Oasis’ Noel Gallagher defended his decision to take inspiration from the music of The Beatles. He opined that Radiohead drew inspiration from one of the tracks from The White Album. The music of Ireland also became an inspiration for Oasis.
Oasis’ Noel Gallagher said The Beatles and another classic rock band inspired his group. In addition, he didn’t think there was anything wrong with drawing inspiration from earlier acts. Oasis recorded a version of The Beatles’ “I Am the Walrus” that is radically different from the Fab Four’s.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Meaner Than “Mean Girls.” Hotter Than “Heathers.” Better Than Barbenheimer.
I feel like kind of a basic bitch recommending “Jawbreaker” for After Dark. Don’t get me wrong: Darren Stein’s fiendishly messed-up mean girl movie from 1999 is absolutely worth canonizing as one of the all-time great midnight movies, and generally speaking, I’ll find — and use — any excuse to rewatch this camp masterpiece faster than Carol Kane can say, “Be nice, girls.”
But it feels borderline obvious to suggest this bonafide cult classic and ode to candy-coated cruelty, widely...

There was a stark contrast between Ringo Starr’s Beatles career and his post-Fab Four work. He drummed exclusively with The Beatles once he joined the band. The timekeeper worked with dozens of musicians when the group folded, never more so than when he started performing with his All-Starr Band. Ringo said he’d call on one particular drummer he has something in common with if his frequent timekeeping partner ever leaves the All-Starr Band.

Paul McCartney has been writing songs almost as long as he’s been alive. He played an Eddie Cochran song to impress John Lennon during an audition to join The Quarrymen, and the pair started writing originals soon after. The rest — The Beatles, Wings, a prolific solo career, being called an idiot by an artist who covered one of their songs — is history. But how many songs has Paul written? Let’s take a look.
Paul McCartney | Robert R. McElroy/Getty Images Paul McCartney has written at least 1,059 songs
John and Paul routinely shared songwriting credits on their Beatles tunes. Even if one contributed far more to the formulation of a song than the other (such as “The Ballad of John and Yoko”), both were listed as co-writers.
The duo started their own publishing company, Northern Songs, to house the rights to their music. The enterprise published hundreds of Fab Four songs.

Before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they were stepping down from their roles within the royal family, there was speculation that either the brothers or their wives had a falling out.
During the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey which aired in October 2019, the Duke of Sussex hinted that the rift was between him and his sibling who as he said were “on different paths.” Then in his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry noted that their feud had been brewing for years even though they kept up the appearance that things were fine. Now though a body language expert is looking back at an event where the princes didn’t hide their feelings well and their rift was actually on full display for the public to see.

Prince Harry is returning to the U.K. for King Charles’ coronation on May 6 and many are wondering what kind of reception he’ll get from the rest of the royal family. It’s been reported that his brother, Prince William, is very upset with him so no one expects the Duke of Sussex to be seen with or seated anywhere near the Prince and Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton). But what about Harry’s uncles, aunts, and cousins who have now had months to digest what the prince said about the family in his Netflix docuseries and memoir Spare?
Well, one royal will likely treat Harry the same way he did during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee festivities and he wasn’t warm or welcoming.

Hollywood writers are on strike for the first time in 15 years.
But the dramatically changed landscape that inspired the walkout — an industry that’s focus-shifted to streaming content — is also going to make it tougher for viewers to even notice their protest, hardship and sacrifice. At least in the near term.
This isn’t to weigh in on the writers’ reasons for striking. As their outraged reactions to the current round of talks have made clear, there are real issues on the table sparked by an entire industry distribution model that’s changed, and studios are alleged to be unwilling to engage on key points by the WGA.
Yet headwinds exist that weren’t around during the last strike, and they might result in a difficult walkout.
First, there’s the timing. The previous strike began in November 2007 — right at the start of the broadcast TV season and back when...

There’s a certain time of the year when many families decide to put their differences and disagreements with other relatives aside and be civil toward one another. That time is Christmas and in 2018 Meghan Markle and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) tried to do just that, but their clothes and body language told a different story, according to an expert.

It says something about The Beatles that we’re fascinated by their story decades after they broke up. Fans still want to learn more about the Fab Four, including John Lennon, who founded the band that became The Beatles. He might have hated some of the band’s songs, but music fans love hearing about John’s life. They can learn more with May Pang’s movie The Lost Weekend: A Love Story. Pang was lucky to become John’s assistant before she was his lover, and her documentary film reveals her side of the story of her relationship with the Beatles’ founder.

As kids and adults alike, millions of people dream of becoming movie stars. For some actors who make it, though, success on the big screen isn’t everything it’s built up to be. And while most still choose to stay, some stars leave Hollywood to pursue other careers. One such example is Charlie Korsmo, who played the son of Robin Williams’ character in Hook.
Korsmo’s face may be familiar to those who grew up in the 90s. The child star also appeared in movies like Dick Tracy. However, the actor’s career in Hollywood was short-lived, retiring from acting at a young age. Instead, Korsmo pursued a career in academia and is now a successful law professor.

Whoopi Goldberg gifted her guest, Hugh Grant, with a bottle of moisturiser on The View after the actor made a self-deprecating joke about his skin at the Oscars.
Grant presented the Academy Award for Production Design during Sunday’s (12 March) ceremony alongside fellow veteran actor Andie MacDowell.
On stage, Grant joked that the two Four Weddings and a Funeral costars served as a “vital” reminder to moisturise.
“Still stunning,” Grant said, gesturing to MacDowell before pointing to his own face and stating: “Basically a scrotum.”
“I was nervous – I wrote that joke and I was extremely nervous about it,” Grant revealed on The View this week.
“Sigourney Weaver said to me afterwards, ‘You don’t look like a scrotum,’ and she liked the joke,” the Love Actually star added. “So that relaxed me.”

The way The Beatles broke up seemed to make a reunion impossible. John Lennon once said he and Paul McCartney were so good they could have been The Beatles without George Harrison and Ringo Starr. That seems doubtful even though Paul and John wrote most of the songs. Still, John and Paul’s tattered relationship as the Fab Four fractured made regrouping next to impossible. Paul signed a contract that proved he believed a Beatles reunion might happen, but the closest they ever came to getting back together was a Ringo solo album.

Franklin Jonas was just a teenager when his dad was being treated for cancer. To cheer him up, he’d sit by his bedside, playing songs for him. “I would make just the worst trap beats for him,” Jonas recalls over Zoom. “And he liked them for some reason.”
Back then, music was a new passion for Jonas, something he had just started exploring. Sure, he’d grown up alongside his famous siblings the Jonas Brothers, but he wanted to carve out his own path and see what he could do.

The Beatles altered the musical landscape with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and not just with the music. Its kaleidoscopic color-bomb collage cover stood in stark contrast to many albums of the era. It was the first album the Fab Four released after they stopped touring and put a nail into the coffin of Beatlemania that John Lennon wanted to hammer for years. Sgt. Pepper’s cover included dozens of famous faces in addition to John, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Ringo worked with two of them on notable projects outside of The Beatles.

This article contains spoilers about "Knock at the Cabin."
We all know that there's no such thing as a 1:1 adaptation. Even something like Zack Snyder's "Watchmen," which brings exact panels to life complete with the original comic book dialogue, futzed with the ending. There are still some comic book fans who are angry about the lack of giant squid to this very day.
It's to be expected that any adaptation is going to come with some changes. Reading a book is different from watching a movie, after all, and a good screenwriter will know when to change things up for a visual storytelling medium and when the original text had it right. Steve Desmond, Michael Sherman, and M. Night Shyamalan's take on Paul Tremblay's "The Cabin at the End of the World" is very faithful ... until it isn't. And then it very much changes the core...

Streaming may have partly usurped the splashy Emmy-nominated dramas that once populated broadcast television, but one arena the new entertainment medium still has trouble competing with (“Hacks” aside) in is sitcoms. The Big Four networks still produce the bulk of the most successful half-hour comedies in the business and arguably the brightest new addition to the sitcom realm last TV season was ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.” Ahead of the Season 2 premiere September 21, and as part of TheWrap’s Fall TV Preview, writers and executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker spoke us about what has and hasn’t changed as the show prepares its return, and how real life bleeds into the characters.
TheWrap: ‘Abbott Elementary’ follows distinct but grounded characters and this very organic sense of humor. Did you need to tweak that recipe when approaching Season 2?
Justin Halpern: It’s me, Pat and [creator/star] Quinta [Brunson], and we just sit...

Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, is one of Michael Waldron’s favourite Marvel characters. So when Waldron had the opportunity to write Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness for Marvel Studios, he knew he had to include Reed Richards, even if it had no chance of happening… or so he thought.
Related Poll: What’s your favorite Summer 2022 blockbuster
As we know, Reed Richards did appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as played by John Krasinski, but Michael Waldron had originally scripted an entirely different cameo for the hero. Waldron told Empire that he “always wanted Reed Richards in this thing” and included him in the first draft of the script.
In my very first draft, I wrote a tag just for the hell of it, of the events of the movie being recorded and reviewed by somebody in the Baxter Building, and a stretchy hand...

Four Days of our Lives hunks have started a new band, The Day Players, and they are going on tour this fall.
Wally Kurth (Justin), Eric Martsolf (Brady), Brandon Barash (Stefan/Jake), and Carson Boatman (Johnny) have teamed up to make some music.
All of the guys have incredible talent. Wally’s talent has been featured on Days and General Hospital, as his character, Ned, was once a rockstar.
Brandon used to be in the band Port Chuck featuring his former General Hospital costars Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Steve Burton (ex-Jason), and Scott Reeves (ex-Steve).
As for Eric, he has sung at several Days of our Lives fan events over the years and released a few singles too.
Last but not least, Carson sang country music long before working in daytime television.

Zayn Malik has shocked fans by sharing a beautiful rendition of "Night Changes" on his Instagram - a song from One Direction's 2014 album "Four." The video comes seven years after Malik left the band to embark on a solo career and made some controversial comments while reflecting on his time in the group. His latest social media video marks the second time Malik has sung a nostalgic One Direction tune this year, and it has left fans asking: what does this mean?
Malik has publicly spoken of how he "never really wanted to be . . . in the band," noting he doesn't really talk to his former bandmates anymore. Yet after years as a solo artist, loyal Directioners have taken these mysterious videos as hints that a reunion is on the horizon.

Nothing ever changes, it seems. Zayn Malik is delighting fans with a soulful and sentimental video he posted to Instagram.
The singer — whom many credit for the disbanding of One Direction after he left the group to go solo — shared the black-and-white clip on Monday, which shows him singing his former band’s 2014 single “Night Changes.”
“Everything that you’ve ever dreamed of/ Disappearing when you wake up/ But there’s nothing to be afraid of./ Even when the night changes/ It will never change me and you,” Malik, 29, crooned in the video, belting out part of the ballad’s romantic chorus.

British singer Zayn Malik seems to be marinating in nostalgia at least that’s what his social media post suggests. Zayn, who was earlier a part of the English-Irish boy pop band ‘One Direction’, shared a video on his Instagram on Tuesday.
The 30-second black-and-white video shows Zayn singing One Direction’s 2014 single ‘Night Changes’, reports ‘Billboard’.
In the new video, Malik sings the second half of the chorus — originally recorded by bandmate Harry Styles – crooning, “Everything that you’ve ever dreamed of/ Disappearing when you wake up/ But there’s nothing to be afraid of/ Even when the night changes/ It will never change me and you.”
While Malik mostly avoids addressing his days in One Direction, this is actually the second time he’s revisited the band’s catalogue on social media in the last three months.

As of late, every major fest has included some degree of television in its programming. But Tribeca is demonstrating a new level of commitment to episodic content with Tribeca TV, an entire festival dedicated to the small screen (to use an increasingly antiquated term).
Running September 22-24 in New York, Tribeca TV will feature the world premieres of the upcoming new series “At Home with Amy Sedaris,” as well as “Designated Survivor” Season 2 and “Red Oaks” Season 3. Also getting special previews are Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated “Better Things,” the fourth season of “Gotham,” the upcoming Sundance TV miniseries “Liar,” and NBC’s revival of classic sitcom “Will & Grace.”

Four roles were cast for Fox’s Batman prequel series Gotham. Robin Lord Taylor will play Oswald Cobblepot, a lowlife who eventually becomes The Penguin. Zabryna Guevara was picked for Jim Gordon‘s boss Captain Essen (who may be inspired by Sarah Essen), Erin Richards will be Jim’s fiancee Barbara Kean while Sean Pertwee is set as Alfred Pennyworth, an ex-marine protecting the young Bruce Wayne.
Meanwhile, epic casting news for the CW’s Flash pilot, which added John Wesley Shipp in an unspecified role. Some of you will recall that Shipp played Barry Allen the last time anyone attempted a Flash TV series. Is it too early to start wishing for a role for Amanda Pays (Shipp’s Flash co-star)?
John Wesley Shipp in The Flash, pre-Dawson’s Creek, post-Guiding Light.

A husband (Craig Conway) pays a detective (Sean Pertwee) to bring his wife (Kierston Wareing) and her lover (Martin Compston) to an abandoned warehouse so that he can torment them, punish them and extract the truth from them. Inevitably, all is not as it seems and a number of power-plays develop as the truth is gradually unveiled.
*****
Mention is often made of films feeling stage-bound, theatre pieces that belong on the stage instead of the small or big screens. This is undoubtedly such a film – four principals, one set, lots of talking. Well, lots of sweary shouting. The husband seems altogether unsure of his objectives, wanting confessions and/or revenge, but lacking the gumption to see through the very worst of his impulses. The detective seems the most decisive, the most “together”, but the script has plenty of to and fro to offer as it works towards its satisfying denouement.

War Horse; Strippers vs Werewolves; Four; Buck
Among the charges most regularly levelled at Steven Spielberg is that his movies are over-egged puddings that trade in rank melodrama and infantilising sentimentality. A whinnying chorus of such dismissive jeers greeted the arrival of War Horse (2011, DreamWorks, 12) late last year, with some predictably sniffy manure being thrown at this most populist auteur's emotional Grand National. Admittedly neither understatement nor brevity has ever been Spielberg's strong point, hence the much repeated joke: War Horse walks into a bar, barman says: "Why the long film?"
Yet to complain that this nostalgically cinematic adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's bestselling book (and feted stage adaptation) is somewhat soft around the edges is to forget that the source story was specifically aimed at younger readers. No, this is not a four-legged revisiting of the beach scenes from Saving Private Ryan, which portrayed the horrors of war in shockingly visceral form.

We’ve got an exclusive look tonight at some rather fine artwork for Airborne, the latest film from Dominic Burns and it’s an effective tease for what looks to be an intriguing horror film.
Burns has assembled a nicely diverse cast for the film which includes Simon Phillips, Jazz Lintott, Craig Conway, Alan Ford, Billy Murray and Julian Glover as well as the return of Mark Hamill to the big screen.
We spoke to the Star Wars actor last year on set and he was very enthusiastic about the project which lines up nicely alongside Burns’ next film, UFO, which features Jean-Claude Van Damme as part of the cast.
Paul Chronell, writer of last year’s thriller Four, is on scripting duties here and we’ve already had a look at the teaser trailer for the film (which you can see here) and have this as a brief synopsis,...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? The Hunter Trailer This certainly has a nice pedigree. Having a film being executive produced by the man who brought us Animal Kingdom, being based...

We’re pretty big fans of Sean Pertwee at HeyUGuys. The man is in a ridiculously high number of our favourite movies, and he’s also a lovely chap, so when he invited us down to Pertwee Anderson Gold, his art gallery in Soho, for a chat about his forthcoming film Four, we jumped at the opportunity.
Although it is an art gallery, Pertwee Anderson & Gold feels a lot more intimate and friendly than most, with a large entrance space, and several smaller rooms. It was designed by Dennis Schnegg, who worked as Art Director on films like Sunshine, 28 Days Later and Never Let Me Go, and while the wooden floors and moulded architraves look like they’ve been there for decades, they’re actually barely a year old.
During the course of the interview we talked about his upcoming roles, how his love of art, and owning a gallery compliments his career.

Much as he did with Traffic, Soderbergh connects the dots of a global issue and makes it look like something authoritative and contemporary rather than a celebrity disaster movie. Here it's a viral pandemic, briskly tracked in forensic detail and techno-backed montages. The response from health authorities and the panicked populace is all too credible, though once the dots are connected, we're too freaked out to remember why we were supposed to be watching.
