Gems unearthed

The problem with ITV is that it is split into regions and while not all produce programmes, of those that do not all of the shows are transmitted on all regions. This was often the way back in the 70s and 80s which is why this show is an absolute treasure trove that includes a lot of footage that has only ever been shown once and, in some cases, never shown before - sometimes the recording of a performance carried on after a live show finished.

Yes, there is commentary over the bands in the first series but thankfully the producers saw the error of their ways and from the second series captions pop up during the songs with snippets of information.

There are some real diamonds to be found here with bands often playing lesser known tracks - this is no Top of the Pops 2 ripoff and stands out as a great memento to the golden age of British music TV.

Great material let down with soporific script

Fantastic to see some original performances and interviews, a real insight into a different era. Unfortunately the presentation sends you to sleep. The title sequence would suit a programme about an archeological dig. The presenter talks over sections of great songs. Worth watching for some brilliant bands but the show is a missed opportunity.
