Vic meets with Doctor Chalmers, who worked with Eleanor at STAR Labs years ago. Chalmers explains that she left STAR Labs because she wanted to heal people but they wanted to create weapons programs, and how many of her former patients were disguised and turned into weapons. Vic asks if synthetic skin could be an option for him, and Chalmers examines Vic and admits that she was surprise when Silas chose the cybertech for Vic instead of coming to her. She admires Silas' tech, and Vic tells her what he can do. Chalmers says that to apply the synthetic skin, Vic's cybertech would have to be completely removed, including Grid.
Vic considers what Chalmers is saying, and then asks how soon she could do it if he agreed. Chalmers says that it could be an overnight procedure, but tells Vic that it isn't a decision he should take lightly. She asks if he's talked to Silas, and Vic explains that Eleanor would want it for him and he doesn't care what Silas thinks. Chalmers tells Vic that the procedure will be easier with a love one at his side.
At the manor, Cliff tells Jane that he sold her records. She isn't happy with the news, and he explains how he lost his own money gambling online. Jane tells him to get her records back, and then starts choking. Cliff wants to do the Heimlich maneuver on her, and Jane waves him back and pulls a cloth with the Sisterhood's sigil on it. Wally figures that it's a test, as Rita comes in with the mail. He shows Laura his power by manifesting a beachball from his sketches of the beach, and Laura asks Wally if he can apply his ability to artillery. When Wally says that he can, Laura stamps his file with "Weapon" and dismisses him.
A disappointed Wally leaves, and Rita points out that Wally was just a boy. Laura says that wars don't fight themselves, and it's not the same carefree world that it was in 1917, and they have to make difficult choices to keep their country safe. Rita seemingly accepts that and tells Laura that the Sisterhood is meeting at the Salon that night to workshop a new piece, and they all miss Laura and wish she'd be there. Rita asks if Laura misses making art and expressing herself. Laura says that she has a higher calling now and points out that Rita gave up her "calling" when she found safety with the Sisterhood. Rita says that they're Laura's coterie as well. Laura assures Rita that she'll never forget that they had lives before joining the Bureau, and tells Rita to send in the next recruit, on her way out. As Rita goes, she secretly puts a letter in Laura's case.
As Rita walks down the hallway, she comes to Malcolm and he figures that Laura said now. Rita admits that she's getting worried about Laura, and they both agree that Laura has been sour for 15 years. She reminds Malcolm that Laura once saved all of their souls, and it's their turn to save hers. Malcolm concedes that Rita might be right and dances with her, then they step aside as soldiers march down the hallway past them. The couple hold hands, then snap to attention when they notice a soldier watching them.
In the present, Laura knocks on the door of Larry's chamber until he wakes up. She complains about him loafing about, and says they're about to be confronted by an inconceivable threat. Larry sees the maggot on the floor and yells to Laura to give him a minute. Laura sees the maggot and asks what it is, and he explains enough for her to realize it came out of him. He waters it and it twitches, and suggests he's dealing with some kind of space parasite when he went to the negative nebula. Laura suggests that he burn it, and join the group in the great room after he does.
Jane goes to Kay's room in the Underground and finds her sobbing beneath the comforter. Kay finally says that someone stole her bike. He finally drops it on the ground and walks away, then curses to himself and goes back with a PBJ and water bottle for the maggot. Larry leaves and wonders what's wrong with him, goes back, and puts his scarf around the maggot to keep it warm. Larry tells the parasite that it's better off without him, and a fog flows through the woods. He figures that it can't be good and walks off.
Elsewhere in a forest, Roni gets a Morse code message on her transmitter asking if she misses him. She figures that it's Vic and calls him on her walkie-talkie, and he admits that he used Grid to find her. Roni asks what he wants, and Vic tells her that she was right about him. Vic assures Roni that she won't have to worry about STAR anymore and he's considering having his cybertech taken out. She says that they all want change, and sometimes change comes from the inside, and he taught her that. Roni says that his cybertech gives him power when they're demanding justice, Roni tells him that he's a more effective agent of change as Cyborg then as Vic, and asks if he wants change or happiness
Vic says that he's trusting himself like Roni told him to do, and their signal starts to break up. Roni tells Vic to do what he's got to do, and maybe she'll see him on the other side.
At the house, Cliff tries to warm up Rory's baby and makes a mess of things. He insists that he's not thinking about Ginger or online gambling, then picks up Clara's credit card .The smoke alarm goes off and Rory starts crying, and Cliff breaks the smoke alarm. In 1949, Wilhelm Hodges finds Laura in the cafeteria. He says that they set a new recruitment record, and Laura smugly points out that she's the one responsible. When Wilhelm warns her that she doesn't have what it takes to leader the Bureau. Laura tells him that she's been a loyal and industrious part of the Bureau for 35 years, and Wilhelm points out that she's kept her friends hidden in the basement, and she's more worried about protecting her friends then what's actually at risk. She says that does her job will and with moral integrity, and the Sisterhood members are unsuited for war and pacifists. Wilhelm asks Laura what that makes her, and says that the "freaks" are an untapped resource and Laura could be as well. He advises Laura to use her friends as an opportunity, and says that important people are watching her. Wilhelm leaves, and Laura snarls in frustration. She finds Rita's note in her book, with the SISTERHOOD sigil.
Rita and Malcolm go into the salon, put on masks of each others's faces, and they dance and recite gibberish. When they're done, Rita says that they can subvert cultural trends. Sachiko angrily says that the world doesn't need an examination of frivolity by a band of aging troubadours, and the world needs an enema. She insists that they should embrace their powers and commit to their destiny, and they vote against it because of dull inertia. Rita exclaims that it's too dangerous, and Lloyd snickers when Rita says that their goal is to make the world a better place.
Lloyd points out that the world has only become worse since they've been around, and they've stood around and watched the Bureau embrace normalcies, and they just kept their heads down. He says that they're all complicit, and Malcolm suggests the Eternal Flagellation. Rita warns that Laura will never go along with it, and Sachiko figures that if it's a difficult choice between them and the Bureau for Laura, Laura is already gone. Shelley and Holly nod in agreement.
In the present, Sachiko sits in a nest and yells that it's time.
Chalmers and her team prepare to remove Vic' cybertech. The Sisterhood sigil appears on a screen and only Vic notices.
Jane goes to see Kay in the latter's room and shows the girl a new pair of shoes that she got her. She sets them down and says that she found out what happened to Kay's bike, and claims that Personas borrowed it and lost it, and it was all a big mistake. Kay angrily says they both know it's bullshit, and the door slams in Jane's face. Shelley's fog appears in the hallway.
At Clara's house in the garage, Cliff is talking to Ginger on his laptop, saying how great a grandpa he was. The fog pours under the garage door, and his hands suddenly go up above his head.
In the operating room, Vic's hands go up the same way.
The fog sweeps over Jane, and she appears in a room with Cliff and Vic. Their arms are all up, and they dance.
Laura is sealing the kitchen fireplace with cardboard and duct tape. Larry comes in and says that he came in through the front door, and Laura goes to seal it. The fog pours in and sweeps over both of them.
In the past at the salon, the Sisterhood are going over blueprints when Laura comes in and they all hug her. Shelley tells Laura that they're finally doing the Eternal Flagellation, and they dance.

In 1949, Laura tells the Sisterhood that she's proud of them for standing by each other, no matter how far she drifted away from them. In the present, Laura finds herself holding a rifle. In 1949, the soldiers march into the salon and Malcolm turns invisible. The soldiers grab the Sisterhood, and Laura yells that there's no need for force because the Sisterhood are pacifists. Wilhelm comes in and tells Laura that he's been looking forward to it for years. He welcomes the Sisterhood to the Bureau's Meta-Weapons division. When Shelley says that they'll never fight for the Bureau, Wilhelm tells Laura that she's up and gives her a clipboard with the Sisterhood's files on it. She stamps each one as a Weapon.
In the present, Laura does the same thing to the team, forced into the same positions as the Sisterhood in 1949. In 1949, Rita asks how Laura could do it to them. Laura orders Rita on her knees, and Rita refuses. Malcolm appears and tells Laura to stop it. He appears in the present as well, and in the past Wall--now a soldier-jams his electro-gun into Malcolm's chest. Malcolm collapses and Rita catches him, pulls off his mask to confirm that he's dead, and is pulled away by the soldiers. She opens his chest cage to reveal that the canary in it is also dead, takes out her token, and glares at Laura as her face melts. Rita turns into a blob and disappears.
In the present, "Malcolm" removes his mask to reveal that he's Rita. She tells the fog that Laura is ready, and the Fog transports all of them to the woods. The Sisterhood and the cage are in there, and a giant bird egg is in the cage. A giant bird with Malcolm's face emerges, and Rita tells Laura that she killed Malcolm and now she must set her free. Laura insists she didn't kill anyone and had a good reason for everything she did. Rita says that Laura was the evil one, and Laura insists she's not evil. When Shelley says that they suffered for 70 years in an evil cause, Laura insists that Shelley is wrong and she made an oath to the Bureau.
Malcolm flutters wildly, and Rita tells Laura that they're offering her a chance to atone. Laura says that she atoned that day by making useful agents of the Sisterhood. Malcolm breaks out of the cage and divided into hundreds of birds, flying into the sky. Laura turns into a bird and joins them, Cliff wonders if that was the Eternal Flagellation, and Sachiko says that it was the prologue to the reckoning. Lloyd says that it's only bad if they are.
The Sisterhood teleports away. Birds fly down and slam into each of the team, and they disappear in bursts of light.
