In 2023, Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter, sent a letter to Iwakura and Yoshizumi’s Show, where he answered a bunch of questions that were asked of him by former Sakurazaka46 member Yumiko Seki about the show, its characters, its ending, and Togashi’s process of creating one of the greatest anime and manga series of all time.
Hunter x Hunter
One of the questions was about what Hunter x Hunter fans consider the most emotional scene in the series. It involved the death of Meruem, the main antagonist of the Chimera Ant arc, and Komugi, his only companion. The Chimera ant arc is the biggest arc in Hunter x Hunter and includes many action-based and emotional moments from the story.
While talking about the death scene, Togashi explained why Meruem’s final moments were portrayed on a black manga panel with white speech bubbles. He also talked...

Inspiration can strike from anywhere and everywhere, something Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi knows all too well. In both of his renowned works, there has been an exceptional display of skill as a writer as well as an artist. However, what is more eye-catching than anything else is the attention to detail put into the character designs.
Killua in Hunter x Hunter
There is never a solid source of inspiration. It could be the most life-changing movie or it could be a garbage can; there is no in-between. Togashi’s love for the dark and gory mixed with a yearning interest in the horror genre brings about a great deal of ideas that can lead to some of the most interestingly drawn panels.

In ancient times, the Etruscan civilization built elaborate underground tombs not to please human eyes but those of the spirit world. A similar spirit of feeling unbound from the pressures of the present-day animates Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera, a 1980s-set adventure following a roving group of tomb raiders who attempt to excavate and pillage these secret sanctuaries. The director has always depicted time as layered rather than strictly linear. The present exists not ahead the past but on top of it, and the moments she depicts will one day be history for another era. This vision lends the sensation that she, like the ancient culture she depicts, is communicating with something beyond our perception.
Rohrwacher finds a perfect partner in her search for the sublime with Josh O’Connor. The English actor provides a human incarnation of the director’s restless attempt to collapse the contradictions of time.

Stars: Gigi Zumbado, Stephen Dorff, Emile Hirsch, Vernon Wells, Erika Ervin, Tanner Zagarino | Written by Christopher Jolley | Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura
The Price We Pay is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, from a script written by Christopher Jolley, and stars Gigi Zumbado, Stephen Dorff, Emile Hirsch, Vernon Wells, Erika Ervin, and Tanner Zagarino; and follows a group of robbers and their hostage finding out that the farmhouse they’ve taken refuge in is far from the haven they thought it would be, forcing them to survive the owners’ onslaught…
Kitamura once again returns to the well of threadbare activities in secluded locations. This time, Jolley takes the helmer’s film to a farmhouse, and that’s right about where the plot developments end. It’s a simple and heavily disappointing choice to focus on nothing. After a prologue showing a prostitute being dumped at a quiet gas station and kidnapped by an as-of-yet-unseen figure,...

As Hispanic Heritage Month continues in the United States, a new report from the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative assesses the state of Hispanic and Latino representation in Hollywood’s top-grossing films.
The full study will be released next month, examining 1,600 top-grossing films released from 2007 to 2022 and more than 69,000 speaking characters, with qualitative data about how those Latino and Hispanic characters are presented in films, including whether they “stereotype or stigmatize” the community. It’s the third study analyzing Hispanic and Latino representation from the Initiative’s researchers, led by founder Dr. Stacy L. Smith.
According to the report, Hispanic/Latino actors filled just 10 leading or co-lead roles across last year’s 100 top-grossing films, and eight of those 10 roles went to Hispanic/Latina actors. In the 16-year span studied, just 76 actors filled lead or co-lead roles; 44 were Hispanic/Latina; and five were Hispanic/Latinas aged 45 and older.
Overall, the study showed...

Not every TV and film production will stop amid dual strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America. A host of projects stopped work after writers went on strike against media companies for better pay, streaming data transparency and protections against artificial intelligence (among other issues), and many more have paused since actors walked out on July 14.
There are exceptions, however. SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules allow for work on productions covered under different agreements, and the union can grant waivers or sign interim agreements with independent productions. Below is a list of TV shows and films that fall under those designations; this story will be updated as more productions earn waivers.
Interim Agreements
SAG-AFTRA has reached interim agreements with numerous independent productions, including movies from A24 (Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and Mother Mary with Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel) — which is not part...

When asked, in 2019, to explain why her first three features begin during the night, Alice Rohrwacher recalled the long drives she would take with her beekeeping father as a child and how, upon arrival, she’d play a game by closing her eyes: “I’d have to work it out from what I could hear, not from what I could see, so I’d listen to the place and the information would enter my mind––and then I’d open my eyes.” More than most filmmakers, Rohrwacher’s particular genius seems tied to her way of thinking: that cinema is less a reflection of our imagination than a natural extension. The best ideas in her cinema seem plucked from nowhere (Lazzaro‘s time jump; the red cake in Le Pupille), yet arrive fully formed––even organic.

To play Arthur, a gentleman archeologist-turned-tombaroli (illegal grave-robber) in Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera, British actor Josh O’Connor swapped the double-breasted bespoke suits he donned as Prince Charles on Netflix’s The Crown for a rumpled cream linen outfit that looks like its owner has worn through too many late night digs.
But the role in the Italian drama “is much more me than The Crown” was, says O’Connor. Ahead of his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor proves his working-class roots by head-swiveling at the sight of blue-collar directing icon Ken Loach, giving interviews just behind him on the roof of the festival Palais in Cannes, where La Chimera (and Loach’s The Old Oak) are screening in competition. “That’s Ken Loach over there!” O’Connor half-shouts/half-whispers, adding shyly, “he’s one of my heroes.”
