- The question remains - did Gene hunt kill Sam Tyler? Alex needs to know and all is revealed in the final episode. Meanwhile the rest of the team are dealing with a Jewelry robbery and triple homicide: diamonds are missing and the bodies of three gang members have been discovered. Things don't help with Jim Keats stirring up trouble as usual between team members.—Anonymous
- As Keats tries to persuade Alex that Tyler was killed by an increasingly enigmatic Hunt, the team find three dead gangsters and links to an international diamond smuggling ring. After the gems are located Alex travels North pursued by Hunt who shows her the house where her ghostly disfigured cop died. Keats appears, making Hunt admit his part in Tyler's disappearance, and promises Alex a return home if she can get Gene to admit this to Chris, Ray and Shaz. Back in London, Keats beats Hunt up and lures away all the team except Alex but they return to Hunt and help catch the diamond gang before ending up in the pub, where destinies are decided.—Anonymous
- The end is nearing for Alex Drake and the team to find out whether Gene Hunt did kill Sam tyler. Keats leaves Shaz, Chris and Ray some video tapes that give them an insight they would have rather not seen. The tapes show their deaths. Chris died shot on the beat as a fresh rookie policeman, Ray died hanging himself after he felt a disgrace to his father and Shaz was stabbed by a screwdriver during a grand theft auto botch- up. Alex finds the shallow grave of the policeman she has been seeing. As she is about to find the truth, Gene unexpectedly pulls his gun on her and tells her to stop. Alex digs up the shallow grave to find a skull with a hole through the head. Thinking this is Sam, she pleds with Gene. Closer inspection reveals a book, an old id for a policeman. It turns out that the ID is in fact Gene's. Gene was the young policeman who was shot by a shotgun and then hidden in a shallow grave. Gene is naturally shocked by this and tells her the story of how he died trying to be brave. Keats turns up to shatter Gene's makebelieve world and show the other the truth. Alex doesn't want to believe it and tells Gene that she must return to her daughter. Keats takes them back to the station and beats Gene up, showing him that he is only the meak policeman he once was. After demolishing some of the office, he shows the other that they are in Limbo, a place between the living and dead. He offers Shaz, Ray and Chris a chance at a new life with him. They agree and leave the battered and bloody Gene laying in the office. Alex stays with him and tells Keats to "go to hell" to which he replies "all right". This gives an indication that keats is in fact the Devil. While trying to coax, Shaz, Ray and Chris into a lift going down, gene and Alex strategise an bust. During the bust, it turns out that the gang never took Keats' and remained faithful to the Guv. After the successful bust, Gene takes them to the pub. But they find out that this isn't the sme greek restaurant/bar they used to go to, nope this is an altogether new pub. Through the windows they see white light, an indication that it's time for them to cross over into the white plain (Heaven). Chris and Shaz are the first to go through the doors followed shortly by Ray. Alex soon realises that she can't return to her daughter because she is dead. She begs to plead with Gene for her to stay here but Gene makes her go. Keats squares up to Gene, to which Gene punches Keats for what he did to him earlier. Keats walks away saying "we'll meet again" with a maniac smile on his face. Gene retreats back to his office and settles down with a drink. Outside he has a brand new crew of police officers. He looks outside, another unfortunate soul is stumbled into the police station asking where is his iphone and what are they doing in his office. Gene realises what has happened and open his door saying " A word in your shell like pal."
