- The Visitors continue to try and win favor with the population, this time by announcing that they will share their medical knowledge. Not only are they sharing advanced medical scanning techniques but they announce they will make available to all a new supercharged vitamin treatment. Erica, Jack and fifth columnist Ryan Nichols learn that they are in fact putting a drug in regular flu shots. Meanwhile, Anna agrees with Lisa that Erica's son Tyler is exactly the person they want for their future plans. Anna also learns that Dale, Erica's one-time FBI partner, was killed aboard the ship and takes steps to identify the fifth columnist who may be responsible. Ryan's wife Valerie has some important news for him.—garykmcd
- Joshua risks losing Anna's trust, so his fellow Fifth Columnists takes the blame for silencing a dangerous witness, even if that means being flailed to death, which Joshua must execute. Tyler is elated when Lisa presents him to her mother, none other then Anna, but his mother finds out at home that he joined the V ambassador program. Chad accepts to be scanned as part of an exclusive on the V's ambitious program to scan and cure humans; but hesitates to believe their uncontrollable 'accidental' discovery that he's destined for an aneurysm unless they treat him. Father Jack Landry's party discovers the flu vaccine doctored by the V is a clever way to infect people who will scrutinize the seemingly more dangerous, genuine medical program which should win great support.—KGF Vissers
- Erica works with newly-formed allies to uncover a biological threat they suspect the Visitors have been plotting. Aboard the Mothership, Anna meets with a special guest while managing the investigation into the murder of a V. And Chad does a segment on the V Healing Centers, demonstrating their amazing medical abilities, but then finds himself conflicted by some of his findings.—ABC Publicity
- "V" - "It's Only the Beginning" - Nov. 24, 2009
Ryan runs through a parking structure. As does Erica who races up to Georgie who's on the ground. Ryan points a weapon at her.
An onscreen title announces Fourteen Hours Earlier
Back at the confab between Erica, Ryan, Georgie, and Father Jack, Georgie expounds on his long struggle fighting with the V's and how they killed his family. Erica wonders how Ryan knows so much about them. Ryan says he's been doing it even longer than Georgie. Georgie wants to hit back for the warehouse attack. Erica says they don't have enough people. Georgie says they just need to get a V and cut them open and show them to the world. Ryan says the V's will have no choice but to retaliate if they do that. Father Jack, not psyched about the V murder plan counsels caution.
Georgie and Ryan leave and he wonders why Ryan didn't fess up to being a V. Ryan angrily says he better never hear Georgie talk about skinning a V again.
Marcus tells Anna about Dale's murder. Joshua can't believe it! Marcus says he's heard rumors about traitors and the Fifth Column. Anna asks Joshua to assemble a team and find out who did it. Marcus gives Joshua a stern look.
Meanwhile Erica does some poking around in Ryan's background on her computer at home. He has no criminal record or known aliases. Tyler comes in as she works in the living room. He wants to talk. She asks for two minutes and continues working for several more minutes. Tyler sits and flicks on the TV. Chad is talking to Anna who is announcing more miraculous healing centers.
Val is also watching, she's on the phone trying to get an appointment with the doctor. She tells Ryan her heart medication is making her tired. She contemplates stopping taking them. Ryan says she can't. They kiss. Ryan watches the TV as Anna talks about a new super vitamin-like injection that will help humans fight off numerous forms of cancer and even aging. She jokes to Chad that even the V's haven't cracked the common cold.
Back at the Evans homestead Tyler tries to tell Erica about Lisa. Her phone rings, it's Ryan. She says she'll call him back. Tyler stalks off and says it's fine. Ryan says they need to meet.
The core quartet meets up again and Ryan tells them it's a lie about the injection, that it's harmful and part of something much bigger that was started years ago. He wants to give Erica the names of the V's who were involved in the injection project last time. She runs their names and they get a hit on a Peter Combs. Ryan knows he's a V and if they follow him he thinks Combs will lead him to a bigger part of the puzzle.
Tyler talks in therapy about not being able to talk to his mom and all she can say is to stay away from the V's and that she thinks they're evil. He shows off his V jacket and says he's become a peace ambassador. He thinks the world is broken and the V's are fixing it. His therapist? Valerie. She asks if he's been to the healing centers. She's curious. He says he knows someone and might be able to bump her to the front of the line. She says she might take him up on that. He says when he turns 18 in a few months he's going to do what he wants. She says even when he's 18 Erica will be his mom. His jacket, lying on a nearby chair, transmits his session to the mothership where Lisa and Anna are watching. Lisa says she thought it might take longer but now thinks that Tyler is "ready." Anna says to bring him aboard.
Marcus is thanking Chad for doing a report on the healing center. He exposits he didn't have a choice, Anna wouldn't do an interview with him unless he did this. He watches, amazed, through glass as a V scans away a grateful patient's wound.
Erica can't reach Tyler and tells Father Jack that Tyler is mad at her but she doesn't want to talk about it. Ryan calls, they're all in place to follow Combs, who gets out of class in 15 minutes. Ryan waits in the parking garage, apparently Georgie is upstairs. Erica calls Georgie but he doesn't pick up.
Joshua tells Anna that he extensively interivewed everyone and he can't find any clues as to who did it. She testily tells him and another medical guy to gather the medical staff. The other guy tells Joshua that he needs to get off the ship since he's too important to the Column, he says he won't let it happen.
Father Jack and Erica wait, as do Georgie and Ryan. Combs emerges and Georgie cocks a gun and follows him. Combs gets to his car and Georgie points his weapon at him and says he's going to cut him open and expose him. He then shoots. Combs ducks and then shoots Georgie. We're back to where we were at the beginnig of the episode. Ryan wasn't shooting at Erica he was shooting at Combs behind her. He shoots Combs. Father Jack pulls up in the car and takes Georgie off. Ryan grabs Combs who calls Ryan a filthy traitor and then takes some kind of V cyanide that burns him up and turns him to ash from the inside. He turns around and Erica is pointing a gun at him. She says matter-of-factly: "You're a Visitor." He does not protest.
She asks him what the hell is going on. He says they're on the same side. He says everything he's told her is true. Except that he's a Visitor. He never said he wasn't. He says the sirens are getting close, what's it going to be.
Chad is getting a V body scan for his report on the healing centers. Marcus enters and asks if he needs anything. Chad would like more freedom to walk around and talk to patients alone. Marcus is all "tight schedule, sorry."
Father Jack tends to Georgie's wounds. Turns out he did two tours in Iraq as an Army chaplain. Georgie tells him he needs to decide whether he's a priest or a soldier.
Ryan opens Combs' briefcase and he realizes that they won't get anywhere until she can ask her questions. She asks about the pill. Suicide pill, leaves no evidence behind, all V's carry them. She wonders why he called Ryan a traitor and if there are other V's like him fighting back. He says they call it the Fifth Column. She says it's good to know. They go through Combs' stuff and find a suspicious invoice for a shipping company.
Anna addresses the medical staff about Dale's murder and what it cost them in intelligence. She asks the Not Joshua guy to go stand with the rest of the staff. She appraises Joshua. She says unless the guilty party steps forward she will choose one to make an example of and an innocent will suffer. Not Joshua steps forward just as Joshua himself was about to. Not Joshua says "long live the Fifth Column." Anna says that as lead medical officer it's Joshua's job to carry out the sentence of skinning him.
Tyler is hanging with Lisa on the mothership. He wonders if he's in trouble with her mom. She says no. She explains Anna is her mom and he's speechless. Anna welcomes him with a smile and says she wants to speak to him alone. Lisa tells him not to worry, that Anna doesn't bite.
Ryan and Erica check out the shipping company. She lures the security guard out. Ryan incapacitates him and she and Father Jack and Ryan go in. Ryan calls for an evacuation.
Anna says Lisa's happiness is a big priority and says she's quite taken with Tyler. He says he digs her too. Anna is glad. So glad she shows him the groovy propulsion system - engine room- of the ship because she knows that he digs machines since Lisa said he liked motorcycles. She says he's the first human to see it. He's amazed, it's all glowy and zappy and electric and looks like no manmade engine.
Joshua gets ready to skin his compatriot and can't believe he sacrificed himself. He reiterates the need to protect Joshua and by proxy the Fifth Column since he's one of Anna's closest advisers. Joshua has trouble but his buddy tells him he has to. He picks up a scalpel and rips into his buddy who screams.
Ryan, Jack and Erica poke around the warehouse. Jack calls her over to a surgical tent in the middle of the stacks fo crates. In it are curled up, weird looking dead bodies. Ryan shows them a vial of R6, the "vitamin shot." They figure they're experimenting on humans. Erica finds other vials and realizes that the V's are mixing whatever their mojo is into a human flu vaccine. It's set to ship the next day.
The trio exposits no one would be able to tell there was anything wrong with the flu shots and the V shot probably is a vitamin shot and that the government wouldn't worry about our own flu shot when they have to check over the V vitamin shot. She realizes the V's are depending on the human nature of people to run out and get shots. Father Jack laments that they will have to be less human to outsmart the V's. Erica and Ryan say they'll just need to be less predictable since the V's are so savvy. She says they need to destroy the rest of the warehouse full of vaccine. They hear a door open.
Valerie is at the V healing center and being told that her condition can be healed. She was just hoping for a change in meds. The V doctor says the diagnostic also turned up something else.
The V's have returned. Ryan tells Jack and Erica to make a break for it while he runs back to set a self-destruct system. He still has all the V info at his fingertips literally and reprograms the fancy, floating, virtual computer. He's attacked from behind by a V and Erica shoots him dead. She and Ryan exchange a look. Father Jack returns and urges them to skedaddle. As they make it out the door the warehouse blows.
Marcus wants to chat with Chad before he leaves. A V doctor tells him that he has a brain tumor waiting to explode in 6 months. Chad wants to get a second opinion. Marcus and the V doctor explain human technology won't pick it up until it's too late. They ask if he wants a copy of his medical records to take with him. He notes that he didn't give them one. They point out that their technology is so awesome it can not only tell what will happen but what already has like his childhood chicken pox, bronchitis, broken bones and lifelong migraines. Chad is startled, annoyed, and freaked. The good news is they can totally fix it. The bad news? There's a long waiting list. But, says Marcus, they may be willing to work out some kind of arrangement.
A satisfied Ryan, Jack, and Erica leave the scene of the crime. Jack says it may just be a hiccup but it's good to throw a wrench in the works. Erica praises his right hook. Ryan says they made a difference tonight and takes off.
Anna tells Marcus that they're plan is beginning to take hold and Lisa was right about Tyler being the one. Marcus breaks the bad news about the warehouse explosion. The news has spread to other ships and V's are getting antsy. Anna says they'll have to manage the V's fears by reminding them that even with talk of John May and the Fifth Column they have her.
In a long glittery white dress/towel, Anna walks to a glowing white pod. She drops her cover and reaches out and seems to absorb and emit light as she performs some kind of ritual. Whatever she's doing seems to be transmitted on some cosmic interiror Public Address system to all the V's throughout the ships and some on the ground. Her voice saying things like: no need for regrets, the past is gone, no hunger, no sickness, no fear. The words seem to move into the people and make them all blissed out as they look up and seem to glow. Even Joshua takes in the shot of bliss and it looks almost narcotic and orgasmic. She says to bask in her light and take comfort in knowing she's there. Tyler asks Lisa what that was. Lisa says it was a gift from her mother, they call it bliss. She and Tyler kiss.
Ryan returns to Valerie's big news. She's pregnant. Ryan just laughs. They hug and he looks freaked.
At the church Father Jack unlocks a file cabinet and takes out his gun and hears Georgie's admonishment about being a priest or a solider in his head. He locks the gun back up but then hears a noise. Instead of getting the gun back out he just yells "Father Travis" and walks toward the noise. An apparently troubled soul wants to talk. Father Jack asks him to leave. The guy says he's desperate. It's a V, he jumps up and sticks a spike through Jack's gut. We hear Father Travis yell "Jack?" from a distance and the V runs.
Erica returns home and calls out for Tyler. He's not home. She sees an IM on the computer screen that he was invited to the V ship. She calls him. He ignores the call. Anna and Lisa ask if everything is okay. He says it is and admires the view of the Empire State Building. He says the view of space must be awesome. Lisa takes his hand. He smiles at her. Anna says maybe one day he'll see it and that what he's seen today is only the beginning.
The camera than pulls quickly up out of the ship, into the sky, out to a view of the Earth and then back and back and back through space until it comes down to rest on a visual of a huge fleet of ships, apparently on their way to Earth.
