- Stan is shocked when he finds that someone has left Rosie's backpack on his doorstep. He contacts Holder who takes possession of it and hesitantly agrees to provide some police protection. Oakes is quite specific about what he wants Holder to do with the backpack. Holder plans a little subterfuge of his own. Richmond awakens from his coma and learns that he is paralyzed from the waist down. Linden gets some key information from Gwen who also gives her a key to Richmond's apartment. There she finds information that begins to explain just what he was doing the night Rosie was killed. Holder is desperate to speak to Linden but she will have nothing to do with him. A frustrated Stan turns to Janek to get satisfaction.—garykmcd
- Late at night in the Larsen home, one of the boys hears something and Stan goes outside with a bat to investigate, and finds a backpack. It looks to be Rosie's, and is covered with blood.
Holder comes to look at the backpack. Stan confirms the backpack and contents are Rosie's. There is a camera inside that he thinks may have belonged to the school. Stan seems to be aware Richmond was probably not the killer. Stan also wants some protection. He asks about Belko and gets no response.
Linden drops by to see Gwen. She tells him about the issues with the evidence that pointed to Richmond. She said that when he returned in the morning of her October 5th sleep-over he was soaking wet. She didn't ask where he'd been, but he removed his clothes and they made love. She felt he was "more present" during the encounter. She thought he smelled like the ocean. Gwen gives Linden a key to Richmond's apartment.
Oakes gives Holder specific instructions on who he is to give the backpack to in the evidence lab. Holder finds this weird.
Richmond wakes up for the first time. When the doctor leaves the room, Jamie is very concerned about who will tell Richmond about his paralysis. Jamie still can't get in touch with Richmond's sister.
Holder gives the guy in evidence a backpack that does not appear to be Rosie's.
In Richmond's apartment she finds a picture of him and his late wife in front of some water with a bridge in the background. The back says the photo was taken in Tacoma and gives a date: October 5, 2005.
Stan tells Terry about Belko. They agree to keep the news from the boys and talk about making sure he's careful since he's on parole and needs to be there for his kids.
Richmond begins to ask Jamie some questions about his legs. Jamie panics and leaves. When a nurse tells him the doctor is in surgery, Jamie leaves the hospital.
In Tacoma a woman tells Linden there is a saltwater inlet. She mentions Richmond being there with his wife. Linden comes across a crab fisherman working near the bridge where the photo was taken.
Terry moves into the Larsens. Stan is on the 'phone with the police, upset that there has been no protection detailed to his home.
Oakes tells Holder the backpack turned up some prints, mostly Rosie's. He's surprised that Oakes doesn't want to look into it any further. Holder still has Rosie's actual backpack in his trunk.
Linden calls DA Nielsen, leaving a message that she has news about Richmond.
Jamie works out at the gym. He ignores a call from Richmond's doctor. Abani is also exercising in the gym. In the locker room Atani offers Jamie a handshake. He punches Atani in the face instead and they get into it before Abani is pulled off.
Linden goes to see Richmond in his hospital room. He orders her out, but she tells him that she knows where he was the night of Rosie's murder. It turns out that he went to site of his engagement to his wife and tried to kill himself by jumping off the bridge. The fisherman told her that he saved Richmond. Richmond talks about what a suicide attempt can do to a campaign and warns her against letting the information go public.
Linden corners Nielsen in the parking lot, telling him the photo was faked and there is a witness who places Richmond in Tacoma that night. Nielsen isn't ready to drop the charges without talking to the witness and looking into the photo. She agrees to keep things under wraps for a few days.
Adams yells at Abani for getting in a fight at the City Hall gym.
Stan overhears his boys talking about their father not being able to protect them, since the killer was right outside their house. He goes to the station and confront Holder about why he didn't provide the police protection. Holder doesn't give him any good answers.
Holder meets with Sloane under a bridge and tells him about his bag swap and Oakes lying to him about the test results. When Holder suggest going to Internal Affairs about Oakes, Sloane tells him the only reason he got his job is because he's a dirty cop. He also reminds him the faked photo is connected to his partner Linden, in case he wants to go public.
Following the announcemnt that charges against Richmond have been dropped, Linden meets her new Lieutenant, Carlson. He says Oakes has been forced into early retirement and given a slap on the wrist. He isn't happy with her work, but based on the recommendation of Nielsen is going to keep her on the case. She requests to work the murder alone, but he refuses, telling her she'll still work with Holder.
Jamie returns to Richmond's hospital room. He's been told about his legs. Jamie tells him the charges against him have been dropped. "My lucky day," Richmond responds.
One of the boys goes outside to get Terry's cigarettes. A man starts to speak with him just as Stan gets home. It turns out to be a reporter, who tells Stan about the charges against Richmond being dropped.
Linden and Jack unpack in a hotel room. She sees the photos of the tattooed arm. Holder begins pounding on the door, saying he needs to talk to her. She pulls her gun, engages the chainlock and says nothing. Holder eventually leaves.
We see Stan go to see Janek. He tells him Rosie's murderer is still on the loose and he wants Janek to find the person and kill him.
