A for effort
In the age of Social media, where literally all anyone needs is a cameraphone to "create" a web series, "The Closet" was actually a unique and novel idea or its time. Released in 2005 (and most likely filmed/edited even years before that) the story centers around characters living in Atlanta who are either gay/in the closet or dating/married to someone who is. The cast is predominantly black, and the style/feel is definitely reminiscent of a 1970s soap opera. The actors themselves are...well...reminiscent of a 1970s soap opera. There are some surprisingly good performances from actors with a very wide range (the actress Rachel definitely stands out) and there is a decent amount of eye-candy, but on the opposite end of the spectrum it was clear that this was for some their first time acting (Evan Allison is beyond Vaudevillian in his delivery and really came off as a giant face-palm every scene he showed up in). So, if you want some light, gay-themed soap-opera and can get past the low-budget (going from a palatial antebellum Georgian exterior then cutting to a kitchenette with formica counter-tops requires one to REALLY suspend their disbelief) then I'd say give this one a try. And we'll see you all on the North PahteeOh...
