The lady in the audience who gets up onstage to teach the cast was actually doing the Tahitian Tamure dance (also called 'o'tea tahiti in Tahitian) and not the Hawaiian hula. She did ask Carol if she wanted to be taught Tahitian or Hawaiian dance, but Carol kept repeating "Hawaiian". The rear and rapidly moving in a figure 8, and hips moving swiftly to drums is always the national Tahitian dance---traditional from ancient Tahiti---and has nothing to do with Hawaiian dancing. However, Hawaii routinely showcases Tahitian dancing at tourist restaurants, without explaining the difference, which confuses American tourists. This is true cultural appropriation.
