If you don't want to spend a fortune on repair or replacement of your automatic transmission, or entire car for that matter, follow this advice. Don't drive through deep water, shift from dive to reverse while moving, idle in drive for more than a minute or two, or do burnouts. Do ignore the owner's manual and change your transmission fluid periodically.

With fewer moving parts an electric car needs less maintenance. But the battery is the most expensive part and will eventually need to be replaced. Here's how to make it last as long as possible. Keep cool by avoiding direct sunlight when possible. Maintain a charge between 20% and 80%. Only charge to 100% for long trips between charges. Keep the electric motor clean so it doesn't draw more more than needed.
