Not sure how many Broadway fans will get the hockey reference, but Neil Patrick Harris has made it a hat trick and agreed to host the upcoming Tony Awards for the third time in four years. Nph is good at it, and it is nice that Broadway has stability on the hosting front. I’m already wondering what will happen late this year when AMPAS starts looking around again for an Oscar host. Billy Crystal certainly stopped the bleeding by stepping in after Eddie Murphy dropped out along with producer Brett Ratner, but Crystal’s usual schtick felt dated to me. The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards falls on the perfect day in Hollywood with sunny skies and moderate summer temperatures for optimal red carpet sauntering.
Jimmy Fallon -- sans Roots, alas -- will bring his wacky and musical brand of comedy and perhaps get help from guest presenters as host for TV's biggest night.
The awards could last three-plus hours, so if you need to switch over to "Mad Men" or "True Blood," we'll still be here to recap every buzzworthy or mundane highlight for you. (All times listed are Eastern.)
Let's begin:
8:00 p.m. - This is Hanh Nguyen, on first shift for the Emmys live blog (typos and all). Jimmy Fallon does a "Glee"-centric fund raising skit for the Gleeks so they can atttend the Emmys. How are we feeling about Lea Michele and her bangs. They kiss up to Tina Fey and very clearly diss...

Neil Patrick Harris can add one more Emmy nomination to his list this year: The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has acknowledged that it neglected to mention Harris in the special-class program category for his hosting gig at the Tonys.
While award show hosts once had their own category (Hugh Jackman, for example, won for his performance as the Tonys host in 2005), the hosts are now wrapped up in a composite award for the show overall. The 63rd Annual Tony Awards' executive producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss were listed as contenders when nominations were announced last month, but Harris was left out in the Emmy cold for his role in the show. The Academy amended its previous announcement Tuesday after 'L.A. Times'' awards blog Gold Derby pointed out the oversight.
