In a seamless almost magical way, the writers of this episode have interwoven several elements into a very effective episode. Amy's kindness helps the hermit who knew her mother. The lonely hermit helps Lou. The hermit's donkey helps the abused horse, who finds a forever home with the hermit whose horse had to stay in the hospital with a bleak prognosis which in turn helped Amy dig deeper into her mother's journals of herbal remedies. Mallory and Badger's discovery in the adandoned well leads to the hermit lady finding the remains of the husband she mistakenly thought had abandoned her long ago. All are about levels of abandonment and abuse. And the connections we humans rely on so much, even when we don't realize it. This episode is a shining example of why this show has remained an international hit series on TV for so many years.
