80s Head Rush!

Between the dancing and the excellent music, especially IOU by Freeez, this one hit the tone of 1983 spot on! Made me miss my childhood. Also made me sad that we won't be seeing 1984 in the show; I can only imagine what they would've done!

Take a leap of faith.

Litton and Bevan arrive from Manchester, in search of comedian and fraudster Frank Hardwick, Litton instantly puts Hunt's nose out of joint.

I loved the mystery and intrigue surrounded Sam Tyler, you could argue Life on Mars didn't get a definite conclusion, this is increasing the interest.

I loved Lee Ross here as Litton, equally brash and loud as Hunt, a worthy adversary. He certainly looks the part, those shoes are amazing.

Roy Hudd is good as Hardwick, I thought Dean Andrews was the standout here though, he's the one to see stars this time, I've heard him sing elsewhere, on Father Brown, he has a smashing voice.

I don't like commenting on appearances, but Hawes looks so amazing throughout, were the 1980's ever so chic and elegant? She looks awesome.

Olivia Newton Skelton, just too funny.

Love this one, 9/10.

Great songs, great black comedy and an intriguing long term storyline plus an old comedian gets caught with his trousers down. Great fun with a returning character too.

Brilliant episode

This one had it all, Jam on the soundtrack ..an early sighting of Ben Elton( did they really kill him off ) Alex in 80s massive pearls and pie crust shirt plus Rose Tyler's mum as a OTT glam sex worker ...

Roy Hudd also does a great turn as the sort of outdated comedian the 80s thankfully put paid to ...

Watching this again 12 years after it was released confirms my thoughts this was an exceptional series led by the truly fabulous thinking women's bit of rough sex god Gene Hunt.

The writing is wickedly knowing and witty. I am actually saddened it's getting close now to the heartbreaking ending.

Warning: Spoilers
Lytton from Manchester is back on Gene's patch in this strong episode of 'Ashes' that sees Alex's Drake's struggle to get home pushed to the side in favour of asking the question about what happened to Sam Tyler, and also fleshing out the character of Ray a little more.

It may follow very strictly to the tried and tested formula of 'Ashes', which if you watch too many episodes back to back becomes jarring, but on the whole there's a lot that's good about this episode, notably a stellar performance from Dean Andrews as Ray and a guest appearance from Roy Hudd.

As I've said before, 'Ashes' is asking a lot of questions of its audience, my only hope is that it leaves itself enough time to answer them.

Another tedious repetitive episode.

Every episode of season 3 has been identical so far.

You've got Jim Keats saying and doing exactly the same things all the way through.

This episode is exactly the same as all the others.

The story takes a back seat to the subplot. And when that happens you've got a problem.

Another boring and repetitive episode.
