The Ferrari 250 GTO in the movie is not one of the genuine 36 250 GTO's. Instead it is a replica, based on a Ferrari 250 GTE, chassis number 4861GT, owned by a French collector. This is unsurprising as a real car of such used in the film would be valued at several millions: the current record for world's most expensive car was set a year after the films release (2018: a 1963 250 GTO (chassis 4153GT) sold in a private sale for $70 million; and another in auction (GTO 3413GT) at some $48,000,000): prior to the film being made, a bid of $34,000,000 secured one in 2014.
The Dodge 6 in Morier's collection is authentic and belonged to Al Capone.
The licence plate on the Bugatti is the same plate number as Bullitt 's Mustang.
There are several nods to Steve McQueen throughout the film, ranging from the watch Scott Eastwood's character wears, to certain imagery in the graffiti on the street.
Matthew Goode and Alex Pettyfer were originally cast but they were replaced with Karl Urban and Ben Barnes. Barnes also dropped out and was replaced by Sam Claflin. Later, both Urban and Claflin dropped out and were replaced by Scott Eastwood and Freddie Thorp.
