Just three films old, but Subhash Kapoor is today a name to reckon with where quality films are concerned. Moreover, he is still the affable, approachable guy who I have known since Say Salaam India released in 2007. Over the years, we have talked films and critiqued blockbusters in our private conversations.
With every film, Subhash has stamped his 'identity' and Jolly Llb was just what the lawyer, oops... Doctor had ordered. With a few days left for the release of Guddu Rangeela, the hatke director with an eye for detail takes time out to talk about his early days, Gr, his star cast, the actor who lavished the biggest compliment on him and the actor to watch out for...

New Delhi, Sep 28: Cinema is often known to portray what is depicted in society. But instead of merely mirroring society films must strive to bring about change, says Bollywood director Subhash Kapoor.
"There is a lot of stereotyping in Hindi cinema. These stereotypes exist in society. Cinema does not change it, it portrays it. This must change," Kapoor said here during a panel discussion on 'Tracking the trajectory of the secular/communal impulse of Indian cinema'.
The discussion was held here Friday as part of a seminar 'Secularism and the Arts'.
Kapoor has helmed movies like "Phas Gaye Re Obama" and "Jolly.

The most disappointing kind of film is one you really want to like – for its earnestness, its noble intentions, its sincere actors – but are not able to. Director Subhash Kapoor’s earlier film Phas Gaye Re Obama was a gem of a satire. Jolly Llb doesn’t even come close to the brilliance of that one.
Struggling lawyer Jagdish Tyagi aka Jolly (Arshad Warsi) moves to Delhi from Meerut for better opportunities but soon realises that things are as bleak as they were back home. Impressed by the high-profile advocate Rajpal (Boman Irani) and desperate to make things happen in his life, he files a Pil that is guaranteed to get him the media spotlight. It starts out as a publicity stunt but slowly turns into a life-changing decision for him. Encouraged by his girlfriend Sandhya (Amrita Rao), Jolly develops a conscience and decides to fight for justice.

New Delhi, Feb 11: Subhash Kapoor, writer-director of 2010 satire "Phas Gaye Re Obama", is not sure if he will be associated with the sequel of the movie.
Producer Ashok Pandey had reportedly announced a 'part two' of the comedy film last year, but Kapoor said: "I don't think there's any scope for part two."
"I don't think if one movie works, a second part should be made. I don't subscribe to that," he told Ians.
For now, the journalist-turned-filmmaker is busy spreading a buzz about his forthcoming movie "Jolly L.L.B", a satire on the Indian law system.

Mumbai, Jan 9: Director Subhash Kapoor, whose new film "Jolly L.L.B." is a satire on the country's judiciary system, says humour makes it easier for a message-based movie to reach a wide audience.
The director, who had earlier helmed the satire "Phas Gaye Re Obama", narrated an incident to prove his point.
"When you go to courts, there are about three-and-half crore cases pending in India. There are people in jail since 15 years and their hearing has not yet started. I met a guy at the Tis Hazari courts in Delhi. For his property, his family has declared him dead on papers, and he has been fighting a case since six years.

The surprise hit of 2010- Phas Gaye Re Obama- is all set for a sequel but this time there are a few changes to the cast and crew. Firstly, the film won't be directed by Subhash Kapoor (who directed the first part) but by his associate director Anshul Sharma. Besides while actors like Sanjay Mishra, Manu Rishi and Amole Gupte will be seen in the sequel, Neha Dhupia and Rajat Kapoor won't be a part of the sequel. Producer Ashoke Pandey said the he didn't want to include actors unless their character made sense to the script and hence had to do away with Rajat and Neha. The sequel to Phas Gaya Re Obama is expected to release in the summer of 2012.
