like when you don’t dress for the job you have, you dress for the job you want and so we talked trash when we couldn’t play basketball.”

After seeing the original trash talking chemistry, filmmaker Hodge knew he had to make a movie about them, telling the crowd, “One of my friends went to the games and he was like, ‘Dude, this whole thing’s a film. There’s a coach with a unicorn costume on, you’ve got to film this.’ And then we just started filming.”
He even theorized that the crew is why they won, explaining that “this is the only season you guys have won, so we’re like your lucky charm. And I don’t think we would’ve had a film unless they won.” Shrimp Molly Hawkey pleaded, “I was wondering if you could come out to the rest of our seasons because we didn’t do so well this season.” This past season, the Shrimps won only three games and lost seven.
But it wasn’t always easy for Shrimps. There were a lot of antics and even drama between teams during the season, exemplified in the documentary when Aubrey Plaza tore her Acl playing undercover in a second game on her sister’s team. The recovery, which Plaza described as taking “a couple steps forward, a bunch of steps backwards and I’m trying to just get forward again,” and the taste of the other team led her to test the market.
“I’m going to be playing for the Spice Squirrels in the fall. After my injury, I had a lot of time off and I just decided to test free agency,” she said. “I had to make the best choice for my family and my basketball career. And I just felt like the Spice Squirrels have a lot to offer me.”
Toward the end of the Q&A, founder Blasucci touched on an empowering point about the team, an aspect that was the documentary’s most lasting impression.
“I went to an all girls high school and I learned that girls can be the best of friends if they allow themselves to kind of let go of all the claw,” she said. “You know, ‘Ah, I need to get ahead of you!’ If you could just let that go, you can have such deep relationships with girls and I feel that with all of you girls and I, at no point, ever feel jealous or envious or anything. I just feel 100% support and I feel grateful and it’s wonderful. I suggest any girl out there that doesn’t have a tight group of girlfriends to really search for that, because as hard as it may be, you find these people that are so important to you and I feel that with all of these girls and I’m really grateful.”

Twenty years ago, the Shakespeare in Love star had Hollywood at his feet – then he all but disappeared. So what happened?
Joseph Fiennes is currently specialising in second acts. This weekend he is in Cannes to promote his film The Last Race, the unofficial Chinese-made sequel to Chariots of Fire. Fiennes plays Eric Liddell, the Flying Scotsman who in 1924 famously refused to run on an Olympic Sunday because of his religious beliefs. The film is concerned with the little-known years after that in which Liddell gave up on sporting fame to become a Christian missionary in China.
To open that film, Fiennes is taking a couple of days away from rehearsing the comparable afterlife of that other Boy’s Own legend, Lawrence of Arabia. Fiennes takes the lead in Adrian Noble’s Chichester Festival revival of Terence Rattigan’s play Ross, which finds Lawrence home from the desert after something...

1. "Mad Max: Fury Road": Ace winner Margaret Sixel became the ultimate problem solver in cutting husband George Miller's ambitious return to his post-apocalyptic wasteland. It was rhythmically challenging going from intense action to slower, more poetic moments. But the centerpiece is the 18-minute climactic race in the desert landscape of southwest Africa between the War Rig and War Boy's vehicles. Miller's mandate was to center the frame at all times, and Sixel had to cut fast yet maintain a seamless, continuous action so we're never confused. The result is a powerful and immersive visual masterpiece. Read More: "How They Edited the Oscar-Nominated 'Mad Max: Fury Road'" 2. "The Big Short": Hank Corwin, the other Ace winner, created just the right frantic mood in conveying Adam McKay's brilliant black comedy about the bursting of the housing market in 2008. After many months of speculation, the full list of this year's Oscar nominees have been announced - just minutes after the reveal of the death of beloved thespian Alan Rickman.
"The Revenant" led the field with twelve nominations followed by "Mad Max: Fury Road" with ten and "The Martian" with seven. Next were "Spotlight" and "Carol" with six nominations; "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "The Big Short" and "Bridge Of Spies" got five; "Room" and "The Danish Girl" nabbed four; "Sicario," "Brooklyn" and "The Hateful Eight" scored three; and "Steve Jobs" and "Ex Machina" nabbed two.
Surprises? "Creed" and "Joy" scored only one nomination each for Stallone's and Lawrence's performances respectively. No Ridley Scott for director, Quentin Tarantino or Aaron Sorkin for screenplay, Charlize Theron for best actress, "Carol" for best picture, "See You Again" for best song, and of course - the distinct lack of racial diversity. Here's the list in full.

Last Thursday, Fyodor Pavlov, a person I’m honored to call a friend, had the opening reception for his exhibition at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art.Titled Carpe Noctem: Eros to Thanatos, the exhibition celebrates the interlocking themes of queer desire, sex, myth and death. The opening reception featured not only wine and cheese, but music and burlesque performances. It was an evening of celebrating queer art in many forms, and something that the comic book industry should be aware of.
Fyodor is a queer artist, a Russian immigrant, and a New Yorker. His art has been commissioned both privately and commercially. Additionally, he works on comics including Baritarian Boy co-created with his partner Lawrence Gullo and Bash Back, his current web comic co-created both his partner and with writer Kelsey Hercs.

My boy Marvin Haynes and I just knew we were going to get caught, go to jail if lucky, get shot if not.
Nassau County in Long Island New York once (maybe still) had the highest paid police force in the country. Some of the homes in the Five Towns area of the county were so grand as a young child I thought they were department stores. That highly paid police force made sure nary a worry would the residents of Inwood, Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, and Hewlett have.
There was very little crime in Nassau County and no black people. The only place you would see people of color in Five Towns were the shopping malls or the cotton fields. Cotton fields? Can’t say I ever saw them, but I was born free.

Warner Bros. just can’t get a grip on “Suicide Squad.” Like the veritable little Dutch Boy sticking their finger in the dam, each plugged leak results in three more down the line. The latest tidbit comes courtesy of Ingrid Kleinig, stunt double to Margot Robbie. While Kleinig's Instagram account has been deleted, screengrabs are forever. The infamous Ace Chemicals that turned the Joker into the psychopath we all know and love/fear. At least in some of his origin stories. For today’s comic book readers, there’s an appetite for one flavor of Batman: brooding, angry, single-minded and largely one-dimensional. But for those of an earlier generation where the interpretation of Batman varied by editor and medium, there are other varieties to tickle the fancy and entertain the soul. After years of the unrelentingly grim animated fare, Cartoon Network and Warner Animation came up with a breath of fresh air in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. James Tucker and Michael Jelenic developed this series to mimic the days of Batman being a premier hero and collaborator, operating in a bright, colorful world filled with costumed heroes and crazy villains.
The show lasted three seasons and 65 wonderful episodes and late in 2014, Warner Archive finally released Batman: The Brave and the Bold: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray. There are 26 gloriously goofy half-hour episodes here and they are...

American Horror Story villain Dandy is so wildly entertaining, it's almost a distraction from the rest of the show...
This review contains spoilers.
4.9 Tupperware Party Massacre
As American Horror Story gains traction and propels itself towards a season finale like an out-of-control carnival ride, it feels as though there's a certain loss of poise. Perhaps it's due to the fact that our hero, Jimmy, is an aimless drunk who is distracted by grief and the gigantic bosoms of the side show's new fat lady. Perhaps that's due to the fact that Stanley and Elsa's complicated plot to capture and decapitate the twins continues to run into complications. Perhaps it's due to the fact that the show's biggest villain, Dandy, is so wildly entertaining that it's distracting from the rest of the show.

Johnny Depp says he's liberated himself from a longtime personal burden of often caring too much about his acting by following the artistic philosophy of the late Marlon Brando. In doing so, he has no fear to take on projects that critics - or even himself - might otherwise poo-poo, although he admits that his busy career has him dashing at a "schizophrenic" pace. "What is really satisfying is, like Marlon, getting to that place where he just didn't give a f---," Depp, 51, told Details magazine in its December issue for a story that dubs the musician and celebrity maverick "the anti-leading man.

American Horror Story: Freak Show, “Pink Cupcakes” opens with Stanley (Denis O’Hare) dreaming about the “Night of Discovery” at the American Morbidity Museum (aka Philadelphia’s Mütter Museum). Though it’s his dream, he’s still not singled out for recognition, which Maggie (Emma Roberts) tells him not to be too surprised about.
American Horror Story: Freak Show Recap
In real time, Stanley and Maggie are still in Jupiter. He’s scheming about how exactly he’d be able to pull off transporting the freaks up to Philadelphia. Maggie doesn’t want to have any part in murdering anyone, though she promises to stay on the inside. Maggie also advises Stanley to “put some lead in your loafers. The only thing people hate more in Jupiter than freaks are poofs.”
At the Motts residence, Gloria (Francs Conroy) comes downstairs to the dining room to find Dora (Patti Labelle) dead.

Kurt Cobain created a mixtape in the late 80s that’s been rediscovered on the Internet with fans stating that it gives a deeper look into the Nirvana frontman’s psyche.
Kurt Cobain 'Montage Of Heck'
Cobain's "Montage of Heck" has found some new life online over the past few days. It contains snippets from his personal record collection and the radio, band demos that wound up on Nirvana albums as well as sounds Cobain recorded and/or created – including urinating into a toilet and the toilet's flush. It also includes bits of dialogue from vintage TV shows and movies, as well as from conversations with his friends.
There's an 8-minute mono version of the mixtape, as well as a 36-minute full-length version.

Here we are again after the Golden Globes, Mike Fleming and Anita Busch taking on the task of play by play during the most wide-open Oscar race we can remember. Even on the party circuit, industry insiders who usually have a grasp of who’ll walk away with Oscars were evenly torn between Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D masterpiece Gravity and Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave. Then again, there were so many terrific films that got Best Picture nominations, and all of them have at least a puncher’s chance at an upset. Related: Oscars: Pete Hammond’s Absolute Final Predictions That includes American Hustle, where David O Russell co-wrote the Best Original Script nominee with Eric Warren Singer and got tour de force performances and nominations for Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Perfs so strong there was no room on the nomination roster for perennial Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner.

My favourite books of 2013 are Drama High (Riverhead) by Michael Sokolove, Sea Creatures (Turnaround) by Susanna Daniel, and & Sons (Harper Collins) by David Gilbert. Drama High is incredibly smart, moving non-fiction about an American drama teacher who for four decades coaxed sophisticated and nuanced theatrical performances out of teenage students who weren't privileged or otherwise remarkable and in so doing, changed their conceptions of what they could do with their lives. If you’re in striking distance of Colchester, Essex next Saturday, 7th September, then you really need to get yourself into Britain’s oldest recorded town to witness the 2013 Invasion!
The result of hard work by Kerrie Williams and Simon Leonard, Invasion is a charitable event that supports St Helena Hospice and the Colchester Hospitals Charity, and will feature an impressively large gathering of television and film characters. From a squadron of Colonial Marines (from Aliens) to the Ghostbusters, from slasher king Jason Vorhees to dragon queen Daenerys Stormborn from Game of Thrones, there will be plenty of photo opportunities for fans, providing they can run the gauntlet of Imperial Stormtroopers and other denizens of the Star Wars universe.
As well as the characters, there are special guests in the form of Alan Flyng, Ralph Morse, Pam Rose and Nick Joseph, all...

Any good fan girl (or guy!) knows this debate is about so much more than just the hits. There’s things like group appearance, harmonies, music videos and dance moves to consider. For the next week, each day all the bands listed below will be competing in various categories. While an EW writer will be advocating for each,...

Boy, make $400 million at the box office and everyone wants to hop on your franchise. Young Adult adaptation "The Hunger Games" hit last year and it hit big, making a bigger star of Jennifer Lawrence and establishing a giant money magnet for Lionsgate in the process. The sequels were immediately set up with Lawrence and co-stars Woody Harrelson and Josh Hutcherson returning, with director Francis Lawrence at the helm. Then Philip Seymour Hoffman joined the cast of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," which turned my head. I wasn't a fan of the first film but I'm somehow anticipating the sequel,...

The former ‘Glee’ star bravely came out as gay to the world during an interview in the Philippines on June 2. Good for you, Charice!
The singer Charice officially came out on June 2 in her homeland of the Philippines. The 21-year-old singer courageously faced a question about her sexuality while on “The Buzz,” a Filipino television show hosted by Boy Abunda, and did not back down from the truth.
Charice Comes Out As Gay
“Opo, tomboy po ako,” Charice told Boy — which means, “Yes, I’m a lesbian” — when he asked if the rumors about her being a lesbian were true. It was a huge moment for the singer, who up until that point had remained silent on questions about her sexuality.
“Now I feel free,” Charice said in her native language. “I can go out of the house without fear and certain that I’m not stepping on anybody’s toe.

Previously on Chicago Fire Shay asked Severide to make a baby with her. He said yes only to get sidetracked by a pesky case involving false accusations of sexual assault. Mills imperiused Dawson into being his girlfriend and agreeing to move in with him. Dawson decided to tell Mills that Boden boffed his mother back when Mills was just a wee babe. Dirty cop Voight got out of jail, became Antonio’s boss and made everyone’s skin crawl. Casey and Hallie brought sexy back and were happy again until she got herself burned up in a fire.
What a difference a few weeks makes. Only a short time ago the squad was yucking it up in the meeting room while a big guy in a little coat taught them the do’s and don’ts of sexual harassment and this week Herrmann is...

Keita Takahashi's "Tenya Wanya Weens" (he calls it a party game) doesn't yet have a platform (maybe the 360? iOS is nice--but it might not even come out beyond Gdc), and it was played using a 16-button controller that may or may not ship with the final game, but however it shakes out, the game Edge describes during their hands-on at Gdc sounds like something we should all get our hands on right now.
Takahashi revealed his two-player (commissioned by U.K. social developer Wild Rumpus) game during a Gdc party where players got to punch away at "Tenya Wanya Teens'" 16-button controller to command a teen who must follow the orders of a talking parrot without making a fool of himself in front of his girlfriend.
The gameplay is based on pressing color-coded buttons to make your onscreen character execute one of the preset moves. Oh, and the Led-lit...

Last month, “Katamari Damacy” and “Noby Noby Boy” creator Keita Takahashi teased that his next game would be developed in conjunction with the Wild Rumpus -- a British group devoted to hosting events and tournaments for indie multiplayer games -- and debuted at Gdc.
The Game Developers Conference isn’t until next week, but a few juicy morsels on the mystery game are available. For one, it’s called “Tenya Wanya Teens,” and it’s about growing up. “It’s a game about trying desperately to not say or do the wrong thing at the wrong time — that universal struggle to maintain the façade of normality during the awkward transition from child- to adulthood,” reads the game’s description on Venus Patrol.
It’s a two-player party game, apparently, that calls for specialized, custom-made 16-button gamepads.
