Well.. if I rate a film 4/10 and say it was a positive surprise, you probably already know what I was expecting. It's just that Sophie Schütt and Hardy Krüger Jr. have done so many crappy television movies in their careers that I really didn't have high expectations. This is a German television movie which runs for slightly under 90 minutes and was made over 2 years ago. It probably helped this film that the director is pretty experienced already and the writer worked on (internationally) known movies such as "Nordwand". Apart from the ones I mentioned, also Brauer and von Weitershausen could be known to German audiences. Both have pretty long careers. Younger audiences will like seeing Hanna Binke in here, the star of the "Ostwind" horse movie franchise.
The film is rarely good in terms of drama and there is basically no comedy at all in here. A woman decides to move to Sweden and take her kids with her. The father of the children objects as he does not want to fly there once a month to see his kids. He also has a new partner and she is about to have one too. Criticisms for me are that Krüger Jr.'s character has to be so famous and super-successful once again and that the ending is really as happy as it gets and comes completely out of nowhere with the arguments that were going on before that. They sacrificed credibility for a feel-good ending and I never like that. At least the two protagonists did not become a couple again. Now that would have been downright bad. Admittedly Schütt and Krüger are better here than usual. The latter is the son of the Golden Globe nominee with the same name by the way. Sadly, he didn't get much of his talent if there is much. I am not really familiar with the older Hardy Krüger's body of work. I liked the music in here. The All Saints song is good and "If a song could get me you" is a nice number too, even if it does not really (at all!) fir the plot.
