Gunmen: Mario Van Peebles fondly recalls working with Christopher Lambert on underrated 90s actioner
The other day, one of our writers sat down with Mario Van Peebles to talk about his upcoming spiritual sequel to Posse, Outlaw Posse. In the pretty awesome conversation, we asked Mario about what we consider a pretty underrated movie of his, Gunmen. This 1994 action flick paired him with Christopher Lambert, with an all-star cast that included Denis Leary as the film’s villain, Patrick Stewart, and nineties dream girl Brenda Bakke, as well as 90s rappers like Big Daddy Kane, Eric B, Rakim, Doctor Dre and Ed Lover – who all played themselves. It’s a tough movie to find these days, but Peebles had fond memories of what they were trying to accomplish with it.
“Gunmen tips a hat to The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. My character, Christophe’s character, and the other character have a piece of the puzzle as to where the cachet of gold is.

Lately, we at JoBlo have been championing the collection of physical media in the face of certain movies that have been getting somewhat lost due to extremely limited availability. This is especially an issue for those who partake in a digital collection of movies, which has the potential of disappearing despite purchasing them. However, there are great distributors like Vinegar Syndrome and Arrow Video that have done a fantastic job remastering rare movies for Blu-ray releases. The Mvp Rewind Collection has recently announced that the Albert Pyun action-thriller, Mean Guns, starring Christopher Lambert, Ice-t, Michael Halsey, Deborah Van Valkenburgh and Tina Cote is set for a Blu-ray release on April 9.
The plot description, courtesy of Blu-ray.com, reads,
“The world’s most dangerous criminals are summoned to a new prison on the eve before its grand opening by Moon, the ruthless leader of the world’s most powerful crime syndicate.

After the emotionally charged and painful last episode, the third episode of the third season of “Superman & Lois” deals with the immediate aftermath of the discovery that Lois has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive inflammatory breast cancer. The nefarious Bruno Mannheim’s plans affect both Smallville and Metropolis, as we see Lana and Henry Irons getting ambushed by Onomatopoeia in the mayor’s office while investigating the murder of Mayor Dean (killed by the same perp). After Clark confronts Bruno regarding his involvement in Atom Man’s current predicament of gaining superpowers, the former manages to gaslight Superman to some extent. We also saw Lois valiantly talk Judge Reagan out of committing suicide, as the latter feared for her life being pinched by Bruno’s men to assist in their dirty deeds. At the same time, Lois lets Clark and the kids know the heartbreaking truth of her being diagnosed with cancer,...

Teen drama One Tree Hill had a loyal fanbase, but one person who has no interest in revisiting the show is star Chad Michael Murray, who played main character Lucas Scott on the series, which aired on The WB and The CW between 2003 and 2012.
During a panel at Christmas Con, Chad Michael Murray discussed what has undoubtedly been his biggest success–although he doesn’t necessarily keep it too close to his heart. “It’s a section of my life that I deleted. A lot of development, a lot of growth as a human being, and just deleted so much of it.” Murray tried to break it down as best he could, saying, “I think we have hard drives, right? I’m probably like, you know when you get an iPhone that holds like 264 gigs: I’m down on a 32 gig phone because of old information, so booting everything up....

Based on the popular Masud Rana novels written by late novelist Qazi Anwar Hussain, top Bangladeshi actor Abm Sumon stars as secret agent Rana – code name Mr-9 – of the Bangladesh Counter Intelligence Agency. Grillo plays his evil nemesis, Roman Ross.
The film was shot over the summer in the U.S. and Bangladesh and is now in post-production.

A placid family drama on a tropical island is interrupted by men with guns, and all too routine mayhem ensues
It was announced earlier this year that Bruce Willis was retiring from film-making because his aphasia was making it increasingly difficult for him to perform. However, he seems to be having a bit of a farewell tour as the last few films he worked on trickle out. Perhaps in the light of this , critics should be a bit kinder, cutting both Willis and the films themselves a bit of slack. But this one is just as rubbish and pointless as all the other ropey action movies he has made in the past few years.
Here, Willis is reunited with most of the cast from 2021’s Fortress, in which he played a retired CIA agent besieged, along with his son Paul (Jesse Metcalfe), on a tropical island that looks much like Puerto Rico,...

Jesse V. Johnson may well be the best director of action films working today. And his latest film, White Elephant may be Bruce Willis’s best chance to add another memorable to his list of credits. Or at least one that’s memorable for the right reasons.
Gabriel Tancredi is an enforcer working for Arnold (Bruce Willis). They have Carlos deal with a rival who won’t negotiate. He handles the matter, but a pair of cops, Vanessa and her partner see him making his escape. Arnold gives Gabriel and Carlos forty-eight hours to take care of that problem. And they get half the job done quickly and easily. But finishing it off may be more work than they expected.

Disney+ surprised Star Wars fans with a Darth Vader/Obi-Wan Kenobi faceoff in Episode 3 of “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” so it’s not surprising that Episode 4 takes to the proverbial plotting bacta tank to recover.
With two episodes left, the series is laying groundwork for some serious showdowns between the Empire and its infant resistance, not to mention more lightsaber warfare unlike anything seen before. It starts off with a literal bacta tank as Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) heals from the burns he sustained on Mapuzo, when Vader (Hayden Christensen) used the Force to drag his former Master through a field of fire.
The imagery isn’t subtle, nor is it meant to be; “Obi-Wan” is deliberately reminding us that its title character and Darth Vader are inextricably linked. The original Star Wars films reveal this in “Empire Strikes Back,” but the majority of Anakin and Obi-Wan’s history has been built retroactively...

This Star Wars: Obi-wan Kenobi article contains spoilers.
Obi-Wan and Leia find themselves in the Inquisitors’ clutches this week. Their escape from Fortress Inquisitorius is a classic Star Wars adventure with some spooky reveals about what exactly sits at the heart of the Inquisitors’ command base. Meanwhile, Leia proves she’s almost as good at holding up to Imperial interrogation at 10 as she will be in A New Hope.
Below are all the Star Wars references, easter eggs, and cameos we spotted in episode 4. We have to start with the unfortunate Jedi encased in the Inquisitor tomb. While we can’t exactly confirm who these characters are, there are a few fan theories as to their identities. Of course, it’s possible the bodies in the tomb simply look similar to characters we’ve seen before in the Prequel Trilogy and The Clone Wars. Either way, prepare to be heartbroken…...

This Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi review contains spoilers.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4
After some empty-looking landscapes last week, Star Wars is back to thoroughly convincing science fiction hallways in “Part 4” of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The setting certainly helps add tension to an episode that fizzles a bit emotionally in the second half. But overall, Ewan McGregor continues to prove himself essential to the galaxy far, far away as his show reaches the final stretch.
Leia has been captured by the Empire and brought to Fortress Inquisitorius, a name at least one person says with a very straight face. To rescue her, Obi-Wan and Tala enlist the help of the proto-rebels on Jabiim, including an operative named Roken (played by O’Shea Jackson Jr).
Fans hoping for more Legends canon tie-ins on the planet won’t get them here. Instead, Obi-Wan sees only a few rooms in the base and the inside of a bacta tank.

Ever since the first time I saw his film My Pure Joy I’ve always been interested to see director (and now producer) James Cullen Bressack’s “next” film. For some cinephiles, Sicily may still conjure images from “The Godfather” franchise, but the Italian isle has long moved on.
When you see Sicily on screen these days in movies and TV series made for global audiences, the narratives now seldom involve Cosa Nostra tropes as they once used to. What’s taking precedence for producers now is the sheer beauty of the Sicilian landscape in its plethora of forms.
“For decades Sicily was where you would come to film stories that were centered around the Mafia and organized crime; but now this is changing,” says Sicilian Film Commission chief Nicola Tarantino. He notes that only 10 of the roughly 45 projects supported by the commission last year have anything to do with the mob.
While the crime angle may have boosted Sicily’s profile as a location, productions that chose the island for filming are just “less and less interested in this theme,...

‘Better Call Saul’ Review: In ‘Black and Blue,’ Everyone Has to Face the Worst Version of Themselves
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 6, Episode 5, “Black and Blue.”]
One chair isn’t going to cut it.
Though, to be fair to Kim (Rhea Seehorn), it’s the kind of thing that’s worked in the past for her and Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk). The name changes, the career changes, and the last-second strokes of genius have all been temporary fixes to head off the worst that’s coming their way.
After plenty of moments tracking Jimmy lying awake, unsure of what’s coming next, “Better Call Saul” shows Kim pacing around the living room, hoping that a 2 Am cigarette will do more than the piece of furniture shoved in the door to fend off anyone seeking revenge. Jimmy may be the one who’s already changed his name, but Kim is the one who’s fully processing the fundamental change that his choice to be a “friend of the cartel” is...

On April 29, Bruce Willis’ storied filmography adds another credit with the release of “Fortress: Sniper’s Eye.”
The action-thriller starring Willis, Jesse Metcalfe and Chad Michael Murray is a sequel to 2021’s “Fortress” and is set to be released in select theaters, as well as on digital platforms and VOD. It’s just one of about 10 tough-guy titles still outstanding as Willis’ acting career comes to a close.
The actor’s family announced Wednesday that the superstar will step away from acting after being recently diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage the affects a person’s ability to communicate. Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis and their daughters Mabel and Evelyn, along with his ex-wife Demi Moore and their daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah revealed the diagnosis in a statement posted to social media. After “much consideration,” they wrote, Willis made the decision to step away from “the...

“The Razzies are truly sorry for #BruceWillis diagnosed condition,” the parody awards ceremony wrote on Twitter. “Perhaps this explains why he wanted to go out with a bang in 2021. Our best wishes to Bruce and family.”

Big-screen icon Bruce Willis is stepping away from acting following a recent diagnosis of aphasia, a brain condition that impacts cognitive abilities and speech. Willis’ eldest daughter, Rumer Willis, made the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday, sharing a joint statement from his family about Willis’ condition. Aphasia is caused by brain damage, and affects an individual’s ability to communicate.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” Rumer Willis wrote in the statement. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

Results for the 42nd Razzie Awards are in — and if you had anything to do with “Diana: The Musical,” you might want to go back to bed.
The big, fat Broadway bomb about the Princess of Wales beamed into your living room courtesy of Netflix was this year’s big Razzie “winner,” taking home five of what the group calls its “un-coveted … tacky, gold-spray-painted statuettes.”
The streaming version of the stage musical bagged Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Jeanna de Waal), Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Director (Christopher Ashley) and Worst Screenplay. The group pointed out how richly the “Diana” script deserved the honor for “featuring some of the year’s most ridiculed dialogue and lyrics — Including rhyming ‘Camilla’ with both ‘Manila’ and ‘Godzilla.'”

"I must make you suffer." Lionsgate has revealed a trailer for yet another straight-to-the-trash Bruce Willis action movie, which he keeps churning out more & more of recently. This latest one is Fortress: Sniper's Eye, apparently a sequel to the action cyber-thriller Fortress from last year; they found a different director for this one. Which didn't seem to help much. Retired CIA agent Robert Carter Michaels and his son Paul have committed themselves to rebuilding their relationship after their epic last encounter spent protecting the highly secure secret base: the Fortress. When Paul's wife, Melissa, is abducted, he and Robert embark on a deadly journey through the rugged mountains in hopes of saving her. The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe, Bruce Willis, Chad Michael Murray, Ser'Darius Blain, Kelly Greyson, Natalie Burn, Welker White, and Gabrielle Haugh. As forgettable as they come. I think even nodded off watching the trailer. Here's the official...

James Cullen Bressack (“Fortress”) is adapting the play “Murder, Anyone?” into a feature film, Variety can exclusively reveal.
“Muder, Anyone?” was originally written by Bressack’s father, Emmy Award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack. The play first premiered at the White Fire Theatre in Los Angeles in 2017.
Gordon Bressack, who worked on dozens of beloved animated shows including “Animaniacs” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” died in 2019.
Now his son will direct and produce a feature film adaptation, in part to “bring attention to his work,” Bressack tells Variety.
Spencer Breslin (“The Happening”) and Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”) are set to star in the film, a faithful adaptation of Bressack Sr.’s show about two playwrights tasked with creating a new “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller” who find their story coming to life as they write.
Breslin and Andrews are joined by Galadriel Stineman (“The Is Us”), Maurice Lamarche (“Animaniacs”), Charles M.

BlackOps Studios Asia from the Philippines, Story Arch Pictures from the U.S. and Agog Film from Hong Kong have joined forces to develop, produce and finance a slate of genre movies that target the streaming marketplace.
The 16-title slate comprises nine films and seven series in the action, horror and sci-fi genres, with 11 flowing from BlackOps, two from Story Arch and three from Agog. The lineup is being unveiled this week at the European Film Market, the online companion to the in-person Berlin Film Festival.
The slate has development support from the Philippines-based creative agency Psyops8 and is expected to tap into incentives and location support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (Fdcp). Yippee-ki-yay, Bruce Willis sure has a lot to celebrate the day before the 2022 Academy Award nominees are announced.

As is tradition, the Golden Raspberry Awards announced their contenders on the eve of the Oscar nominations. The Razzies, now in their 42nd year, are a tongue-in-cheek ceremony that “honor” the worst films of the year. Unique to this year is a category dedicated to Bruce Willis and his eight performances in pictures last year.
Leading the 2022 Razzie Awards nominations roster is the Netflix version of the Broadway flop “Diana: The Musical” with nine bids. Tied with five apiece are “Karen” and “The Woman in the Window.” Each of these ill-conceived movies counts a Worst Picture nomination among its haul. Joining them in that race are the sequel “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and the sci-fi flick “Infinite.”
As usual, “winners” will be decided by Razzie members.

This article contains spoilers for Superman & The Authority.
The Man of Steel of Superman & The Authority looks a little different than you might be used to. Graying at the temples, a hint of smile lines around his eyes, and a capeless outfit that looks equally ready for some serious work in a laboratory or a super-powered street fight. It’s an older, wiser, Superman, sporting a look befitting a man with a teenage son and years of experience under his belt, and he brings all the patience and wisdom that you’d expect him to have as he reaches superheroic middle age.
And while this look is a holdover from the old 5G publishing initiative, it’s about the only thing from Didio’s Superman pitch that stuck around.

Lionsgate has provided /Film with an exclusive clip from their new thriller "Fortress" starring none other than the king of Christmas action himself, Bruce Willis. In the film the "Die Hard" star plays a retired CIA spook named Robert who matches wits with his archenemy Balzary, played by "Riverdale" regular Chad Michael Murray. In this clip you get to see the two go toe-to-toe even as Willis is tied to a chair, showing off his trademark laissez-faire attitude. As much as Murray taunts and threatens him in the scene, Willis remains unflappable.

If you’re a long-time reader of Nerdly you’ll know we’re huge fans of director James Cullen Bressack, so much so that back in 2015 we [unsuccessfully] tried to get his controversial film Hate Crime released on VOD in the UK – I say unsuccessfully as it was banned by the BBFC and we eventually ended up releasing his follow-up To Jennifer instead. Since then Bressack has ventured away from the horror genre, mixing things up with action movies starring actors like Steven Seagal and Bruce Willis.
Speaking of Willis, Fortress sees the actor back working with Bressack (after Survive the Game) as well as two of his co-stars from his previous movies, actors Chad Michael...

Italy’s Boosted Infrastructure and Incentives Attract Big Pics Such as ‘House of Gucci’ and ‘Cyrano’
Italy, which has always been attractive for international film and TV productions, is now making huge strides as a shooting destination mainly due to its Covid safety measures and smart rebate, on top its stunning locations.
The number of high-profile Hollywood shoots that since the pandemic have flocked to Italian sites — from the Alpine Alto Adige area to Sicily and Sardinia — has increased exponentially.
Productions taking advantage of Italy’s attractive incentives and deep crew base include “Mission: Impossible 7,” Netflix’s Dwayne Johnson-starrer “Red Notice,” Amazon’s “The Wheel of Time,” Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” “Indiana Jones 5” and also Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci,” Showtime’s “Ripley” series and Joe Wright’s “Cyrano.”
These last three productions have the distinction of being lensed almost entirely in the country.
Foreign production spend this year in Italy is estimated at roughly $250 million and is expected to double...
