The Rockhampton Rapist
a_baron12 June 2014
For a country with such a small population, Australia has produced more than its fair share of sickos, and they don't come any worse than rapist/child murderer/serial killer (and very likely necrophiliac) Leonard John Fraser. Fraser had spent twenty of the previous twenty-two years behind bars when he kidnapped, raped and murdered 9 year old Keyra Steinhardt. The abduction was witnessed by two people, and it didn't take long to identify him as the prime indeed the only suspect.

The only thing more shocking than this crime is the fact that Fraser had two previous convictions for rape. He had already served one sentence when in 1985 an attack on a young woman earned him a 12 year sentence which he served in full. In the UK or the US at that time he would have received a life sentence. One police officer interviewed here said he found it surprising Fraser was still on the street.

It is clear from this programme that in spite of this, Fraser had no difficulty in forming ordinary relationships with albeit far from ordinary women.

Fraser led the authorities to the young girl's body, but the investigation led much further, and he would soon come under suspicion for four other murders. He led the authorities to three of their bodies, but the fourth victim, Natasha Ryan, turned up alive after being missing for five years. She sold her story to the press and then said she had never met him.

There is a lot more in this documentary, including reconstructions. Fraser died January 1, 2007 aged 55. He had a history of heart trouble, though it is difficult to believe such a monster had a heart. There is also evidence that he may have committed at least three other murders.
