Through no fault of Sally Field, her new movie “Hello, My Name Is Doris” kept making me think about Carol Kane. Field plays a hoarder, but unlike Kane’s character in the recent indie “Clutter,” Doris is the cute kind, one whose house remains spotless despite stacks of junk in every room. Her easy-to-clear mess turns out to be mostly metaphorical, without the sad reality of rotting food or genuine mental illness. And since Doris goes mostly unnoticed by her young, obnoxious Manhattan co-workers, I hoped she would snap like Kane in Cindy Sherman’s “Office Killer” and take us to a.

Carol Kane has been charming audiences ever since playing the beloved Simka on the 1980s sitcom "Taxi." Since then, she's earned a spot in the memories of multiple generations of audiences who loved her as Valerie in "The Princess Bride," as the Ghost of Christmas Present in "Scrooged" and Granny in "Addams Family Values." Kane has also worked steadily in independent films over the years, including, most recently, "Clutter," directed by Diane Crespo. Kane plays Linda, a compulsive hoarder who suffers from depression. After the death of her husband, she develops a tendency to keep the people and things she loves close at hand, including her adult children, played by Joshua Leonard, Natasha Lyonne and Halley Feiffer. Indiewire chatted with Kane about being a woman in Hollywood, how she got into character for "Clutter" and her love for silent movies. "Clutter" is available to stream on various VOD platforms beginning today.

There's physical clutter and then emotional clutter, but sometimes the two converge in unexpected ways, and that's what comes together in Diane Crespo's appropriately titled, "Clutter." Written by Paul Marcarelli ("The Green"), and starring Carol Kane, Natasha Lyonne, Joshua Leonard, Dan Hedaya, Kathy Najimy and more, the story follows the Bradford family, who are in danger of losing their home after a visit from the county health department. And the dysfunctional group—which includes unemployed filmmaker Charlie, eccentric mother Linda, the unreliable Lisa, and the shy Penny—must attempt to get their lives in order, sort out lingering resentments and much more, before they can move on. In this exclusive trailer, you'll see how the Bradfords try and keep it together as everything falls apart. "Clutter" is available on iTunes starting on May 8th. Watch below.

Some on the list are traditional assaults and some are more unique, but we think we've got it narrowed down to...

When Diane Crespo, who directed the 2007 indie friendship film "Arranged," received the script for "Clutter," she was enthralled. "When you have a production company, you get a lot of scripts," Crespo told Indiewire. "You get three pages into a script, and you know how you feel about it. In this case, I got to page 23, and I realized I wasn't judging it, I was reading it, enjoying it. "It is a dark comedy with a rhythmic way of working with dialogue. It seemed very natuarl to me. I liked the three women in this family. And I liked the idea of doing something about a hoarder. Other than the TLC show, I haven't seen anything like it." "Clutter" stars Joshua Leonard ("Humpday," "The Blair Witch Project") as Charlie, an artist who is trying to keep himself away from the hectic home life he was raised in. We still haven't gotten over how utterly depressing and terrible it is that a major TV network features people with extreme hoarding problems for the public to gawk at. (We hope it helps those afflicted with the bizarre condition, at least.) Now comes news from THR that dark comedy Clutter will star awesome funnylady Carol Kane as a compulsive hoarder. Joshua Leonard, Natasha Lyonne and Halley Feiffer play the siblings that have to help mom clean up her overloaded house before she is forced to evacuate it. Maria Dizzia, Daniel London, Dan Hedaya, and Kathy Najimy also star. Filming starts this month, and Kane is a veteran talent that should be perfect for that added quirk — for those of you who prefer your obsessive hoarders extra wacky and fun. Deadline reports that...

Good news for fans of Carol Kane, the daffy comedienne who made unforgettably funny appearances in such '80s classics as The Princess Bride and Scrooged has signed on to star as the hoarder at the center of Diane Crespo's soon-to-shoot dark comedy Clutter. Since A&E's Hoarders debuted in 2009, the compulsion to keep absolutely everything has fascinated American audiences, so it's pretty surprising that it has taken so long for a movie to be made about this absorbing obsession. Of course, the subject matter could easily be made exploitative and mocking. Yet Kane's style of comedy is more known for its silliness than any sort of malice, so it seems unlikely Clutter will be cruel in tone. Now, much like the plotline of nearly every episode of Hoarders, THRreveals that Clutter centers on Linda (Kane), a mother whose grown children step in to help her clean her home...

It’s been a tough road for Natasha Lyonne. Throughout the late ‘90s, the big-eyed, frizzy-haired actress made a name for herself playing tough-yet-vulnerable young women in both noted indie fair (But I’m a Cheerleader, Slums of Beverly Hills) and mainstream hits (American Pie). Her promising career took a nosedive, however, after a public battle with substance abuse, tussles with the law, and multiple health problems left her a has-been before she turned 25.
Now, after a decade of obscurity, the 32-year-old actress is slowly making a comeback. She recently appeared on the hit show New Girl, rejoined her fellow American Pie alums for the franchise’s latest – and, hopefully, final – sequel, the soon-to-be-released American Reunion, and will be seen with Kristen Wiig when Imogene hits later this year. And the work just keeps coming.
