- Peter returns from Dubai unannounced in order to 'put his foot down' and convince Lou to come back with him. Lou, in spite of her recent partnership with Lisa regarding the Dude Ranch, is still having difficulty relinquishing control of her business. Lisa has her own ideas about where to take the Dude Ranch, ideas which clash horribly with Lou's own original concept.
Meanwhile, during a ride Amy and Ty come across a loose donkey that belongs to Hudson's resident 'hermit', "Crazy" Sarah Craven. Upon returning 'Lucky' to Sarah's property, they discover her horse, 'Falcon', is afflicted with horrible sores on his legs. Sarah doesn't appreciate their presence and threatens them with a shotgun, declaring she's been taking care of Falcon for a long time, and that she doesn't need help. She eventually decides to let them take Falcon to Heartland once she realises that Amy is Marion's daughter.
As they wait for word of diagnosis from Scott, they learn of Sarah's past, and the reasons for her bitterness and life of solitude. She believes her husband walked out on her twenty years ago, and has lived in isolation ever since.
Sarah is eventually able to get some closure when Mallory and Badger make a startling discovery after tumbling down an abandoned well near Sarah's home.
Lou learns from Sarah's mistakes, and makes it clear to Peter that she wants to make their marriage work.
