Perhaps you have asked yourself when our cultural obsession with vampires will finally wane. The answer: today.
As a serious journalist, I am proud to present to you the trailer for a new film called Vampire Dog. Shot with admirable low-budget, no-frills charisma, it looks to be a proudly abysmal film that will embarrass the cast later in life — if it doesn’t already embarrass them now. Former Saturday Night Live funnyman Norm Macdonald voices the 600-year-old dog, Fang. Perhaps the possibility of this fate is why Jason Sudeikis decided to return to SNL.

Television would look a little bit different if I was in charge. Conan O'Brien would still be the host of "The Tonight Show." An entire channel would be devoted to analyzing the intricacies of the most complex show on television, "The Bachelor." And one of the funniest show on TV, "Sports Show With Norm Macdonald" would definitely not have just gotten cancelled by Comedy Central. Simply put, this is devastating news.
I'm a Norm partisan from way back. He was my guy on "Weekend Update" when I was a kid, and I loved him. Some very talented people have followed in his wake including Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, and Seth Meyers, but Norm brought something different: a fearlessness and an edge that no one else at that desk has had before or since. "Weekend Update" is still consistently funny, week in and week out, but it's almost too funny; Norm's...

It seems it's not such a sporting life at Comedy Central after all. The network confirmed to TheWrap that it has canceled "Sports Show With Norm Macdonald" and "Onion SportsDome." "SportsDome," based on "The Onion Sports Network" by satirical newspaper The Onion, debuted in January and wrapped its first season in mid-March. "Sports Show," featuring former "Saturday Night Live" comedian Norm Macdonald, made its bow in April and completed its maiden season last week. Fans of Sports Show with Norm Macdonald are probably uttering a collective, “Wait, what?” today, as a Comedy Central spokesperson confirmed that the network will “not be moving forward with production on a new season of Sports Show.” The Macdonald-hosted comedy, which lampooned the world of sports, wrapped up its first season earlier this month, averaging 1.1 million viewers in the Tuesdays-at-10:30 p.m. slot.
Macdonald quipped to EW that he had not been “officially” informed of the bad news, noting, “A Minute with Stan Hooper is still officially on hiatus,” a reference to his short-lived 2003 Fox sitcom. He also...

After launching two sports news shows this year, Comedy Central is not continuing with either. The cable network has decided not to go forward with a second season of Sports Show With Norm Macdonald, which ended its freshman season June 7, or Onion SportsDome, which wrapped its first season March 15. Onion SportsDome premiered with 1.5 million viewers, Sports Show With Norm Macdonald with 1 million, both airing behind Comedy Central's top-rated series Tosh.0. Jon Benjamin Has a Van, which succeeded them in the slot, opened with 1.16 million last Tuesday. For the Onion, this was one of two branded series that launched in the past few months. The other, Onion News Network on IFC, has been renewed for a second season.

While I was on the phone talking to Norm MacDonald last week, I heard what sounded like paper crumpling. When I asked him if I was talking to him during his lunch, he said, "No, no, no, no. That noise? No, no, that's just a potato chip bag being opened."
Anyone who's seen Norm over the years -- from his memorable stint as the anchor of 'Weekend Update' on 'SNL,' his late-'90s sitcom 'Norm,' silly movies like 'Dirty Work' or his stand-up act -- knows how funny he would make that exchange.
Norm just doesn't give a crap, whether it's about being interviewed by reporters or talk show hosts, starring in a sitcom, or any of the other trappings of show business. He just cares about comedy, done his way. It's been a pretty successful formula, given how long he's hung around.

Sports and comedy have always had a tricky relationship for a number of reasons, and no real dominant or even successful “sports comedy show” has ever emerged from the vast television ether. This isn’t for lack of trying (Ed Note: I cannot believe that website is still up), but is more a function of sports fandom and comedy nerdery not overlapping often enough to create a viable television niche for the combination. As a result, sports fans — an already largely-insatiable cross-section of the populace — have been forced to make due with television’s occasional substandard attempts to marry sports and humor, with highly cancellable results. Yes, this sentence was another excuse to link the Mohr Sports site again. Timeless Keith Van Horn joke though! This year, Onion Sportsdome has provided an extremely welcome exception to the rule — it’s hilarious, the production values are high, and it’s legitimately satirical,...
