I Cant Believe That I Am Witnessing This
Nichking0431 August 2023
I remember watching the pilot for adventure time back when I was just seven years old in 2010. I remember seeing the first episode for this amazing show. It's crazy to believe how much backstory and lore there is about this show. Every episode was important because it either gave us more information about a character or it introduced a new character. What I liked about adventure time was that no matter what happened there was always an adventure going on and this show has so many References that its amazing how much I know about this show & the new series is really good I mean I understand it's only 2 episodes but its Amazing. I honestly feel like Im 7 Years old again witnessing a new show for the first time. But the show grew up with all of us like its crazy that we get to finally hear the characters curse. Its honestly something that I should cherish. I'm happy that I get to watch a sequel to this show. I'm currently 20 years old and I am Happy that its still relevant. So I give it an 11/10. Thanks Pendleton Ward for making this show what it is today.

An Amazing Return To OOO and It's Extended Universe
jonathanmontgo15 September 2023
I absolutely love this series! I never really liked all of the Fiona and Cake episodes in original adventure time since they seemed rather cheesy but this series has done an amazing job fleshing out their characters. Every character in this series is now more nuanced and mature. I love exploring what has happened during the time we've been absent from this series. I can't believe they were willing to take such a risk as making adventure time more adult and I can't believe the transition worked so well. It's an exciting new perspective for adventure time to take and I feel like this is something more shows that were originally targeted at children that also captured a more mature audience need to do. It's rare to see a show grow with it's audience and also very rare for a show to be so in touch with it's fans' opinions and desires as Fiona and Cake is. I believe this show delivers for any fan of adventure time. 10/10 can't wait to watch more.

Everything we've ever wanted from AT and more
sandro-0824722 September 2023
I love this. I think everyone who watches this has watched Adventure Time. Fionna & Cake? It's everything we loved from AT condensed and elevated, bloodier with more personal and heavy themes to keep up with the aging audience, and a familiar cast of characters in a new light, in new variations and closer insights into them.

The humor is on point, the action is krisp, and I love the new directions they're exploring with the multiverse. I truly hope that this will be as long, if not longer than Adventure Time. Because the potential is there, the quality too, a hit series better than its predecessor is in the making.

Please, keep it up. We love Adventure Time. And this? It's AT², truly mathematical!

With just these first 2 episodes, you arleady know you're in for a wild ride.

Warning: Spoilers
After the amazing original series of Adventure Time, the specials and the amazing miniseries named Distant Lands, we have now finally received Fionna and Cake, a series that i have been thankfully able to watch by knowing the best piracy sites for these MAX series, ( i'm not american, i'm italian, so the service is not my country yet ) and after seeing the first two episodes, i can say that this is the best thing the studio has made with this universe.

While i was not around when the original started, (since i was still a smol baby that was born in 2008. I started to become a fan of it around the time i was 12 years old. Then saw the trailer for the miniseries Distant Lands, watched that and boom, i became a fan. When i finished Distant Lands i was so happy at what they had accomplished and hoped that it was not the last time i would enter in this world. And now, in my age of a kid who is now fifteen years old, who is now in love with TV and has been a part of some amazing shows, movies and even web series on YouTube, i am so glad to be a part of this amazing new entry of the Adventure Time universe.

Ever since it's announcement, i was super hyped for what i was about to get into, but with the merger at Discovery and HBO MAX, i was afraid, ( like everyone else ), on whether or not the series would see the light of day but thankfully, it did and boy am i glad it did, as this has got to be the rarest ocassion of a TV series being able to making me hooked right away and wanting for more immediately after finishing the first few episodes, ( next to Final Space, Calls and Daredevil ).

Right from the first episode i was immediately hooked and in love with the animation style, the feel of being back in this world once again was amazing and the tongue and cheek humor, the dialogue, the action and the plot, made me arleady know that this was gonna be an experience that i would not miss in my life and would watch with joy whenever the next episode came up.

The plot of this series has that very Bee and Puppycat feel, as we see Fionna in her rusty and awful appartment getting ready to do her next boring and awful job as a taxi tourist, with an annoying little person that is meant to be the boss of the operation, this touches very well all of that charambe, except Bee doesn't hate her job but she can't keep it due to her not being good at it and lives in poverty with a massive rent to pay, similar to how this series tackles the beginning with Fionna and her sadly ill cat. The way each character you see speaks, feels depressed and knows that what they're doing won't work in the long run, is something that i was not expecting. ( I mean, the intro of the first episode has a song about suicide. Like... JEEZ, not even Succession reaches this level of darkness ). After it ended, i knew i wanted more and i got more in the best way possible.

When i began episode 2 i was not expecting that the same level of depth would be tackled even better with the story of Simon, who has now escaped from his dark past as Ice King and has now turned into a human , however, he begins to regret it after fans of the book series Fionna and Cake ask him about it and when a fan wants Simon to sign the book, he throws it in the trash bin and starts panicking and rambling about his problems in a bar.

See, this feeling of suicide and depression is something you don't see many times in a show like this, you see it in shows or movies like The Blind Side, Wonder or Gomorrah, but not in Adventure Time. And yet, you see it and you see it in the best way possible. I myself had some of the exact problems in my life when i was younger, with me thinking that i wasn't good enough at something that i was gonna be depressed my whole life and that society would not be a good place for me, since i struggled trying to find friends and had problems with my parents that always fought for their problems and with me as well for not doing well at school. This sense of depression was something that i could feel and had seen many times at school or even in some of the most important YouTube videos that i would ever watch and the realization that Adventure Time would start tackling the topic of depression in the way that it does was something surprising but also wonderful. By the way. The way Finn changed over the course of the show is amazing and it really reminds so much of Hercules, his strong powers, how he feels invincible with every monster and his strong muscles and still active energy of emotions, is something that i loved so much.

All in all, Adventure Time Fionna and Cake is an experience that any fan of Adventure Time should watch. Full of the best acting yet, amazing animation, a storyline that will hook you from the start and amazing character design, makes it one of the very rare TV shows that give me such anxiety, sadness, emotion for the characters, laughter, shock and happines all at once. Adventure Time really shows how it has gone from a fun and quirky sitting down on the couch show to a roller coaster of emotions! If these two episodes are this good, i cannot wait for what they have in store next.

This is one of the greatest spinoffs of all time!!!
accformovies22 September 2023
I was a bit skeptical when they announced there's going to be a spinoff of my much beloved show Adventure time.

Based on the gender swapped versions of Finn and Jake.

I honestly kept my expectations low but this show exceeded them and I can't wait for the finale.

A great use of the concept of multiverse for people who's having multiverse fatigue.

It's really captures the essence of the original show while reaching new heights with the level of animation, writing, voice acting and pacing.

I am so glad it didn't got cancelled.

Cartoon network studios is cooking up great stuff and I can't wait to see what's next.

pretty chill so far
spenser75731 August 2023
Its so cool that theres more adventure time! This is really good so far. First episode reminds me of Bee And Puppycat a lot. If you've ever seen that show same vibes but way better, plus you get to look for and identify all of the normal-universe versions of the Fionna and Cake characters. Its kinda confusing at first what universe we are in and how they connect but i'm sure that will be explained over the course of the show. I was worried at first that this show would state that all of the original adventure time was just a dream but i think its gonna end up being more complex than that. Grown up Finn is so cool and funny! I love him. Its cool to me that the story arcs have gotten longer overall from standalone 10 min episodes to 8 episodes arcs to an almost hour long finale and distant land episodes. Now this series builds on all of them and looks to be a continuing arc with 25 min episodes. So excited to see where it goes!

A beginning overload with past emotions
jonaslm-052678 September 2023
This is getting really difficult to watch as a lot of intense emotions surface watching these episodes and I can't remember a show that ever felt like that, let alone for a reboot. But seeing all those memories, references, things I've been wrestling with in my mind that left me a bit touched, a bit scared, with sweet and bitter tastes. And the writers know how deep the imprint of Adventure Time still is in our soul; so they genuinely sparkled that rebooted world with everything that made it successful and have great talents to suggest it to the spectator at a proper pace to intensely enjoy those memories.

Gosh I don't think I've ever been that eye-blurry throat-coated about any other show. This is starting really well.

It's great to see Fionna and Cake back!
whackamolewv1 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a wonderful series so far, and I hope the next episodes will also be wonderful! (Spoiler warning) Instead of Fionna and Cake being characters in books made by the Ice King from the original Adventure Time show, Fionna and Cake are officially going across the universe to Ooo! Even at the beginning of the show, Fionna's dream had amazing animation, and the entire show had amazing animation, too! Seeing Finn as an adult was surprising, but I got used to the adult Finn fast! Seeing a scene of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum trying to get tattoos was a perfect way to return them! And I caught a surprising reference: When the human version of the Lumpy Space Prince had a cameo, his name was Ellis P. Which is similar to the acronym, "LSP." And by the way, it wasn't a typo when I said "the Lumpy Space Prince" instead of "the Lumpy Space Princess" because Fionna and Cake are from the genderbent universe of Adventure Time. I never predicted Adventure Time would get a series for adults, but I'm glad this didn't disappoint me! During the bus scene, there were so many references to Adventure Time characters, especially that human female version of Fern. And also, I was shocked when I found out Prince Gumball's real name is Gary.

So far, really great!
springtrapvlogs1 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first two episodes have been really solid so far, i think setting it in a world where the war never happened was a really creative idea! The series is also (generally) in line with the rest of the franchise. Now the reason i say generally is because the second episode has fin say stuff like "bust your balls" and some gorey deaths which doesn't really fit and feels a bit forced honestly. But besides that it's been fantastic! The rest is extremely fateful to the original. Writing, story, and character wise. As well as all the the voice actors reprising their roles Also the relatable aspects are really well done, in both episodes. The fact all of these factors are perfect is extremely well rare in shows (voice acting story characters) all that, basically to put it short. It's Steven universe future done right!

Both kids and adults are in for a treat!
jamkafka23 September 2023
Having been a huge fan of Adventure Time since I was 12, this one is pretty nostalgic to me. I remember watching an episode of Adventure Time back then on our family television (I think it was "Trouble In Lumpy Space") that lured me and the whole family into the series. It's got everything a child could ever dream of: adventure, princesses, and all things mathematical!

Other than that, Adventure Time had always been so great at telling their stories, with character arcs that just make sense and are so raw that gives the antagonists of the story their own character development which makes you love them more. Each and every character are unique in their own little way.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake tells the story of the two titular characters who gets stuck in the multiverse that is told so perfectly and alters infinite realities massively. The creators are never afraid to test our their abilities to further expand the stories and how literally anything could happen. So far, "The Winter King" and "The Star" are my favorite episodes of the season -- and I am craving for more. I already love Gary and Marshall Lee's storyline, as well as Simon and Fionna's dynamic.

Incredible! Its ADVENTURE TIME ONCE AGAIN!
NerdecahedroN19 September 2023
Absolutely amazing! Watching it gives me a feeling of nostalgia and healing. I love how its made it more mature in a way, discovering more themes of adulthood and depression. Simon was always my favorite so to see this series focus on him for now is lovely. I saw someone else on here say it was too sad and that this show is supposed to be an escape but I disagree to an extent. Adding the element of sadness creates more depth and explores new themes. A good show should make you think! And its not like adventure time has never been sad. Love it and will be following the whole way through. I was nervous considering it is a max original because of shows like Velma and hoops. Max makes absolute trash shows but in this case the project has actually talented people involved so thank glob. I recommend to any adventure time fan who grew up with the show.

Undermines the wholesomeness of Adventure Time and a departure from what's true to character
justbe-450629 October 2023
I am floored by the positive reception of this show, and I'm convinced the fans of this show are genuinely disconnected from the original. Not only do the characters behave in a way that is not true to character, but they frankly regress from lessons that were shown to be learned in the original Adventure Time-from Marceline not giving Simon her time, Finn being irresponsible in his care for Simon, and for Prismo not only failing to do his job as Wishmaster, but also being recast after what seems like a less than half-hearted attempt by the studio to contact Kumail Nanjiani to reprise his role. In an effort to make Fionna and Cake appeal to an older audience, with added mature language and genuinely needless violence, it deliberately distances itself from Adventure Time, a show for everybody, to become a show just for a mature audience. To see this concept being executed properly, we only need to compare Steven Universe to Steven Universe Future, the latter of which is still accessible to kids and adults alike, in contrast to this show. The irony is not lost on me that the show is premised on a time auditor trying to capture the protagonists because they shouldn't exist, which is proven as they travel through each universe within this series, they are destructive and careless, hurting people and damaging the environment with no regard for anyone but themselves. This is a massive departure from the wholesomeness and "life-lesson" learning style of Adventure Time, damaging the canon that existed prior to this series and a careless disregard for rewriting characters in such a way that they are hardly recognizable to their Adventure Time counterparts. To not see the shortcomings of this show and what it has done to disrespect the legacy of the Adventure Time universe is to be blinded by the selfish efforts to canonize an inter-world fan-fiction that had little business existing in the first place.

Love love love
beehaley2 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's captured the adventure time universe so well. I love how we got to grow with the characters. So much growth. For those upset it's not for kids- it has a rating as an adult animation. It's made for us young adults who grew up watching adventure time I love it. It still keeps its charm for the adventure time universe but also shows a darkness which we all know the original series does as well. The only difference is saying phrases like "suck my nuts" or "he's pissed" nothing too bad! When we usually get a "oh my glob!" Lol 😂 it's also great to see the characters as regular people in Fiona's world. Can't wait to see where the rest of it goes! But just from seeing these first 2 episodes I know it'll be great!

SO EXCITED
marisasep4 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Adventure time is one of my comfort shows and always has been. I love how this version is for those who are adults now and can relate to the dark tones and just feel happiness in the references. The way the original characters have grown and we get more information about these minor characters or these new characters is so nicely done. I feel like we can relate to Fiona not knowing what she wants in life and Simon not knowing how to adjust to the new world. I am so very excited for this whole season. Please everyone watch so it doesnt get cancelled and we can see this story play out and learn more about the characters.

there are only 2 episodes out right now, but i'm loving it already
personiama2 September 2023
I'm loving it, I remember watching some episodes of adventure time lot of time ago and recently got invested into it again, and woah, the whole show is a ride from start to finish, you can really see how much love was put into it, about this new spin-off, it's different, but in a good way. The first 2 episodes that came out are a total banger and they differ a bit from the adventure time episode formula, but still keeps it amazing.

From now on, there'll be some spoilers, so you'd better go watch the show before reading the rest of this review.

The show is rated TV-14, there aren't lots of swear words (there's some gore in the 2nd episode) but what makes it more "adult" are the themes in the show I think.

Fionna and Cake is Future Adventure Time Fantastic!
link8722 September 2023
I sit here writing this review hours after somewhat reluctantly watching the first two episodes, but oh man, was I in for a treat!

For a massive Adventure Time fan who has seen the base series more than a few dozen times and was a little disappointed with HBO's distant lands, I am awestruck how picture perfect the series (so far) has continued the story of the world and characters we love in the fashion of the later allegorically complex adventure time episodes while introducing new characters and worlds which intertwin perfectly together.

Upon hearing about the Fionna and Cake series that was announced I was reluctant, to say the least, that such a series could deliver the fans of adventure time a universe that was as exciting and relatable as the original and build upon the universe which we have grown with from children to adults. Not only was I wrong but It has gone one step further and placed the main character (Fionna), based on the character we love(Finn), into a more relatable world from the beginning.

A world which gives fans of the opposite gender a more relatable main character off the bat.

But don't worry like i did, characters from the regular adventure time world coexist in a way that is true to the adventure time world and more importantly feels natural and not forced. So Fionna and cake is as, or more so, relatable than base series Adventure Time and yet it is still a progression of the adventure time world.

This progression of the adventure time world which has been always changing and fluid over the series and grown with us as people from children to young adults continues to grow with us further into adulthood with Fionna and Cake.

Upon seeing Finn for the first time i was anxious and excited. Excited to see a character i love return but anxious to see how his character would be portrayed in his new future form. Following from his character progression into a confident man, who for the most part defeats his demons, he still has the adventurous spirit and a desire to help with nods to past episodes of Finn-development importance like 'The hall of egress' to introduce this new character. Similar struggles and concepts from our hero Finn are now developed further with his female counterpart and other characters we know and love in a similar way of allegorical storytelling and metaphor ambiguity with a more relatable mature world to meld it all together.

This mature world that has developed further with us now, to my pleasant surprise, introduces a feeling of greater realism and mortality with certain monsters spilling buckets of blood upon being killed for the first time in adventure time. Along with this mortality comes further maturity of 'sadness, madness and magic' with these themes of adventure time further developed in the sad, mad and magical world of Fionna and Cake. And while the maturity of adventure time progresses, so does the animation quality.

Something that was, as a professional artist, underdeveloped in HBO's last adventure time series; Distant lands, was the fluidity of the animation of the art which sold the magical world of adventure time as not just a stiff image transformed in an animation program, but the result of many frames of drawn animation. That is not to say it is the artists to blame, i know how and why these things may happen by working in an animation studio and more than likely it was underbudgeted and there was no reasonable time and artists to complete an animation epic with fluid like animation - cost saving would have compromised artistic quality.

But Fionna and Cake is anything but stiff animation. Every frame and movement has been more fluid and lifelike with more grandeur than before. Every frame is an artists hard work, every movement an artists dance of his digital pen. A natural progression of the quality of art in this show.

Fionna and Cake (so far) is nothing but an exceptional work of art. This 10 episode series is a natural progression of the adventure time universe with new and returning characters that are just as relatable to me as an adult as the first season was to me as a child. It's themes and allegorical storytelling continue to develop while remaining true to the fantastical world of Adventure Time while the technical animation quality and expressive artistic aesthetics further impress.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake is on the path to be nothing but 10 episodes of some of the best Adventure Time content around.

A week between episode is just too long to wait.

Just keep getting better
bgk-2672515 September 2023
For real one my first reviews Maybe 19 is an over reaction, but for real this is the I've seen for a while, let alone a sequel to a beloved franchise For me the best sequel to an original IP I have never seen Don't know about the next episodes but I'm beyond hyped.

So far really made possible the mature twist to a children cartoon You liked Adventure Time you're gonna love this.

Now the rest is gonna be filler so I can get the 600 words for the review But honestly it's amazing that we get One Piece Live Action proving we can do LA anime right and then this, proving we can make a more mature take on a series without taking anything, just building onto what we already had.

Nothing but a 10/10
belinda_diaz29 September 2023
As an adventure fan all time fan, I genuinely couldn't be happier. This show was perfect beginning to end. The treatment of the characters was by far the best thing about this show, like the amount of care and love that the makers put in this show is absolutely astonishing and the writing is honestly more than genius.

Everything about Simon and Betty was incredible, moving and exceptionally handled, the story was beautiful and everything built up perfectly for the final message of the show.

The action was amazing, the character and environment design was amazing, the stakes were high as hell and I just cannot be happier. For me, this is just at the same level as Adventure Time and Distant Lands (10/10) and yeah, I cried multiple times and I will do it again probably when I rewatch it. I'm just so thankful this exists and it didn't disappoint at all.

Fantastic
Wakhnd5 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is a production far beyond imagination, the designs of the characters are very interesting as the first two episodes were good, especially the second episode, Fionna's world was explained in the first episode, I liked some of the dialogues, and in the second episode, finn and simon go on an adventure, it is very entertaining. I will wait for more adventure time. At the end of the episode, I always wonder how the next episode will be, I think the third episode will be very good. Also, at the end of the second episode, a portal opens in Simon's head and a cake comes out, she'll probably put the leash that fell from the dog in the exhibition on her.

Masterful
theyezer22 September 2023
Fionna and Cake is my new favorite serie Growing up, I watched Adventure Time from the age of 12, and it was an absolute marvel. When the series ended, I craved more. Then, they brought in the 4 extra specials, and they were a delight to watch. I thought the show would never return with another season, but they did it. They brought a spin-off that, if the original series was already a wonder, this time they knocked it out of the park. It's an exceptional masterpiece that continues to showcase the show's unique blend of creativity, humor, and heart, leaving fans like me in awe of its enduring brilliance.

Not Quite Adventure Time
dmshrmed28 September 2023
I enjoyed watching this for the most part, but it often felt like watered down Adventure Time fan fiction. There's a good chance that that's what Fionna and Cake is supposed to be, so I'm not going to be too harsh on it. I just didn't feel as much of a connection to it as I wish I did.

Adventure Time is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, animated shows. I remember seeing the first few commercials for it ages ago on Cartoon Network and honestly thinking that it looked stupid. But when I watched it, I realized just how wrong my perception had been. The show undisputedly had a soul, and was unlike anything I'd seen up to that point.

Fionna and Cake, however, seems to be lacking some of that soul and imagination. It's not totally without it by any means, but it isn't able to match Adventure Time. It also feels strangely depressing in a way that is hard to describe. It's like it knows that it's depressing, but doesn't want to admit it. Maybe that feeling is intentional, but I can't say it improved the experience for me.

Tried watching this. Really tried. Every character is an entirely different in every way from the original series. I don't know what happened here but MAN I am disappointed. Didn't laugh at any of the jokes and was so uninterested at points I tuned out and had to rewind in order to remember what had happened 30 seconds ago. I'm the prime age this show is trying to cater to, but this just isn't it. I understand the direction they were trying to take this show in but they should've just made a new series unrelated to Adventure Time. If they would've though I think it would fail because I think this show only exists out of recognizability to a beloved franchise.

It's like a surprise birthday party
thiagsdo16 September 2023
I can't believe this is here. I had no idea this was coming out. Adventure time is one of the greatest TV shows to ever exist. I've watched up to episode 5 so far and while it doesn't hold all of the original charm of the original series it is bringing its own flavour to everything you loved about adventure time in, quite honestly, an extremely clever way. Just as you'd expect.

I löve the fact that it is a continuation from the same universe and not just a spin off. I am trying not to spoil anything for you so I'm not going to say what happens.

Each episode gets better and better so far. The nostalgia is almost overwhelming. Fans of adventure time, the adventure has returned!

Perfect showcase of the world of Adventure Time
maximusdavidclark2 October 2023
I have been a fan of adventure time and was devastated back when it ended, I have been waiting to see more projects like adventure time and the fans have not been disappointed. All 10 episodes of Fionna and Cake give the adventure time feel 3/4 episodes of distant lands didn't give me. No episodes had any parts that weren't good. It had a huge chance to show what something like adventure time could be when allowed to do things that they werent allowed to do in the original TV show. Fionna and Cake gave me a feeling I have not felt from a show in a while and balanced the ideas of romance, adventure, and overarching story very well.
