J.K. Simmons, Sienna Miller and Taylor Kitsch have joined Chadwick Boseman’s action-thriller “17 Bridges” for STXfilms.
The mini-major announced in July that “Black Panther” star Boseman would produce and star in “17 Bridges.” Brian Kirk, whose credits include “Luther” and “Game of Thrones,” is directing from a script by Adam Mervis (“The Philly Kid”).
Boseman will portray a disgraced NYPD detective who, after being thrust into a citywide manhunt for a cop killer, is given a shot at redemption. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 17 bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.

The Philly Kid
Stars: Wes Chatham, Devon Sawa, Sarah Butler, Neal McDonough, Michael Jai White | Written by Adam Mervis | Directed by Jason Connery
Upon seeing the title of this movie, I thought it was just going to be some lame Rocky knockoff. (A Rockoff?) Pleasantly enough, however, The Philly Kid stands its ground as a movie all its own, albeit one that has plenty of The Italian Stallion and The Fighter in ts DNA.
The story’s pretty simple, and told simply: an Mma fighter lands himself in jail on a manslaughter charge after accidentally killing a mugger. Upon his parole, he’s forced to take part in cage fighting matches to make ends meet and save his friend from getting macked by loan sharks. It goes right until it goes wrong, there’s a girl, there’s some bloody fight scenes and, of course, a good couple of training montage.

Devon Sawa has been elevated to a series regular on The CW’s Nikita. Sawa (Final Destination, Slackers and Idle Hands) had been recurring as Owen Elliot, a former Division “cleaner” on the show which is headed into its third season. In a similar fashion to Nikita (Maggie Q), Owen became attached and eventually fell in love with a civilian, Emily (Bianca Lawson) who was killed. Owen also killed Nikita’s fiancé, Daniel Monroe (Sebastien Roberts). Sawa’s casting follows recent feature roles in The Philly Kid with Wes Chatham and Neal McDonough and 388 Arletta Avenue opposite Nick Stahl. Sawa is repped by Gersh and Klwgn Entertainment.

Dillon (Wes Chatham) has just been paroled after a 10-year stretch for accidentally killing someone during an altercation outside a shop. Although Dillon wants to keep his nose clean, his friend Jake (Devon Sawa) has got himself well over his head in gambling debts and local crooks want their money or his head. It turns out Dillon was a champion wrestler at college and so under the tutelage of former cage-fighting maestro La Jim, he steps into the ring to save his friend’s life and maybe earn himself a fresh start into the bargain.
