The girl from the past

Creatively directed and powerfully presented by all the actors. One of the most engaging and involving japanese short dramas I have watched till date. Never got bored while watching the series, the story flows effortlessly smooth. The quality of acting displayed, especially by the two leads is just brilliant. Not for a single minute you will feel that they were acting, it is uniquely authentic. The best aspect about this series is that you can watch it from start to end in a matter of few hours. If you are looking for something new & fresh, you will surely love it. From well choreographed action scenes to hilariously funny comedy, and from sweet love story to tragic plot twists, this series has it all. Eagerly waiting for season 2.

Definitely worth to watch!!!

A quite new series of films. It not only captures the traditional beauty of Japan but also blends reality with mythology in a harmonious way. The actors have given their all in their roles.

Most Japanese films have unpredictable plot twists, creating one surprise after another. While watching, I went from one mood to another. Sometimes it's really funny, but it also contains many incredibly touching moments.

Thus, I was impressed by the lead actress, Ai Yoshikawa. I really admire her and all the dramas she has starred in are excellent. Amazon has invested heavily in visual effects, and I'm really looking forward to the second season of this series too.

Super Fun Show!
HG00223 March 2024
This show is so great. It's super fun and strikes a great tone - it's funny and light but still grounded. It's also got a mystery included and a well thought out mythological background.

The show follows college student Tadashi (Hachi) as he navigates his college life after he accidentally summons a Yokai (a Japanese demon) to be his girlfriend. It's a fun pairing that lends itself to lots of comedic moments since he's a shy gamer and the Yokai (Izzy) is a confident warrior. The acting is super charming, all the actors do an excellent job, especially Sano Hayato (Hachi) and Yoshikawa Ai (Izzy). I hope it gets a second season. More of this, please!

Excellent J-Drama! Just too short.
Sanjiro914 April 2024
"Boku no Itoshii Youkai Girlfriend or My Undead Yokai Girlfriend" on Amazon Prime is an absolute gem of a J-Drama that had me hooked from the first episode to the last! As a fan of Japanese folklore, J-Dramas and quirky love stories, this show hit all the right notes for me.

I couldn't get enough of the captivating storyline, where our lonely college student, Tadashi, and the Yokai girl, Izzy, form an unexpected bond through magic. The blend of supernatural elements with human emotions kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating each twist and turn. I binged the whole show in one night!

The cast's performances were outstanding, with each actor bringing their character to life in a way that made me feel fully immersed in their world. Actress Ai Yoshikawa played her role beautifully and I found myself rooting for Tadashi and Izzy's relationship, while also eagerly awaiting the revelation of Izzy's true intentions.

Sure, the ending felt a bit rushed, but that just left me hungry for more! I'm already counting down the days until a second season is announced (Fingers Crossed). "My Undead Yokai Girlfriend" is a must-watch for anyone who loves enchanting tales of love, mystery, and magic. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

A must watch!

Absolutely great, loved the story line, the lighthearted characters and everything around it. This is a great tv show to watch to relax, it is not super romantic, it had a little bit of comedy and thriller and everything really. We loved it!

The characters were developed masterfully, you know everything about them at a perfect timing, you learn to love all of them and getting to know their storyline throughout the drama.

I really hope there is a season 2 because it left some open threads that seems to be really Interesting for an upcoming season.

Soundtrack is also great, I haven't seen something like this in a while, absolutely loved it!

Koreans just do it better
It's an okay series, but there are plenty of better series with supernatural elements, if that's your cup of tea. The characters here just feel terribly dumb, and both the pacing and storytelling are a bit off somehow. The visual effects aren't anything to write home about either.

They obviously try very hard to be funny, but the humour doesn't really work that well, unfortunately. Maybe for teenagers? Or perhaps things get lost in translation for a European like me who doesn't speak Japanese? This style is just so much better made in Korea, can't help it.

P. S: If you want to see a good series with Youkais, try Tale of Nine Tales, it's quite romantic though.

Hopefully there will be a second season.

Really looking forward to the sequel, I hope there are no murders or people dying in vain, and more slice of life moments that are funny and entertaining.

I like Izzy's innocent and very cute appearance when facing contemporary Japanese life.

Who knows who the bad guy is actually doesn't really matter, because the attraction of this series is the romantic relationships. The many interests and points of view make it feel complicated and difficult to determine whose side the audience should side with.

Some unimportant characters somehow have to be sacrificed and die without making significant story developments. I'd rather have them stay alive and experience character development. For example, a character with the ability to change shape. It appeared very quickly, and then suddenly it had to end.

I'm really looking forward to the continuation of the story and hopefully Izzy and Tadashi can often have their happy moments.
