- 84 talented high school students from 75 cities across the US participate in a week of musical immersion while working with GRAMMY® Award-winning and -nominated professionals and industry specialists affiliated with The Recording Academy®.
- On July 11, 2009, 83 extraordinarily talented teenagers from across the country arrived on the hallowed grounds of the USC campus. One very intense and life changing week later they performed a concert composed of original music created during camp. Leading up to the concert, the students were held responsible to write, orchestrate, produce and promote the event, soup to nuts do or die. Happy on the Ground: 8 Days at GRAMMY Camp chronicles these special teenagers' unprecedented journey during the GRAMMY Foundation's completely immersive music industry camp. From the minute they woke and until well past midnight, the teens from all walks of life collaborated on levels many never dreamed possible. A female base player from the grittiest streets of Detroit played along side the guitarist son of a rock legend. A seasoned fourteen year old blues singer collaborated with a self taught pianist with only one year at the keys. Despite the dismal state of music education, the uphill battle to create a career in music and the continuing turmoil surrounding the industry, these kids still believe its all about the music. Guided by music greats Jimmy Jam, Lamont Dozier and Dave Koz, to name a few, these teenagers truly got the unique experience to feel what it's really like to live, work, eat and breathe the music industry. Their hopes and dreams are infectious, their pragmatism humbling and their talent inspiring.
